Collins

collins

We featured Collins’ contribution Fear Of Tigers’ ‘Pippi Longstrump’ reMix competition a while back as one of our picks of entries, his melodic take on retro Electro immediately caught out ear.

Now the Irish resident of Brazil has sent on over his most recent track. ‘Loverboy’ kicks off with a slick ‘80’s bassline and classic SynthPop melody before sliding into a particularly vintage sounding SynthWave tune. It’s at this point that the track takes you completely by surprise by morphine into a vocoded Electro Boogie jam. ‘Loverboy’ is a robotic love song for Breakers and Italo heads alike and marks Collins as one to keep an eye on.

Check out his reMix of Miss Kittin’s classic ‘Rippin Kittin’ too, full of bouncy retro basslines and wicked solos.

Meridians’ new single

Meridians

Out this week is the brand new single from Meridians. A French duo who are putting their slightly quirky French Touch stamp on ElectroPop.

‘Desert Of Love’ is a sprawling, spacious, epic of a song that utilises so many different elements you wonder how they got it to sound so cohesive. But they did. Morphing effortlessly from Synthwave to Indie-Electro to Nu-Disco and back the track is full of unexpected instrumentation, but amongst all the eclecticness there’s a solid, summery, DiscoPop groove and a catchy tune. the flip side is ‘Cobra’, which is more of a full-on SynthWave/Electro-House soundclash that is both arresting and strangely emotive.

New track from Flashlights

FLASHLIGHTS

Flashlights, who released the awesome ‘Hidden Behind Trees’ EP on Binary earlier this year, have dropped a brand new track.

Taken from the GoldRush Festival artist’s compilation album, their follow up to the EP’s ‘New Hampshire’, ‘New Hampshire Part II’ is more traditional ElectroPop, upbeat and catchy, compared the the atmospheric Chillwave of the original. The track still retains a distant mysteriousness though, but contrasts that with bouncy synths and uplifting retro chords. Lush and swirling ElectroPop at it’s finest, ‘New Hampshire Part II’ is a track that slides into your brain and starts soundtracking your life.

SaiR reMixes Cavaliers Of Fun

cavaliers-of-fun1

Our favourite Portuguese producer SaiR has taken on the lead track from Cavaliers Of Fun recent ‘Sharing Space Secrets’ EP, ‘Passengers’, for his latest mix.

Keeping it smooth with a night time vibe, SaiR works Ricco’s vocals into a laid back slice of synthesizer Funk featuring the very best in head nodding basslines and quirky little lead riffs.  Ruben from SaiR certainly knows how to twist a synth line to his funky will and makes the track so slick and chilled that you can just let is wash over you like a wave of groove.

Pat Lok’ ‘No Shame’

pat lok

On The Fruit Records’ second big release of the week comes courtesy of the slick synthetic Disco of Pat Lok.

The Vancouver DJ/Producers is dropping this single, ‘No Shame’, backed with ‘Yes Game’ and a stellar array of reMixes. ‘No Shame’ is an Italo basslined five minutes of some of the best, and most original, Nu-Disco we’ve heard in a while. Pat definitely brings something new to the Nu-Disco game as well as doing what everyone should do when they’ve write an awesome peice of funky electronic music…cover the thing in vocoded vocals. ‘No Shame’ is immense. The flip side, ‘Yes Game’ take a smoother route to the dancefloor with chilled synths and piano in the mix. Goldroom provides one of the mixes of ‘No Shame’. The ‘G’ word is already, after half a year, a stamp of quality, slightly Yachty, Nu-Disco beach tunes but this time Josh goes all out and contributes some vocals to the track which immediately gives the track something special, making it really cohesive. Bit Funk’s take on ‘Yes Game’ is funked-out  bliss (or should that be blissed-out funk?) with heavy synth bass and slap bass intertwining to crate a low-down dirty groove and some dark dancefloor moments.

AXXE’s ‘Sweet Stuff’

axxe

Jet setting DiscoPop act AXXE’s ‘Sweet Stuff’ has been knocking around for a while now, as has some of the reMixes, so On The Fruit Records (in their firsts of two big releases this week) have made the smart decision to package them all up in one place, alongside some corking new versions. Won’t you join me for a peek inside?

The original version of the tracks is pure Dance-Pop excellence, with just the right balance between retro sounds and modern dancefloors. Doug’s slick beats and ear for hooks and Stina husky, powerful vocals work together perfectly for some big, but edge, ElectroPop fun. It’s hard to even start on the reMixes with out getting Ride The Universe’s version out the way, we’ve mentioned it before, suffice to say the combination of musicianship, studio skill skill and DJ’s ear amongst the four Riders makes up the perfect production team. If you were in the HR department of a Dreamwave/Nu-Disco corporation then these four skill sets would be the one your would be trying to fill. Dreamtrak is a man with his finger in a lot of ElectroPop pies right now, and his reMix here displays why, with an almost New Order-esque slice of retro SynthPop sprinkled with a hint of Disco. Neon Workout head straight for the dancefloor with their take on the track with a bit of Italo, a bit of EBM and a bit of Disco all finding their way into this rapid-fire mix.

Cinnamon Chasers reMixed

Cinnamon Chasers

We’re really not used to Cinnamon Chasers sounding as raw as they do on this reMix of ‘Cuts Like Fire’ by Vasili Gavre.

The original, taken from CC’s second full length SynthWave/ElectroPop masterpiece ‘Science’ , was already one of the more live sounding tracks on the album but retained that Cinnamon Casers smoothness, Gavre takes that liveness and runs with it crafting an energetic, rough-as-you-like- slice of ElectroPop full of Rock drums and chainsaw synths. Kinda’ reminds me a bit of the tracks Guns ‘N’ Bombs were doing a few years ago.

Tubetops

tubetops

Brooklyn based four peice  Tubetops are funky, catchy, nerdy, DIY and quite handy with a synth.

They’re gearing up to release their début EP in December, seven tracks of varied and eclectic Indie-Electro that flows from jangly Indie to Trip-Hop to LA Funk. The self-titled EP is a hard record to pin down, some of the tracks are so stylistically different from one another, yet Tubetops have a certain warmth, and a certain sound, that seems to tie it all together. Despite the different moods the is a a strong vein of Funk shooting through the collection, tracks like ‘Aquamarine’ and ‘Here With You’ are approaching that particular LA Nu-Funk inspired brand of Dreamwave, whilst elsewhere their New York Indie roots shine though in summery IndiePop stormers.
