Plastic Plates reMixes Strange Talk

strange talk

We featured Australian Indie-ElectroPoppers Strange Talk’s new single, Cast Away, a couple of weeks ago. Now were pretty excited by the fact that once of the reMixes for the track is provided by Plastic Plates, one of our favourite producers of recent years. Not only that, but the amazing reMix is a freebie!

Cast Away is a fantastic tune in it’s own right, upbeat and summery ElectroPop fun, but with the addition of Plastic Plates synth Disco sounds the track is unbeatable. The original has a hook just made for reMixing, and Plastic Plates takes that refrain and runs with it. It’s the bassline that kills on this one, PP is well versed in retro Disco bassline work and this one right here is no exception. Punchy and funky as hell, the bassline is one you just can’t help but move to. This bass excellence is layered with rich vintage synth work and Strange Talk’s summery vocal. It’s not summer anymore I think we have to admit that, but Plastic Plates’ and Strange Talk’s robotic Tropical sounds might just have you believing it still is.

Plastic Plates’ ‘Things I Didn’t Know I Loved’

The latest release from Mr. Felix Bloxsom, better known as the awesome Plastic Plates, is actually his début EP. Which seems weird as his tracks and reMixes have been gracing these pages for a while now, but if you are going to only just release your début EP, then you can do a lot worse than being picked up by Kitsuné Music as a label.

Simon Lord steps up for vocal duties on the EP’s lead track, Things I Didn’t Know I Loved is an upbeat, catchy slice of slick ElectroPop with a Disco groove. Maybe released just a little too late to catch the heights of the summer, the track nonetheless put you in a summery mood with it’s bouncy keys, infectious piano and smooth vocal. Toy’s is the perfect port-Italo track, the kind Kitsuné are really pushing these days, with a UK late ‘80’s SynthPop bassline and Disco drums the track sprinkles on a little rave lead and it’s all set to blow up dancefloors everywhere. The EP’s remaining original, More Than Love, is the deep Disco antithesis to the EP’s Poppier openers. Growling, funky basslines and a hypnotic Acid line underpin some seriously Cosmic synth work. Not on the EP, but a free download, is this reMix of the lead track from Amine EdgeDance, who turn the track into deep ‘90’s House territory.

Plastic Plates reMixes Van She

Van She

In the second of today’s surprise new Plastic Plates reMixes he takes on the second single from Australian Indie-Electro legends Van She awesome forthcoming second album, ‘Jamaica’. Plastic Plates really outdoes himself this time.

First up, Plastic Plates wisely keeps hold of the Caribbean, Tropical flavour to the track, it what makes the track what it is and the song probably wouldn’t make sense without it. What Plastic Plates felt it did need, however, was a bouncy synthetic Disco groove. And that’s exactly what he did. Loaded with lush synths and off beat chords the track is summer dancefloor gold, but it’s amazingly subtle too, never overpowering the laid back vibe of the original. which all results in a track that’ll compel you to dance, but in a chilled way. Enjoy.

Plastic Plates’ new tune

Plastic Plates

Plastic Plates, fresh from his reMix of The Human League’s ‘Sky’ being placed in our 2011 Reader’s Choice Award, has dropped a new tune, packed full of Electro Boogie.

‘Toys’ is a really nice, epic seven minutes, of synthesizer disco with an ‘80’s Electro Funk bassline. It’s quite a trick to craft a seven minute track that doesn’t drag, but ‘Toys’ is all killer. Transcending any single dance music genre there is a big of House, a bit of Disco, a bit of B-Boy Electro and the whole thing is dancefloor gold. That bassline is so infectious, it will be with me all week.

The Magician Jeppe Plastic Plates

the magician

Plastic Plates reMixing The Magician? You know you’re in for a treat there! Two of the ruling acts in synthesizer Disco in a head on collision where the explosion sounds like an electro tom roll.

‘I Don’t Know What To Do’, featuring Jeppe on vocals, was already a top slice of Disco flavoured ElectroPop but Plastic Plates bring in a shuffling space Funk vibe. I would kinda’ like to see this overdubbed into the Disco scene in the 80’s Buck Rogers TV Movie with Gil Gerard & Erin Gray gettin’ down.

‘I Don’t Know What To Do’ is released 3rd October on Kitsuné Music.

The Magician’s ‘I Don’t Know What To Do’ EP

themagician

In exactly one months time The Magician unleashes his début solo single, ‘I Don’t Know What To Do’, on Kitsuné Music.

By now you’ve already heard the original track, featuring Jeppe on vocals. It’s got that hypnotic late ‘80’s House piano sound and Jeppe’s anthemic chant combine with thick, lush synths to make a track that will uplift dancefloors worldwide. the EP is chock full of awesomeness too, reMixes come correct from Plastic Plates, Second Date and our boy Fabian. Second Date bring some seriously deep Disco to the table with an almost sub bassline and beach guitar forming the basis for their brand of Disco, and unusual mix definitely. Plastic Plates always come through with the goods and here is no different. Synthetic Electro Disco loaded with my beloved electro toms. PP’s reMix has this slick jazzy synth lead that sets a really nice groove for the track. But it’s the man Fabian who really blows this EP up, starting his track understated with a smoothly building arpeggio that soon gives way to a massive LA Dreamwave track with a booty shaking Funk bass that moves your body while the thick synth chords send your brain to the stratosphere.

Plastic Plates reMix All The Lights

Check out Plastic Plates’ new reMix of All The Lights forthcoming single ‘Chasing Colours’.

‘Chasing Colours’ is a huge, euphoric, vocal club tune with echoes of MoS style Pop/Trance but with more of a nod to Indie-Electro and Disco. Overall it’s a pretty quality slice of Balearic ElectroPop. The Plastic Plates reMix, however, is where this really excel. Fresh from their reMix of The Human League’s new single, PP keep the momentum going with the beautiful Disco tinged ElectroPop mix. Upbeat and exciting without ever getting hectic, Plastic Plates have sound a solid groove which works so well and allows for some creative synth flourishes.

The Human League’s next single

The Human League next single, the fourth taken from their recent album ‘Credo’, will be ‘Sky’.

It’s a bit of an odd choice for a single release, I think there are tracks on the album that are better suited, but it’s pretty quintessential League. A classic ElectroPop bassline and Phil’s narrative vocals dominate the track. The single is backed up with reMixes from Plastic Plates, The Hacker, Fusty Delights and Martin Brodin. Plastic Plates bring some really nice synth Funk into play on his reMix, which is probably my favourite of the single, while Fusty Delights is a close second as he revels in a retro synth workout that boarders on ols school EBM at times with rapid fire arpeggios.
