She’s The Queen’s ‘Talk To Me’

shesthequeen

She’s The Queen have finally released their new track, ‘Talk To Me’. Was it worth the wait? Why yes, yes it was…

This track should come with a disclaimer, or at the very least a health warning. One listen is all it takes, and you’ll be humming the chorus all day, and the next. ‘Talk To Me’, with it’s epic chorus, Disco funk and perfect Pop structure, just reinforces my bewilderment that no major label has snapped up this duo yet. It’s seriously staggering that She’s The Queen aren’t releasing singles that storm the charts. they don;t need to find themselves a big, or hip, producer to work with because Drew is already at the top of his game and can easily stand shoulder to shoulder with the best of them. And he doesn’t need to be paired up with the latest singing talent, because he already has Emily, one of the best Pop singers you will ever hear. None of their flawless production is label backed, so imagine what they could do with a major behind them. All I’ll say is whoever doesn’t sign them will be kicking themselves in the long run.

Shook reMixes The Ting Tings

The Ting Tings

Dutch Funkmeister Shook’s latest reMix is of The Ting Tings’ forthcoming single ‘Hang It Up’.

It should be unsurprising by now, but Shooks version of the tune is pure Electro Boogie gold. Classic Moog-esque bass synths dance in and out of slap bass licks to create this funky, undulating undercurrent to the track, leaving room for vocal snatches and some of the most intricate, complex programming I have heard in ages. Shook continues to amaze.

The C90s reMix Trujillo (& The Penelopes)

Trujillo

The C90s are knocking quality reMixes out at an alarming rate these days, They’re like a well oiled reMix machine!

Venezuela Chilled House dude Trujillo gets the The C90s sheen this time around as they morph his track ‘Distance’ into a smooth synthetic Disco. Taking the slightly shogazey, slightly Chillwavey sound of the original The C90’s slap just the right amount of vintage synth groove underneath to give the track a kick, but not to kill it’s charm. Their raw Disco is also applied  to Indie-Popsters The Penelopes’ ‘Now Now Now’, with a truck load of Moog Funk.

Bros reMixed by Drop Out Orchestra

Bros

By Bros we mean, as an short for brothers, not a large number of people you’d call bro. ‘Cos this is Bros of ‘When Will I Be Famous’ and ‘Drop The Boy’ ( Ooo Er) fame, being given a massive slice of Acid Disco by Drop Out Orchestra.

DOO take the trio’s breakthrough hit ‘When Will I Be Famous’ of 1987 and give it a burbling 303 makeover with a Disco beat. Ad some funk guitar in the mix and you’ve got a slick update to a song that everybody knows.

Happy Hunting

Happy Hunting

The mysterious and enigmatic Happy Hunting recently released their début EP, ‘Pitchblack, containing four tracks of interesting and involving art Pop.

This London based Duo manage to walk the thin line (if there is a thin line there?) between haunting and catchy. Although not quite Shoegaze-esque wall-of-sound, Happy Haunting’s eclectic and experimental strain of Indie-Electro is, at times, more soundscape than song, but a sweet and soulful vocal always seems to keep the tracks in line. The end result is a collection of songs that are both indicate, complex music labyrinths and infections Pop tunes. ‘Pitchblack’ is a pretty impressive début.
