02-box-of-wolves-christa-vi-boy-single-cover

Out today! This very morning! Is the new single from Canadian Chillwave future-star and  Box Of Wolves and the London singer/songwriter who’s name is on everybody’s lips Christa Vi. electronic rumors’ latest release is one we can definitely be very proud of, these guys are insanely talented and exude an effortless cool. Here’s some of the press release, which as we have now established, is fine for me to copy & paste because I wrote the thing in the first place.

Combining Box Of Wolves’ hazy synthesizer DreamPop sound with Christa Vi’s smokey voice, as she delivers an emotional and relatable refrain, was a stroke of genius. Bringing together the worlds of nostalgic analog synth music and thoughtful IndiePop with fantastic results. With a lead track destined for the radio and reMixes that will be packing dancefloors in the coming months, ‘Boy’ is sure to be many music fans’ soundtrack to the summer. Backed with a storming, Funk fuelled, Nu-Disco reMix from Toronto’s Cyclist and an ethereal slow-House workout from Tongan producer Summer Occasion, the ‘Boy’ single offers a catchy soundtrack to any mood.

I’d get used to this one, you’re going to be hearing a lot more of it in the coming months.

[Video] AlunaGeorge’s Attracting Flies’

It’s quite possible that Attracting Flies is the best thing London based EelctroPop/R&B duo AlunaGeorge have released singe Analyser. Catchy and fun, even the beats stick in your mind. It’s about time the duo got a decent, big budget, video. their music seems to call out for lavish and interesting visuals. Well, that’s been delivered with the video for Attracting Flies.

The new clip is directed by Emil Nava, and runs the gauntlet of fairy tales, giving each one a modern, inner-city, spin. For such a frivolous concept, the clip is really nicely, and moodily, shot. See if you can name each one.

Attracting Flies is released 10th March and is taken from AlunaGeorge’s forthcoming début album, titled Body Music. Released on 1st July.

[Audio] Russ Chimes’ ‘Turn Me Out’

Russ Chimes

Out on Deconstruction soon is the new one from Mr. Russ Chimes. A new Chimes record sis, as you’ll know if you’re a long-time reader, is something we get pretty excited about ‘round these parts. I hate to use the phrase ‘flawless career’, but Daytona  and before with stuff on his MySpace, he’s not released a duff track yet. Of course, I’ve just gone and jinxed it now. My bad.

The jinx doesn’t take effect just yet though, as Chimes’ latest tune, Turn Me Out, is a big House monster that, once again, proves why he’s the top of his game. It’s a track that nicely bridges the new Housemeister Russ Chimes with the old Dreamwave guru Russ Chimes, as a big diva vocal hook and warehouse bass play together with sparking arpeggios and atmospheric strings. Complimented with a nice, deep, northern, Synth bass and a hint of Tropical vibes, Turn Me Out has a little something for everyone on the dancefloor. Which is probably why Russ first made it to DJ with. I wonder if Chimes turned his attention to Heave Metal, if he would be better than everyone else at that too?

[Video] Patchy’s ‘Picnic’

Here’s the début video from new London artist Patchy. It’s called Picnic and is a marvellously fun slice of cheeky ElectroPop. It’s got everything that intrigues us about a track, Fizzing Electro beats, synthetic bass, sparkling leads and Patchy’s slightly quirky vocals (and, as you, know we have a long history of loving quirky vocals!).

Check out the track via the video, which is various bits of Undergrounds (although not sure where) and Patchy mucking about in the studio. Which makes for a nice introduction to her and her music.

Check out more from Patchy on SoundCloud.

Picnic is out now, and is taken from Patchy’s début album, Illuminations, released 3rd June on Manual Music.

[Audio] Mirror Kisses’ ‘Runaways’

Mirror Kisses

American ElectroPop duo Mirror Kisses are gearing up for the release of their new album, Heartbeats, in the coming couple of months. just to tide you over until them, the guys have released a new, free, single, delivering a taste of what’s to come. Heartbeat will follow on from Mirror Kisses last album, Bad Dreams, which you may remember us quite liking.

Runaways is smooth and slicker than what’s come before it, with a load of crossover appeal. Injecting Mirror Kisses SynthWave-Pop sound with a little Tropical swing and an Indie coo,l Runaways is less overtly retro and more contemporary nostalgia than the last record. Don’t get us wrong, the track is still washed in an 80s sheen, particularly helped along by George Clanton’s moody croon, but Runaways transcends it’s vintage roots and brings their sound up-to-date. Waves of lush, haunting, synths share sound-space with a cheeky little guitar riff and big Disco keys, making for the prefect, intoxicating, backing for Clanton’s heartfelt performance. We’re definitely looking forward to hearing what the album holds.

[Video] The Knife’s ‘A Tooth For An Eye’

Following on from Full Of Fire, Swedish ElectroPop Experimentalists The Knife’s second new video from their forthcoming Shaking The Habitual album is A Tooth For An Eye. It’s an undulating avant-garde workout, blanketed in warm tones and percussion.

