[Video] Goin’ Old School: Cabaret Voltaire and Afrika Bambaataa & Soul Sonic Force

Goin’ Old School isn’t a trip down music memory lane, it’s a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia:

Two of our favourite tracks this week, starting with the mighty Cabaret Voltaire and 1983’s Just Fascination.

And Renegades Of Funk!, also from 1983, one of Afrika Bambaataa & Soul Sonic Force best.

[MP3] Touch Tone reMixes Goldroom

Here’s the recent NightWaves single reMixed by Short Circuit. Wait. Sorry. Flashback. What I meant to say is here’s the recent Goldroom single reMixes by Touch Tone. I do love it when the old Binary crew get together for tracks, makes me feel nostalgic before I’ve even pressed play, and I can always trust that pressing play will live up to my expectations.

No fear here, Touch Tone crafts the prefect breezy vibe for the track. Slightly Tropical, the track flows like water, the dreamy vocals curling in and out of Touch Tone’s laid-back Disco like smoke. Built on a French-Disco-esque piano riff, the reMix takes it time to deliver soul shaking bass and a rolling beat over it’s relaxed five minute run. This is cruising music, a feel good tune that sweeps all your worries away.

[MP3] Lancelot’s ‘Higher Ground’

Lancelot

Fresh Australian producer Lancelot, who released the awesome We Can Dance last year on Binary, has just unexpectedly made his return with this lush, Housy Disco tune. The free download comes after  quite a period of relative quiet front he man, but that’s fine, we here are big believers in quality over quantity and think the current culture of having to release all the time is harmful for fans and producers alike. right here Lancelot proves why it’s best to take your time and get it right, he definitely brings the quality.

Higher Ground mixes up deep House vibes with Tropical Disco feel, which makes for a euphoric, feel-good, but irresistibly dancey tune. Hypnotic, but funky the track wraps you in it’s arms and doesn’t let go until the dance is over. this is truly one to get lost in on the dancefloor. We’re hoping that 2013 is a year we will hear a lot more from Lancelot.

[Video] Tesla Boy’s ‘Another Light’

Here’s a cool video that Russian Dreamwave/ElectroPop champions Tesla Boy have put together for the B-side of their recent Split single, Another Light.

It’s 80s as hell, and so shiny that it hurts to watch, like staring at the sun.

[Audio] Jupiter reMix Yan Wagner

Yan Wagner

French producer Yan Wagner’s recent Forty Eight Hours album didn’t leave out MP3 player for very long in the latter half of 2012. A Housey, ElectroPop opus that deserved wider attention. Yesterday the single Changed from the album was released, and alongside reMixes from Arnaud Rebotini, The Hacker and Tristesse Contemporaine sits this version from one of our favourite ElectroPop duos, Jupiter.

Jupiter get busy with their playful DiscoPop style all over the track. Their now trademark bouncy bass is at the fore of the track, providing a rock solid, funky, bedrock for layers of spikey tones and cosmic synths to dance around the tracks four and a half minutes. A stark contrast to Wagner’s deadpan, Factory-esque style, this meeting of styles works infinitely better than it should, more power to Jupiter for pulling it off. By the time the reedy synth solo kicks in you can;t help but be totally hooked.

[Video] TNUC takes on Steve Moore

there’s a brand new video from Uncle TNUC! The originator of the edited up Dreamwave video is back, and this time he;s tackling Steve Moore’s beautiful Dawn Of Primordial Life.

TNUC goes with the flow on this one. Mixing up an 80s caveman (not sure of source) and some plains nature, TNUC tells a pretty compelling narrative.

[Audio] Disclosure & AlunaGeorge

Disclosure & AlunaGeorge

This is White Noise. It’s a collaboration between awesome House duo Disclosure and even awesomer Electro R&B duo AlunaGeorge. It reader it head last night. It broke the internet.

And you can see why, the amount of talent featured in this track isn’t wasted. Disclosure create the perfect, otherworldly, soundtrack. Part Acid House, part Bleep House, all warehouse, White Noise is a nostalgic trip for anyone who was raving in 1990, but the addition of Aluna’s vocals give the whole affair a soulful Pop twist. No-one really thought of ElectroPop Bleep House back in 1990, maybe if they had the scene would have lasted for longer than a year. this is the prefect melding of deep Dance Music vibes and Pop sheen. amazing. (P.S. I refuse to call Bleep House ‘Yorkshire Bleep & Bass’, we called it Bleep House at the time, and I’m sticking with that!)

[MP3] Monarchy & Dita Von Teese reMixed by Mike Luck

monarchy-dita-von-tease_thumb

Now enigmatic ElectroPop duo Monarchy’s amazing, Dita Von Teese featuring, comeback single Disintegration is finally out we can have a listen to the final reMix from the package. Alongside the awesome MiGHty mOUse rendition of the song comes this version from Dutch producer Mike Luck, and it’s a free download too.

It’s got a very 2007 Van She Tech remix feel to it, and that’s no bad thing. That driving, powerful arpeggiated bassline and pounding drums give it that vibe, a sound that actually works really well with Monarchy and Dita Von Teese’s bombastic vocals. Luck’s take on Disintegration injects it with an energetic urgency, it’s one of those tracks that would kick things up a gear on the dancefloor when it drops. A big, almost aggressive track, it makes a nice contrast to MiGHty mOUse’s groovier reMix. The combination of gritty snyths and dramatic synths is always a winner.

Monarchy (Feat. Dita Von Teese) – Disintegration (Mike Luck reMix)

Monarchy & Dita Von Teese’s Disintegration is released 15th January with reMixes from MiGHty mOUse and Mike Luck.

[Audio] Collins’ début album

Collins

Let’s talk about Collins. This guy first came to out attention back in September 20122 with his entry into Feat Of Tigers’ the Adventured Of Pippi Longstrump reMix competition. We highlighted his contribution as one of our favourites and since then have been following this Brazilian based Irish producer as he dropped a succession of class singles over the past two years. Well, that time has come, as it does in every musician’s career when they just have to bite the bullet and release an album. A declaration of intent, a manifesto. Collins’ Animal Magnetism lays down the law on why he’s different from the pack, and why is forward thinking attitude makes him one to watch.

Animal Magnetism opens with the dreamlike Heartbreaker, and there’s immediately something different goin on here. Whilst the track shares much of it’s DNA with Kavinsky’s Nightcall, it also let’s you know that the preceding album isn’t going to be your standard SynthWave. Listless, ominous vocoded vocals wash over the entire track and it sets a mood of eerie beauty that  the rest of the release follows through with. Serenade continues in the same mysterious vein, albeit it with an EBM bassline and hushed female vocals the drag the track into 90s Elektro Industrial realms, a realm that isn’t entirely untouched by the tracks predecessor, The Sacred with it’s imposing robo vox. Fallen is a weird best, fifty percent laid back beach Disco, fifty percent a moody cover of Julee Cruise and Angelo Badalamenti’s Falling, it’s a take on an oft covered track that we hadn’t heard before. The album continues in this enigmatic style, punctuated by the likes of Italo monster If Looks Could Kill and the slightly ChipTune Coping Mechanism. Animal Magnetism is an impressive début collection, showing both a variety of moods from Collins, but also his ability to capture the darker side of life in rich, evocative music.

Polish ElectroPoppers Kamp!’s recent album, on their own Brennnessel label contained many highlights, and Melt was one of the biggest, now it’s a soon-to-be-single…with a slick video.

Directed by Tomasz Goldbaum-Wlazinski the clip gives synchronized swimming a point, and it;s beautifully shot.
