Alfa Vs. Flashlights

flashlights

The finale of today’s Alfa trilogy is his brand new reMix of fellow Binary artists Flashlights’ ‘Holidays’.

Taking the track from their EP, ‘Hidden behind Trees’, Alfa creates something truly epic. A head on collision between deep synth-Funk and wailing 80’s guitar, Alfa’s production skills are pushed into overdrive as a stream of different elements are effortlessly merged into an ass-shaking whole. The Indie-Electro vocals sound as if they’ve always been emoting over bouncy LA funk,  retro synth stabs and the kind of axe work that inspires greatness,

Alfa Vs. Van Go Lion

Van-Go-Lion

Here is where I make a joke about Alfa tracks being like busses, you wait and wait and wait then three come along at one.

This time he’s turned his attention to Portland’s finest, Van Go Lion’s ‘Glow’  and he’s getting even more funky. The Moog Funk lead line running throughout the track forms a solid bedrock which grounds the emotionally resonate song. A complex track, meticulously produced, Alfa has matched the tone of the track, just moved it to a different music location. Whereas the original was sweet SynthPop, Alfa gives it a groove and some street cred.

Van Go Lion’s singles ‘Body Moves’ and ‘We Don’t Miss A Beat’ are out now.

Alfa Vs. Little Boots

little-boots

The first of our Alfa triple-threat today come in the form of an older track, but one that gives us an excuse to post some Little Boots, and it’s been a while.

Alfa’s take on ‘Earthquake’ bring a whole new bassline and lead to the proceedings. Layering Ms. Hesketh’s bubbly Pop with a coating of smooth LA Electro Funk shows the song in a whole new light. Less urgent than the original, Alfa takes his time to build a tune that doesn’t have a care in the world. Sink into the lush synth lines.

Washed Out’s ‘Eyes Be Closed’ video

Washed Out’s ‘Eyes Be Closed’ finally gets an official video.

Timothy Saccenti and Alan Bibby directed this odd concept video. Odd, but slick.

beaumont reMixes Rüfüs

rufus

beaumont takes time out from his inventing a new genre of slowed down, laid back Nu-Disco to return to his Dreamwave/Nu-Disco roots with his new reMix of Rüfüs’ ‘We Left’.

Proving without a shadow of a doubt that he still has the skills to rock the Disco, this reMix is a full-on solid electronic epic with it’s feet on the dancefloor and it’s head in the clouds. It’s got all the right 80’s cues, and all the right Nu-Disco cues, in all the right places. beaumont’s sweeping phased synths work particularly well with the track’s vocals. The reMix features on On The Fruit’s release of ‘We Left’, as a single, alongside reMixes from Ride The Universe and SymbolOne .

Jowie Schulner goes sonic

sonic

Boombar Records main-man Jowie Schulner has dropped a new tune that some of you might find a bit familiar. Like a distant memory, this track is drilled into many of our consciousness’.

It’s the music from the Green Hill zone of the Original 1991 Sega Mega Drive Sonic the Hedgehog, which Jowie has transformed into a storming Dreamwave epic. The tune lends itself amazingly to retro Synthwavey stuff, with it’s soaring lead that was just made to be taken out of the green zone and into the nightdrive. This put a smile on my face all day!

a-ha’s ‘The Sun Always Shines On TV’ really reminds me of 1985. If you had a PPG Wave would you put it on that wonky stand?

MiGHty mOUse’s ‘Between The Pavement And The Stars’ drops today

mighty mouse

Today sees the release of MiGHty mOUse’s awesome summer sure-to-be-a-hit single, ‘Between The Pavement And The Stars’.

I’m not going to go on too much about the track, we have already raved about it, and the Edwin Van Cleef mix enough already, suffice to say it’s a catchy, funky slice of vocal DiscoPop that is sure to blow up over summer. Now the single is out you can listen to the whole reMix package on SoundCloud. Although I don’t think any of them top the original, followed by the EvC mix, there are some choice cuts on the single. Firstly MiGHty mOUse’s own ‘Funkatronic Restoration’ is an electric piano lead funker with some organ and a large horn section that mixes up their electronic Disco with a Motown flavour. Mario Basanov takes the track in a deep, bass heavy direction with his Proggy reMix and Greek SynthPop artist Tareq turns in a classic Synth track with a nice groove to it that uses the vocals to epic effect. The whole collection is pretty top quality and comes highly recommended.

Faker X Lancelot

Australian outfit Faker have premiered the video for their current single ‘Dangerous’.

It’s classic Antepodiean Indie-Electro in the Midnight Juggernauts vein with a video shot in London and featuring a shadowy pair of pursuers.

The track has been reMixed by Lancelot, who recently reMixed Penguin Prison’s ‘Multi-Millionaire’ who turns the track into a gritty slice of DiscoPop track that growls it’s way through it’s four and a half minutes. it’s heavy bass tempered with some sweet synth chords.

80’s Synth T.V. themes

streethawk

Or, 80’s Synth T.V. themes redux! This is a total rehash of a electronic rumors post from about three years ago, but I wanted to redo it with a few more tracks and some better quality version of a couple of the tune we featured last time. Also, back in the day it was all MediaFire and zShare and shit, and no-one likes that!

So, here we have something a little different for this Sunday.  Back in the 80’s, 2011 seemed like the far, far, future and although we still have no jetpacks, flying cars or robot butlers we do have the internet so I can sit here and write to you about the 80’s. The 80’s was the first decade since the 50’s where the future seemed like it was just around the corner. The optimistic felling that any second now we would be living in a Sci-Fi world. That’s where the neon, the chrome and the shiny plastic so associated with the 80’s comes from, and, of course, the synthesizers!

So if your T.V. show had anything to do with optimism, or futuristic tinged action (which, let’s face it, pretty much every 80’s T.V. show did!) you had to have a synth based theme tune.

If you read electronic rumors, you’re probably aware that most of the music you like is highly influenced by synthesized T.V. and Movie themes from the 80’s. Whether it’s ElectroPop, Dreamwave, Electro-House, Dreamwave, Nu-Disco, Dreamwave, Minimal Synth, Dreamwave, or that Dreamwave stuff (which is particularly influenced). They all take, if not musical cues then thematic, cues from entertainment themes from the 80’s.

So here’s a small collection of some of the best to fuel your nostalgia.

Beginning with possibly my favourite TV theme of the 80’s, Tangerine Dream’s theme from ‘Streethawk’ (also on their own ‘Le Parc‘ album), taking in the classic arpeggio fuelled theme’s from ‘Airwolf’ and ‘Knight Rider’, the rockin’ aspirations of Miami Vice, the proto-Daft Punk-esque theme from the French/Japanese cartoon ‘Ulysses 31’, the electronic dread of V, the T.V and French single versions of Jayce & The Wheeled Warriors and some classic Doctor Who.

I’ve tried to source the best quality copies I can find but mof these are a bit crappy, as if some kid in the 80’s held a Tandy (that’s Radio Shack for you Americans) tape recorder to the T.V. speaker to tape the music….just like I used to do!

Enjoy!