The video, challenging gender roles, was directed by Roxy Farhat and Kakan Hermansson, gets their point across whist managing to me both mysterious and funny.

A Tooth For An Eye is taken from The Knife’s forthcoming album, Shaking The Habitual, released 8th April,

[Audio] Kid Machine’s ‘Prism’

Kid Machine

I don’t think anyone who knows anything about Italo music could be in any doubt, Manchester’s Kid Machine is one of the top artists, not just in the UK, but in the world, producing records right now. In just a couple of short years, this exponent of a dark retro future has risen to the top of his game, even collaborating with the likes of the Legendary Flemming Dallum.

He’s got a new record out very soon, we’ll be featuring it in the coming weeks, but until them the Kid has dropped a track from his vaults. Prism hails from October 2011, which put’s it around Return To Space time. Prism is an energetic slice of dystopian dancefloor soundtracking. Part hyperactive synthetic groover, part haunting Sci-Fi soundtrack, Prism delivers on both counts. While your feet are moved by the relentless beat and cascading arpeggios, let your mind wander with the evocative leads and intricate, shuffling, little flourishes. Prism is a nice reminder of how good Kid Machine can be, ahead of his new release. Bring it on!

Kid Machine appears on the Space Consortium 12” alongside Casionova and Flemming Dallum, out soon.

[Audio] Decibels’ ‘Ruza’, with Holmes Price and Tronik Youth reMixes

Decibels

Next month, British Electro-Art-Poppers Decibels release their new single. Ruza is a follow-up to last year’s acclaimed The Lesser, which received a fir bit of coverage and airplay. Ruza builds of that success to deliver a confident sequel that’s sure to fine appreciation amongst Indie and Electro fans alike, and with Holmes Price, Tronik Youth and Skeleton Army stepping up for reMix duties, there’s something for everyone.

Ruza is an ecclectic tune. Reminiscent of Hot Chip at their most playful with Clock Opera as their backing band. A rowdy orchestra of  rolling basslines and random percussion, all complimented with buzzing synths and rich pads. A listless vocal just adds to the breezy IndiePop feel, expect to be hearing this tune, a lot, over festival season. Holmes Price takes that airy groove and runs with it, whipping up a Tropical injection with a classic House core. If the original is a track for hot sunny days, this mix if for the nights that follow. Tronik Youth, on the other hand, take the track to a slightly grittier place with raw beats and riffs straight out of a grimy London warehouse. Joining them on the release is a classy House mix from Skeleton Army to complete a solid package. Look out for this one.

Box Of Wolves & Christa Vi – Boy (Single)

Chillwave future-star Box Of Wolves has teamed up with the London singer/songwriter who’s name is on everybody’s lips, Christa Vi, for the release of ‘Boy’, a blissful slice of electronic Pop that you’re going to be hearing a lot more in 2013.

About Box Of Wolves:
Box of Wolves is a hybrid 90’s Summer Nostalgia/ChillWave/SynthWave music project nursed by The Venom Blog’s Gabriel Akinrinmade out of the whims of his sundry synth modulator experiments. Highly reminiscent of the sounds of Teen Daze, Com Truise, and Washed Out, Box of Wolves, even to bottom-tier music aficionado, runs like a non-obnoxious transcendental LSD alt-party set list. It’s equal parts chill, equal parts solid, thanks in part to basic, but grippingly steady, beats.

About Christa Vi:
Christa Vi is an Australian/German Singer Songwriter, based in East London. Inspired to sing and write music by life’s hard knocks, long plane journeys, London’s noise pollution, overheard snippets of conversation, the inner pain & beauty of others and a slight fear of losing that feeling. With one foot rooted in folk, the other in indie-pop, Christa writes catchy melodies that translate across genres and have worked their way into Nu-Disco remixes by artists such as Russia’s Cosmonaut Grechko and Switzerland’s Show Your Shoe. Her love of synth and electronica has led to collaborations with electronic artists including Sydney’s Coupons.
Christa Vi’s independent single releases have so far received support from Tom Robinson on BBC6, AmazingRadio, Resonance FM and indie & student radio stations around UK, USA and Australasia. She is currently working on her début album, enlisting the production skills of George Shilling (Coldcut, Yazz, Teenage Fanclub, Primal Scream).

About the reMixes:
‘Boy’ has been given a couple of diverse dancefloor workouts by Canadian Nu-Disco rising star Cyclist and Tongan Electronica producer Summer Occasion. Bringing infectious beats and dreamy synths to an already Funk fuelled track.

About electronic rumors:
Formed after the success of the ‘electronic rumors volume 1’ compilation (released in association with Ninthwave Records as a boutique electronic music outlet concentrating on quality over quantity, developing artists and releasing some of the best synthesizer music around.
