She’s The Queen’s way

Yeah, yeah, I know, it’s not Thursday. But whatcha’ gonna’ do if She’s The Queen drop a weekend track at the weekend?

I don’t know what the weather is like where you are, dear reader (did I just say that?), but here after a couple of weeks of awesome the heavens have opened and it’s chucking down. Hopefully in your neck of the woods the sun is shining and you can crank up the stereo and play ‘The Way’ all afternoon. While many StQ tracks demonstrate Drew’s frankly mystical production skills, here, maybe more than any other track, Emily’s vocal ability is really showcased. With a classic, soulful Pop voice, Emily effortlessly breezes through the highs and lows of the song with a delivery both powerful and nuanced. Smooth and summery, this new tune dials down the tempo for a laid back vibe in an ‘arm out the window’ stylee. Clean, crisp, with stunning arrangement and production, ‘The Way’ could easily (and I mean easily) be in the top 10 in the UK.

Rüfüs Vs. SymbolOne

The On the Fruit Records release of Australian Indie-Electro band Rüfüs’s ‘We Left’ reMix EP s almost upon us!

We’ve already heard the Ride The Universe reMix and beaumont’s reMix of ‘Paris Collides’ so lets check out SymbolOne’s take on the title track. It’s an epic and bombastic four and a half minutes, loaded with majestic strings and House piano over an almost Italo bassline and some nice Tropical percussion. SymbolOne have done a stunning job on the arrangement, the finale and strings solo will push you over the edge.

Cyndi Seui looses control

Cyndi Seui

Do you like your synths screaming, 80’s, and loaded with Funk? Of course you do!

Then you should check out the new track from Thai ElectroPop producer Cesar B. Be Guzman A.K.A. Cyndi Seui. Leaning heavily on the French Touch side of things, Cesar rocks the retro keys and vocoder with a Disco power reminiscent of ‘Discovery’ era Daft Punk. ‘Loose Control’ has all the elements you want in a weekend Nu-Disco tune to keep you dancing, in fact the tune was written exclusively for the opening of Bangkok Club DEMO.

♫ Cyndi Seui – Loose Control

‘Loose Control’ is available as part of a reMix series on Seui’s own Kitsch Cat Records alongside the likes of Justin Faust, Electric Youth and Edwin Van Cleef.

Pharao Black Magic’s new tune

Pharao Black Magic

‘Mambo Marimba’ is the B-side to Pharao Black Magic’s forthcoming Nang Records single, ‘Heliopolis’.

The duo have managed to make an Electro Disco track that is deep and electronic on one hand and summery cheesy fun on the other. You’re never quite sure whether you’re supposed to be nodding your head and appreciating it as a fan of synth music, or going nuts regardless of your surroundings. So why not do both? If this is the B-Side, we can’t wait for the rest of the EP.

Mustang’s new single

mustang

Out on Monday is the new single from Mustang, ‘Shooting Love’.

The ‘Fat Club Mix’ of the track is a massive, Funk laden DiscoPop track with some huge stabs to drive it along. The interplay between the stabs and the vocoder rock the verses while the choruses are dominated but some amazing 80’s-esque synth work, reminiscant of mid-80’s Electro R&B. The whole package had got a bit of a Yuksek vibe to it, or more Peter & The Magician. This track should go straight in your record box.

Substatic; they’ve been up to stuff

substatic

So, “what’s been going on in the world of Substatic?” I hear you ask. Gather ‘round, I’ll tell you.

Well, mostly the Bristol based Indie-Electro trio have been chained to the mixing desk. Spending their time slaving away in Substatic HQ, the guys and gal have been preparing a brand new live show and tracks for a forthcoming release. If you’ve been keeping an eye on their SoundCloud page you’ll have been treated to a stream of demo versions coming straight out the studio. The most prominent of these is a new version of ‘Bloodlust’. It was back in April that the first demo of Bloodlust surfaced but this new upload is cleaner, more refined. Instruments are given more space within the mix to make themselves heard, which compliments Colleen’s croon better and more emphasis on the Acid build lends and new level of excitement to the tune. ‘Drawn In Chalk’, the most recent track to emerge, eases you in with an atmospheric opening and some really nice lyrical imagery. It’s definitely epic in scope and sound. Powerful too, with Alex and Steve conveying just as much of an emotional narrative with the shifting moods of the tune as the layered, emotive, vocals. ‘Inside These Walls’ brings together influences from Drum & Bass, Electro-House and ElectroPop in that way only Substatic can. The most Poppy and catchy of the new batch, ‘Inside These Walls’ show Colleen on top form in Pop chanteuse mode while the guys mix up deep basses and broken beats but never let them run amok and cause chaos.

So now you know what’s going on!

Substatic are just starting to announce some new shows for this year including 26th August at our very own Start The Bus in Bristol and 14th September at one of my favourite London venues, The Dublin Castle in Camden, London.
