Robyn covers Yelle

Robyn2

‘Ding!’ “Seconds out, Round two!”

Ducking and diving, it’s the mad Swede Robyn with an English take on Yelle’s ‘À Cause Des Garçons’, ‘Because Of Boys’.

Mixing it up ‘Cobrastyle’ Robyn’s tack is actually very cool, however the song itself doesn’t translate as well which is most evident in the chorus. What was once a big focal point to the track becomes almost apologetic in English.

It’s a pity as Robyn brought a brilliant ElectroPop tune to the ring.

Robyn – Because Of Boys (À Cause Des Garçons) (Yelle Cover) (zShare) (MediaFire)

I kinda’ prefer Yelle’s track, but in the end the we, the listeners, are the winners!

Yelle covers Robyn

Yelle

As part of the iTunes Foreign Exchange series France and Sweden are going head-to-head in a clash of the ElectroPop nutcases.

Round One sees Parisian Electro queen Yelle covering Robyn’s ‘Who’s That Girl?’ in her native tongue and she comes out swinging with a brilliant upbeat Club-Pop take on the track that’s bristling with ‘crazy’.

Marina’s not a robot…

MarinaAndtheDiamonds2

Post-Tori quirkpop’s of the moment Marina And The Diamonds are all set to release their ‘The Crown Jewels EP’ soon and the lead track on the EP ‘I Am Not A Robot’ has been given the reMix treatment by The Shoes and Starsmith.

the Shoes turn in a really cool Electro funker which shouldn’t go well with Marina’s vocals…but does, while Starsmith does something a bit more classic ElectroPop, it’s pretty epic with layers of fantastic synth work.

Guess Marina’s not married to Robyn then?

Little Boots album tracks (inc. Phil Oakey!)

LittleBoots6

Pretty exiting stuff, two tracks from Little Boots’ forthcoming album, ‘Hands’, right here, right now!

Remedy is pure Little Boots, dancefloor electronics that are just that little bit more interesting than your average Pop song and a huge chorus, every bit as infectious as her previous tracks.

But the main event here is ‘Symmetry’, her duet with The Human League’s Phil Oakey, just thinking about it gives me goose bumps. So the track’s bouncing along nicely. Again, it’s proper Boots Pop. Some nice filtered bass and Victoria is working it, then ‘bam’, Phil come in and takes the track to another level. As with his recent collaboration with Pet Shop Boys he seems to dominate the track (I don’t mean that in a bad way!). Loving the 80’s spoken bridge!

I can’t wait for the album release (but then, I would love some new The Human League too!).

Miike Snow’s Animal

MiikeSnow

Miike Snow hail from Sweden and the US and produce some really quirky ElectroPop with touches if Indie, funk and even Reggae thrown into the eccentric mix.

They are dropping their début album this week and this track, ‘Animal’, is the lead in single. It’s a tune that just washes over you, it’s chilled, unique and set to be one of the songs of the summer.

reMixes on the single are provided by Treasure Fingers, Punks Jump Up and Crookers amongst others. With this reMix Treasure Fingers brings a little Italo vibe to the track.

New Heartsrevolution video!

With Kitsuné Music’s imminent release of their seventh Kitsuné Maison compilation, ‘The Lucky Ones’, Heartsrevolution have premiered the video for the song they have featured on the album.

Entitled ‘薔薇と彼女の王子’, which translates as ‘The Rose And Her Prince’ the tune is a bit of a departure from the usual happy noise terror we are used to with the Heart’s Challenger lot, it’s more downtempo, more chilled, but I am so in love with this track!

‘薔薇と彼女の王子’ is just one of the fantastic cuts on Kitsuné Maison 7 which is released June 1st.

Valerie And Friends

ValerieAndFirends

Tomorrow sees the release of the incredibly eagerly anticipated first compilation from the Valerie collective.

I can’t stress enough how team Valerie are producing some of the best synthesizer music around today, their particular take on Electro-House comes with a huge helping of retro 80’s cool. With a definite slant toward 80’s soundtracks (particularly of the straight-to-video teen/horror/action variety) you can’t help but imagine all the various acts involved hanging out and watching 80’s pulp movies before heading off to their studios

Featuring retro graphic design work, as usual, by The Zonders, the line up for the album is Minitel Rose, Anoraak, Jupiter, DVAS, College, Keenhouse, Electric Youth, Russ Chimes, Maethelvin, The Outrunners, Futurecop!, Moulinex & Press, Release, SymbolOne, Xinobi, Narctrax, Loose Shus and Steve Moore.

Here are Futurecop! and Russ Chimes’ contributions; both great examples of the Valerie sound and what to expect on this record, soaring leads, disco beats and crazy arpeggios…

Russ Chimes – Daytona (zShare) (MediaFire)
