Nite Jewel’s ‘One Second Of Love’ album

Nite Jewel

Track ten on Nite Jewel’s forthcoming second new album ‘One Second Of Love’ freaked me out! It’s titled ‘Clive’, but that’s my name! For a good few seconds I genuinely thought they we’re somehow doing personalized promos now, I had to check and double check other sites tracklistings. But there is it, track ten on ‘One Second Of Love’ is named after me. It must be, right? Why would you call it that otherwise?

Ramona Gonzalez’s second record is a thing of beauty. From her Nu-Funk influenced basslines to the washes of Chillwavey reverb drenched synths to her quirky, left-field delivery this seems to be a more focused record than her début ‘Good Evening’, more coherent. It’s a dark and moody vision of ‘80’s Synth Funk and R&B fed through a modern LA Funk machine and dunked in the Chillwave river. There a particular production here that makes the lush synths and Ramona’s intimate vocals sound quite sparse and separated, but that’s the Nite Jewel sound, it’s something that is at once far away and right next to you. ‘One Second Of Love’ is a melting pot of ideas that is made one by Nite jewels vision. If you want something chilled, but a bit funky, check it out.

Punks Jump Up’s new EP

Punks Jump Up

At the end of this month London Electro duo Punks Jump Up, riding on the success of ‘Blockhead’ and ‘Chimes Pt. 1’, drop their latest EP for Kitsuné Music.

The ‘Get Down (Special CCCrash Mixxx)’ EP contains six tracks of straight-up dancefloor grooves lead my  by the amazingly catchy title track. This ‘Special CCCrash Mixxx’ is a melting pot of retro dance influences, pouring in bits of Acid House, bits of Disco, bits of Chicago House and a Funk vocal to make a party starter that’s bound to be working it’s magic all summer. The remaining five reMixes have something for everyone. ElectroPop gurus JBAG give the track a sweet ‘80’s sheen with some nostalgic stabs, this is probably the stand out reMix for me. Alex Gopher turns the Acid aspects of the tune up to eleven and drops a slow building burbler with some killer drops. OK, so you know a Fare Soldi is going to be a bit madcap, and the truly deliver here with some funk fuelled bassline chaos. The surprise of the EP, for me, was Zero Cash’s mixture of vintage synth bass and early ‘90’s House that works so well and creates a really rounded mood. Definitely be keeping an ear of Zero Cash in future. Deadstock 33s close the EP with a deep hypnotic dub version with just a hint of cosmic Disco to leave you with. All-in-all the EP is a winner, six varied reMixes with no real duds in there, how often does that happen?

Saint Etienne are back!

saint etienne

SynthPop legends Saint Etienne are back! With their first full length studio album in seven years on the horizon the trio have dropped the first single from the forthcoming release, ‘Tonight’.

Two facts about ‘Tonight’ you’ll probably not be surprised at. 1) It’s produced by Xenomania’s Tim Powell, 2) It’s mixed by Richard X. According to SE’s Bob Stanley the track is “about the anticipation of going to see your favourite group. For some reason, I imagine this show is at the Forum in Kentish Town. The whole album is about the power of pop, how it affects and shapes your life.”, which is kinda’ what we’re all about to. The track is big, slick sounding DiscoPop combined with Saint Etienne’s particularly British take on everyday life. A Welcome return.

Lightwaves & Channel Swimmer reMix Mausi

Mausi

Remember a few weeks ago we posted about the new single from Newcastle IndiePop act Mausi, ‘Sol.’? Well, not the reMixes have hit, and they’re pretty special.

Ex-Yes Giantess main man Jan’s, under his new Lightwaves moniker, turns in an unsurprisingly awesome ElectroPop mix aimed straight at the dancefloor. Loaded with perfect synth melodies playing against a House piano riff and some big room beats, this is the second dancefloor destroying mix Lightwaves has dropped in as many weeks, looks like it’s going to be his year.  UK producer Channel Swimmer takes the tracks in a totally different direction with some smooth Funk influenced Chillwavey, reverb washed, niceness that soon evolves into a laid back summer Indie hit.

New track from Fabian

fabian

Our boy Fabian has dropped a brand new track, and that’s always cause to take notice!

As we all know Mr. Ordorica is a man of many sides, the Montell Jordan sampling ‘Do It’ nicely Electrofies his Nu-Disco side and throws in a infectious. ‘90’s House hook. While not as hard as his noise Electro stuff, ‘Do It’ adds some stomping dancefloor fuel to his smoother synth side amongst some nice nostalgic jacking.

Fabian is also the musical mastermind behind LexiconDon, who feature on electronic rumors Volume 1. Just sayin’.

Miike Snow & Lykke Li

Miike Snow

Do you get the feeling that Miike Snow are pulling a Baby Monster and streaming the whole new album in the weeks running up to it’s release? Three tracks in two weeks?

Anyway, this ones a bit different, ‘Black Tin Box’ features Lykke Li, who you know we love a bit of, and it’s not a upbeat Indie-Electro track. What it is though, is a pretty powerful, brooding slice of dark ElectroPop with hints of The Knife. Although Lykke is painfully underused ‘Black Tin Box’ is a nice example of icy Scandinavian Pop.

Ronika reMixed by Echoes

Ronika

OK, so we don’t normally go in for the whole blog ‘exclusive’ bragging rights thing, we don’t see the point, very little on the internet stays exclusive for more than 30 seconds, and your ‘exclusive’ probably got leaked last week anyway. We always though it was about the music, not the blog. But we are amused by how much exclusivity there is crammed into this one post, so we’re going to mention it. Hypocrites much? What we have here is the première one of our favourite Indie tinged SynthPop acts, Echoes, reMixing our favourite Madonna Of The Midlands™, Ronika, topped of with a exclusive Ronika based display of retro sportswear from our favourite photographer, and snapper to the stars, Katja Ruge. Literally nothing about this post isn’t so fresh it’s still smoking.

Anyhoo, dazzling shininess of this post aside, what Echoes have turned in is a pretty stunning sunrise-beach-party take on Ronika’s ‘Only Only’. Part Balearic, part Progressive House, Echoes strip back the urban dancefloor urgency of the original (and it’s subsequent reMixes) and insured let Ron’s vocals swim about in a sea of chilled good vibes. Echoes have crafted a laid back and emotional slice of summery House with a classy piano line and let Ron’s vocals sit in just the right place in the mix, somewhere just in the distance, so the track washes over you.

Ronika – Only Only (Echoes reMix)

Completely coincidentally, both Ronika and Echoes will be appearing on our electronic rumors volume 1 compilation, released 13th February, and both putting in an appearance at the launch party on the 10th February. Details here.

Ronika’s latest single ‘Only Only’/’In The City’ is out now and comes highly recommended.
