Arnaud Rebotini reMixes Rafale

Rafale

Blackstrobe main man Arnaud Rebotini is one of our favourite producers, there’s no-one quite like him for  teasing hard Disco out of vintage analog synths. In his latest reMix, of Rafale’s ‘Beyond Bad’, he takes the ’hard’ one step further with a tune that is borderline EBM.

Taken from Rafale’s free ‘Obsessions reMixes’ collection, this mix sees Arnaud channelling old school Nitzer Ebb with the dirty, militaristic, bassline, coarse synths and industrial percussion. Last year’s original ‘Obsessions’ album was produced by Robitini himself and it feels like here, he allowed himself to play around more and get a bit more aggressive. Now if only modern EBM sounded like this…

Keenhouse’s new EP

keenhouse

In March, one of out favourite musicians (note, I said musician, not producer!) Keenhouse is back with a new EP, ‘Better Days’.

The new record is four tracks of Keenhouse’s freeform Disco that, once again, perfectly display Ken’s exceptional talent both as in instrumentalist and an arranger. The last few years have seen Keenhouse move more and more into an almost Jazz take on Nu-Disco and ‘Better Days’ is no exception. It’s a melting pot of ideas, effortlessly shifting from style to style, from riff to riff, everything held in place with a deep disco groove. the second part of ‘Better Days’ is a more raw House track that owes a lot to Chicago House and Beep House of the late ‘80’s/early ‘90’s, it’s got that mixture of robots beats and a raw experimentalism that could have seen it released in the early days of Warp Records.

‘Better Days’ is released 5th March on Beatport and 12th March  worldwide.

Michael Senna & Peter Zohdy

Michael Senna & Peter Zohdy

Michael Senna & Peter Zohdy are a pair of Danish producers who are gearing up for the release of their new single, ‘All In Vain’.

It’s a big room ElectroPop/House track with retro Disco edge. It’s the bassline that does it, the bassline and the icy synth hits, both are pure ‘80’s sounds that have been folded into a peak time House track to give it a New Wavey flavour. Add to that some floaty deadpan vocals and our beloved synth toms and you have this strange mixture of euphoric House and late night analog Disco. the B-Side, ‘Dirty Talk’ continues the vintage sound theme into almost Bleep House territory for a truly retro slice of dance music. The EP also comes with a Techno’d up mix from Blonde:Ish.

Substatic’s ‘Opened Up’

substatic

If you happen to be in London town this Friday I’m sure you will be attending the launch party for our ‘electronic rumors Volume 1’ compilation CD, amongst the acts appearing on the album and playing live that night will be Bristol’s almighty Substatic. The, now, two peice will be showcasing some brand new material and as a little taste they have released their latest tune on their SoundCloud page.

The first thing I noticed about ‘Opened Up’ is how accessible it is, Substatic have always been able to turn a tune, to deliver catchy, memorable songs, but ‘Opened Up’ is a whole new level of 21st century alternative ElectroPop. Keeping one foot in a Dubsteppy, Deep House arena Substatic squarely plant their other boot in radio play’s sandpit and kicks things around. I could easily imagine Annie Mac or Zane Lowe spinning this tune. There’s an electronic Indie vibe going on here, similar to CHEW LiPS, but with more of a heavy bassed dancefloor leaning. Can’t wait to hear what else they have in store for us on Friday!

♫ Substatic – Opened Up

You can catch Substatic live in London this friday celebrating the release of our ‘electronic rumors Volume 1’ compilation. Detailes here.

Lamb reMixed by Figure Of 8

lamb

Figure Of 8 continues his winning streak of reMixes with a new version of Lamb’s track of last year, ‘Butterfly Effect’. The Belfast based producer does something completely different with the track and shows us how a reMix should be done.

If you’re not familiar with Lamb or the original track, Lamb are a left-field, post-Trip-Hop eclectic ElectroPop outfit who’s downtempo beats and atmospheric soundscapes make for excellent chill out listening. ‘Butterfly Effect’ is an almost ethereal slice of Sci-Fi ambiance with icy, distant vocals. Figure Of 8 obviously thought ‘you know what this needs? some retro SynthPop boogie!’, and made it so. The track now resides on dark dancefloors in seedy Soho clubs, driven by a pulsating vintage synth bass and razor sharp lead lines. There’s a few surprising thrown into the mix too, some dubby echo, some great, frantic percussion and the occasional Acid burbling. Figure Of 8 has kept the eclectic feel of a Lamb track, but made it able to rock a dancefloor too.

Lamb – Butterfly Effect (Figure of 8 reMix)

‘Butterfly Effect’ is taken from Lamb’s ‘5’ album. Figure Of 8 drops his début EP on On The Fruit Records 13th February.

Eats Everything reMixes Javeon McCarthy

Javeon McCarthy

You all know how much I love bigging up Bristol talent, so this soundclash is something I have to talk about. Bristol based crooner Javeon McCarthy is dropping a new single through PMR, ‘Lost Time’, on the reMix is fellow Bristolian Eats Everything who gets deep with his warping bass.

The shuffling percussion and body shaking bass is total synthetic, hypnotic, enveloping groove. Deep and Techy, Dubby and totally involving. From the late ‘80’s House style 909 rimshot and snare patterns, to the big filtered synth sounds, Eats Everything’s dark mysterious mix is a surprising, but perfect fit for Javeon McCarthy’s soulful vocals.
