[MP3] Moustache Machine reMixes Madonna

MADONNA, 1984: This exclusive photo-session with Madonna was made exactly 20 years ago in a photo-studio in Amsterdam. Her record company in Holland telephoned Dutch photographer Kees Tabak and asked him if he would like to photograph a new, totally-unknown singer called Madonna. Luckily he said yes. She brought along two dancers with her. The male dancer is her brother. Shortly after this session Madonna became a world-known superstar. ** USA & UK ONLY ** HIGHER RATES APPLY ** © Kees Tabak / Sunshine / Retna UK

With Classixx’s awesome reMix of Madonna’s Lucky Star nearly two years old now, it’s the perfect time for some fresh blood on the Lucky Star scene. It’s the prefect track for a Disco update, and stepping up for the challenge is French producer Moustache Machine.

The tracks got all the elements for a massive Italo-Disco workout, pumping synth bass, bright keys, evil little Disco licks and Madge’s big vocal. Moustache Machine handles these elements with ease, reworking them into his own version of dancefloor gold. With just the right amount of added driving synth goodness, and the occasional B-Boy breakdown, this is easily one of the best reMixes of this track we’ve heard.

[MP3] Alison Valentine’s ‘Warm Winter’s Day’

Alison Valentine

You may remember New York songstress Alison Valentine from her track Peanut Butter, and Moon Boots stunning reMix of it. She’s back this month with a new single, Warm Winter’s Day, and this looks like the one to gain the talented singer the wider attention she deserves.

Warm Winter’s Day, is a perfect example of inviting R&B flavoured ElectroPop. Imbued with that Chillwavey air so often found in New York’s ElectroPop output, reverby beats and toy town synths dance playfully about the track while Alison provides an intimate, personal performance. This would have made an awesome X-Mas single, but a month later it still delivers a warming electronic cheer.

[MP3] Kisses reMix Haim

Haim

Hot on the heels of their new single and new album announcement, LA ElectroPop duo Kisses, a name soon to be on everybody’s lips, have dropped this reMix of the name that is currently on everybody’s lips, Indie-Girl trio Haim and their track Send Me Down.

Kisses turn the track into an indescribably warm six minutes of lush DiscoPop. With a nod to the poolside and hot LA nights, Kisses manage to keep the quirky Indie feel to the tune whist adding heaps of sexy summer groove. With those smokey vocals to work with, Kisses deliver a suitably odd-ball version of Disco, with enough eccentricities to stay true to the original, but enough of a dancefloor vibe to keep crowds moving.

[Audio] FM Attack and Sferro reMix Frankfurt Express

Frankfurt Express

Frankfurt Express are a French retro ElectroPop duo, featuring singer Yota, a name you might recognise from gracing from a handful of awesome Nu-Disco records, who are about to release their new single. the track, Frankfurt Express is a lush, warm slice of quirky, Kraftwerk flavoured, SynthPop. the singe boasts reMixes from the mighty Lifelike (who also co-produced the single), and these two rad cuts from SynthWavers FM Attack and Sferro.

FM Attack’s take on Wake Up, is a surprisingly gothic twist on Italo influenced SynthWave, with vocal samples morphed into a haunting choir and reverb drenched guitar licks amidst the dance beats and squelchy bassline. this all works brilliantly with the vocal, creating a weird, but excellent, dark DiscoPop hybrid. Girlfriend Records head honcho Sferro turns in a woozy DreamPop version of the track. Loaded with dreamlike synths phasing in and out of the track and magical melodies. With razor sharp synth cutting through the track, Sferro’s mix grabs your attention whilst lulling you into a hypnotic state. An amazing single package from the guys.

[Audio] Logan Sky’s new album

Logan Sky

London based SynthWave artist Logan Sky is gearing up for the release of his brand new album, Face The Flames. Previously part of ElectroPop duo Saar & Sky, one of our favourite acts of the past few years, Logan has been steadily carving out a name for himself as a solo artist producing some of the most interesting Italo influenced sounds around.

Right now we can have a listen to the first track from the album to be revealed, Blonde Cobra. It’s a rich slice of futuristic Italo. An edgy BladeRunner mood is countered with bright, shining melodies as an ominous arpeggiated bassline powers the track onward amidst waves of Sci-Fi synths. Haunting and atmospheric whist still being a solid Italo floorfiller, Blonde Cobra has us eager to hear more from the soon-to-be released new record.

[Audio] Jowie Schulner’s new track

Jowie Schulner

This is the new SynthWave epic from Boombar Music head honcho Jowie Schulner. Prepare for some soaring synth action and night driving beats. If you’re looking for some massive resonant Electro, you’ve come to the right place.

Bad Rain is all about the big leads. Bit crushed with an almost ChipTune feel (like old Mille tracks), Bad Rain lets those synth solos fly. Set to a backing of hard hitting Italo beats and a driving arpeggiated bassline, those lead lines take on a life of their own, reaching stratospheric heights are the build and build.

[Audio] Miles Prower’s ‘San Francisco Nights’

Miles Prower

San Francisco Nights is the new tune from Bristol based SynthWave act Miles Prower. Despite the name, the track feels like a decidedly British take on SynthWave, owing as much to 80s SynthPop and kid’s TV shows as it does to Jan Hammer’s Miami vice soundtrack.

Driven by an arpeggiated bassline, San Francisco Nights delivers a cornucopia of bright snyths and lush, ringing, melodies. At times sounding like the theme to a Saturday tea-time Sci-Fi show, this is a tune that revels in multiple, intertwining delayed leads and a nostalgic simple feel. With some wonderful chord progressions, San Francisco Nights is a classy piece of relaxing Italo.

[Audio] Chvrches’ ‘Recover’

Chvrches

Every new release from Chvrches makes us a little nervous. there is so much hype surrounding this Glaswegian ElectroPop trio that we get concerned they won’t be able to live up to expectations. For now, at least, dipping into their third single, Recover, puts to rest any fears and they deliver another stunning slice of moody ElectroPop.

Awash with Numandoid synths, Recover does that thing all the best 80s SynthPop tunes do. Balancing a big, seemingly upbeat, optimistic tune with a melancholy running through it like a tear. Singer Lauren’s frail yet impassioned performance is almost heartbreaking and needs, to a certain extent, to be countered with all the shimmering synth work. We think we if heard the acapella we might cry. This prefect blend of optimism and pain is evident in, literally, every classic SynthPop act there is and Chvrches are on a fast track to joining some of them, we just hope all the hype doesn’t ruin it all.

♫ Chvrches – Recover

Chvrches’ new single is released 25th March with two new tracks, ZVVL and Now Is Not The Time, and reMixes from Curxes and Cid Rim.
