Work Drugs reMixed by Selebrities & Southern Shores

Basic RGB

Cascine, doing it again! This time they present Work Drugs’ Ice Warf’ a song that joins the growing list of songs in the last three years written about places I used to live just around the corner from, in this case the Ice Warf in Camden. Not sure why you’d want to write a song about a Wetherspoon’s, but the track is generally about getting drunk in Camden and mentions a few other places anyway. No Dublin Castle though?

Anyhoo, Cascine have got two of their finest acts on reMix duties. Kicking off with Selebrities who’s lush ‘80’s Pop version is the stand out for me. Their dreamy synths and raw beats capture my interpretation of the song perfectly. Southern Shores go in a slightly more Balearic direction with an ‘90’s House meets Chillwave sound.

New EP from Pinemarten

pinemarten

Hot on the heels of his début album, ‘If You Thought There Was Any Doubt’, Derbyshire based producer Pinemarten has dropped another EP of mellow synth jams,

The ‘Here It Is’ EP contains three tracks of dreamlike electronic soundscapes and distant, hazy vocals. Pinemarten conjures up feelings of sunsets and lazy summer nights as he skilfully layers shimmering synths. Three prefect chilled tunes for the morning after.

The C90s reMix Trujillo (& The Penelopes)

Trujillo

The C90s are knocking quality reMixes out at an alarming rate these days, They’re like a well oiled reMix machine!

Venezuela Chilled House dude Trujillo gets the The C90s sheen this time around as they morph his track ‘Distance’ into a smooth synthetic Disco. Taking the slightly shogazey, slightly Chillwavey sound of the original The C90’s slap just the right amount of vintage synth groove underneath to give the track a kick, but not to kill it’s charm. Their raw Disco is also applied  to Indie-Popsters The Penelopes’ ‘Now Now Now’, with a truck load of Moog Funk.

New track from Flashlights

FLASHLIGHTS

Flashlights, who released the awesome ‘Hidden Behind Trees’ EP on Binary earlier this year, have dropped a brand new track.

Taken from the GoldRush Festival artist’s compilation album, their follow up to the EP’s ‘New Hampshire’, ‘New Hampshire Part II’ is more traditional ElectroPop, upbeat and catchy, compared the the atmospheric Chillwave of the original. The track still retains a distant mysteriousness though, but contrasts that with bouncy synths and uplifting retro chords. Lush and swirling ElectroPop at it’s finest, ‘New Hampshire Part II’ is a track that slides into your brain and starts soundtracking your life.

Chad Valley reMixed by Foals

chad valley

Chad Valley is throwing a couple of parties in London before the end of the year with his Blessing Force colleagues, expect Chillwave, Wonky Pop, eclectic Indie-Electro and a bunch of people not caring much what people think of them. Details here.

As a warm up to the shows, check out this reMix of Chad Valley’s ‘Fast Challenges’, from his ‘Equatorial Ultravox’ EP, by Foals’ Edwin Congreave. Keeping some of the Chillwave vibe Congreave twists the reverb heavy sounds into some kind of weird Experimental Deep House monster

Joshua T

Jushua T

Berlin based Aussie Joshua T’s new track ‘Hart Beating’ seems to draw the line between Chillwave and The Postal Service.

Layered with the kind of buzzing toytown-synth organ sounds so favoured by The Postal Service, ‘Hart Beating’ eschews those glitchy rhythms for the reverb washed ‘80’s-esque backing of Chillwave with roomy claps and distant melodies. Joshua T keeps the vocals simple and emotive, which blends perfectly with the music, giving the whole track a warm, relaxed vibe. ‘Heart Beating’ definitely presents an interesting combination of styles that single out Joshua T as a name to keep an eye on.

Pinemarten

Pinemarten

Sometimes an artist comes along and takes you totally by surprise, blowing you away. Pinemarten is one of those artists.

I’ve spent much of the day listening to his new album ‘If You Thought There Was Any Doubt’. It’s an incredibly impressive début, the whole album is retro leaning, lush, impassioned ElectroPop. A reverb soaked (although not so much it falls into Chillwave territory) synthesizer journey through a life in soft focus with a surprising amount of Funk involved. One minute you’ll be all encompassed by the layers of dreamlike sounds then suddenly Pinemarten will drops some big ‘80’s chords or a wicked Moog Funk lead. The album ties itself together with Pinemarten vocals, binging a very human, intimate and relatable quality to the record that pushes it over the line into the realms of genius.

‘If You Thought There Was Any Doubt’ is released 20th November and comes highly recommended.

Gossip Culture

Cleveland’s finest ‘80’s influenced Indie-ElectroPop export Gossip Culture has dropped a couple of teasers of his forthcoming new EP, out at the end of the month.

The first two tracks on the ‘People Talk ‘EP will be ‘horses Run Wild’ and ‘Young Love’. the EP opener is a strange and compelling beast. an unusual intertwining of reverb heavy Chillwave vocals and very late ‘80’s dance pop, complete with synth horn stabs and shuffling 909 beats. All wrapped up in an Insanely catchy song. ‘Young Love’ which features April Ewing takes the shuffling drums to the extreme, adding some tropical guitar into the mix for a laid back Caribbean ElectroPop jam. Can’t wait to hear the rest of the EP.
