[Audio] Grum reMixes Sigma’s ‘Nobody To Love’

Sigma

If you want a way to start you week big, then look no further than the latest reMix from the man like Grum. Taking on Drum ‘N’ Bass superstars Sigma’s latest single, Nobody To Love, Grum engages the duo in a competition to see who can make the most massive sounds, and who can drive the energy levels though the roof. Game on!

With his new album’s release finally on the horizon, Grum gets the anticipation going with this onslaught of huge synths and irresistible beats. Seriously blurring the boundaries between big room House and Euphoric Trance, Grum just delivers tracks to give you chills. Swelling pads, rapid twisting leads, growling basslines, this one has it all. And with that soaring vocal on top it’s a guaranteed floorfiller. If anyone is going to bring back hands-in-the-air Trance, it’s Grum, but this time with a retro flair.

[Audio] Touch Tone reMixes Queen & David Bowie’s ‘Under Pressure’

Queen & David Bowie

Frankly we’re surprised no-one has tackled this earlier. In retrospect this track is ripe for a Topical makeover, but it took Dreamwave OG Touch Tone to step up to the plate. Queen & David Bowie’s  Under Pressure, with it’s classic bassline and freeform warbling has already got the groove, all it needs are some big ol’ synths. Enter Mr. Verner.

Mostly the classic bassline is ditched. A brave move, but Touch Tone cares not for you nostalgic attachments, he want’s to build a carefree summering Disco vibe out of Bowie and Mercury mumbling and nothing is going to stand in his way. Piano House meets Island purcussion with rumbling bass and a huge build. This is what the summer’s all about.

[Download] The 2 Bears’ ‘You’re Nasty’

The 2 Bears

Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard and Raf Rundell A. K. A. The 2 Bears are about to embark on a twelve week residency at XOYO, and to kick things off they are giving away a brand new track, for free. You’re Nasty celebrates the start of a storming series of line-ups that see The 2 Bears joined by the likes of Henrik Schwarz, Four Tet, Toddla T, Andrew Weatherall and .Emperor Machine. Soak up the vibes.

Combining a typical The 2 Bears undulating groove with some loose Disco stylings, You’re Nasty rolls along on an utterly infectious, moaning bassline. It’s a solid backing, that leaves tons of room for various elements, from the Jazzy electric piano hook to the warbling synth solo, to play out in whatever way they see fit. A deep, late night, track that’s part House monster, part live synthesizer jam.

[Download] The Penelopes reMix The Cure’s ‘Just Like Heaven’

The Cure

How would you go about taking a beloved late-80s IndiePop classic and serving it up to the desert island Disco masses? Well, just ask London based French ElectroPop duo The Penelopes; ‘cos they’ve turned in this equatorial Pop masterpiece  reMix of The Cure’s Just Like Heaven.

Too cheery to ever really have been Goth, The Cure sound the most upbeat they’ve ever been as The Penelopes wash the track in the most Tropical of vibes. Steely purcussion, pulsing synth basses and a hand-clapping Disco beat all work surprisingly well with Robert Smith’s vocal. The Penelopes produce what might be their densest track to date, loading the four and a half minutes with layers of pads and melodies, all coming together for an uplifting and epic experience.

[Audio] Blende’s ‘Paramount’

Blende

London based Swede Blende is at it again. Having pinched the top spot of our favourite tracks of 2013 with his storming single Rikki, Johan is releasing a brand new EP later this month vie Eskimo Recordings. Titled Paramount, the EP boasts three new original tracks, each packed with uplifting and funky vibes. Have a listen to a couple of them below.

The EP’s title track nicely blends (pun intended) a Disco funk with some slick SynthWave. With, what feels like, a decidedly British Pop slant, this five minutes of synthesiser bliss rolls with a mid-80s flavour pushing synth solos and popping electro toms to the forefront and then couples that with a late 70s piano Disco groove. It’s heady combination that is sure to be stuck on repeat.  Elsewhere on the EP you’ll find Plush, which sees Blende going even further into cinematic 80s synth territory. Heavy synth bass and plucky synthesized guitars conjure the best in 80s straight-to-video Sci-Fi to mind. Sweeping keys pick up the track’s mood while sparkling melodies dance around the dystopian soundtrack. Heavy, but optimistic stuff. Another killer release from Blende.

[Audio] Jensen Sportag’s ‘One Lane Lovers’

sportag_thumb

There’s a new single from Nashville not-really-Chillwave-anymore-but-there’s-no-smoke-without-fire funketeers Jensen Sportag. Which is pretty soon after their début album, Stealth Of Days, which dropped late last year. Stealth Of Days was easily one of the albums of 2013. The new single, released on Cascine of course, is titles One Lane Lovers, and sees the Sportags delve even deeper into the Funk.

Kicking off like a mid-80s post-B-boy slice of electronic Soul Pop, One Lane Lovers soon settles into the smoothest of grooves. So smooth in fact; coupled with the waves of nostalgia the permeate every second of the awesome One Lane Lovers, that you might just sink into your chair permanently. Although, being stuck there listening to One Lane Lovers on repeat wouldn’t be such a bad thing. How these guys make choppy, cut-up, R&B sounds sound so silky is beyond us. Probably just Sportag magic.

[Audio] Dubka’s ‘Deathwish’ & ‘Eumenides’

Dubka

We got our first taste of Martin Dubka’s début solo single last week with the video for Deathwish. The single has been pretty eagerly awaited round these parts, the man’s production flair for the likes of Tyson, Tesla Boy and Ali Love, alongside a swathe of reMixes and collaborations have all made it right to the top of our playlists. Also, he’s the subject of the the best Future Music In The Studio With… ever (so nice to hear someone actually talking about composition, as opposed to the latest hot DJ chatting about Ableton plug-ins and then looking nervous when someone asks what Key the track is in)

Both Deathwish and it’s B-side, Eumenides, are deeper than deep hypnotic House jams. The former greets you from the offset with a mantra-of-a-bassline and a stripped back Deep House flavour. The vocal chant echoes round a track that perfectly captures the warehouse vibe. Strobe lights and peeps lost in the music. The enigmatic dance vibe is carried over int o the B-side. Eumenides works an enthralling bassline of it’s own, digging deep into robotic grooves with punchy synths that are tempered with a starlight melody. These two from Dubka are aimed squarely at late night dancefloors.
