[MP3] Glass Candy’s ‘The Possessed’

glasscandy

Here we have another little taste of what come come with Italians Do It Better’s forthcoming, and long awaited, After Dark 2 compilation. This look behind the curtain comes in the form of Glass Candy’s absolutely epic, seven minute, Extended Runway Edit of The Possessed. No doubt an extended runway edit because it soundtracked some high-concept fashion show in recent months, as is Glass Candy tracks wont.

A beautiful, minimal seven minutes of synthetics. The Possessed pairs a stripped down Italo bassline with a slower tempo to a creeping  background dread. This plays nicely against the more optimistic, warbling lead lines and sweeping synths. The contradiction is matched in Ida No’s vocals, sounding quite upbeat as she lays down some melancholy lyrics. The Possessed is deserved of it’s seven minute length, it;s a track you just have to go with and enjoy the experience.

Glass Candy – The Possessed (Extended Runway Edit)

After Dark 2 will be out soon, with tracks from Glass Candy, Mirage, Desire, Farah, Twisted Wires, Appaloosa, Symmetry, and Chromatics.

[Audio] Figure Of 8 reMixes Sophie Sparken

Sophie Sparken

Here’s a new one from our Belfastian friend Figure Of 8 (if Belfastian isn’t a word it should be. That’s out gift to the people of Belfast, they can have that for free). this morning he dropped by the electronic rumors Inbox to deliver this deceptively complex remix of his friend, Northampton based Folk singer Sophie Sparken, and her tune Trouble.

Folk song may begin to grate with their acoustic guitar endlessness, but they make perfect fodder for intricate, spacey, electronic reMixes. And Sophie’s Trouble has a particularly nice, lilting vocal that seems almost dreamlike over Figure Of 8’s Acid tinged synths and and shuffling percussion. The beauty of this reMix is that is sounds really simple, really sparse, until you peel back the layers and find it’s meticulously crafted core. Making complexity sound effortless? That’s production! Figure Of 8’s continues his quest to deliver classy, and classic sounding, Dance tracks. Timeless and easy on the ears.

[Video] Hervé & Maria Minerva’s ‘Gold’

We really like the direction London bassmeister Hervé has taken with his new album. it;s great to see artists trying something a bit different and Hervé has put together 9 tracks of experimental, beautiful, moody compositions and collaborations. One of the standouts being his new single, featuring Maria Minerva, Gold.

Tim Kelly directs the video, with visuals as hypnotic and woozy as the track’s sonics.

Hervé’s Art Of Disappearing album is out 4th March on Cheap Thrills.

[Audio] Rush Midnight’s new single

Rush Midnight

In a haunting combination of icy dystopian synths and warm human vocals, Brooklyn Indie-ElectroPop artist Rush Midnight (Twin Shadow bassist Russ Manning) unleashes his new single from Cascine this week. It’s first track to be taken from his forthcoming album, due out later this year, which follows on from his critically acclaimed +1 EP of last year.

The new single, Don’t Give Me Your Love, is a melting pot of elements that make up a surprising whole. Lo-Fi beats and a rolling Indie-Electro bassline would seem to make strange bedfellows with SynthWave’s 80s soundtrack synths and vintage Pop leads, but it works amazingly well. Add to this Russ’ husky, delay washed vocals, that lend the track a personal quality and you’ve got a blissful ElectroPop tune that words dramatic BladeRunner synthscapes and introspective bedroom Pop at the same time. Wonderful.

[Audio] Viceroy reMixes Two Door Cinema Club

Two Door Cinema Club

Sun is the second single to be taken from Two Door Cinema Club’s new album Becon. Amongst those pulling reMix duties on the release is San Francisco Nu-Disco producer Viceroy. Fresh from the success of his Dream Of Bombay single with Chela, Viceroy is in the zone right now and this mix is no exception.

Delivering a more ElectroPop track than we’re used to from Viceroy, he still manages to inject the upbeat synthy tune with his trademark beach-party Disco. Bringing bright retro stabs to the mix, Viceroy give his reMix a slightly 80s vibe that mixes well with his feel-good Tropical groove. There’s nothing about this one that doesn’t make you feel good.

[Video] The Aikiu’s ‘Fools’

French ElectroPop outfit The Aikiu’s sweeping new single, Fools, was released this week. An involving SynthPop number with a Post-Punk twist.

Here’s the video, directed by Lisa Paclet. Don’t worry, it’s not nearly as spooky as the strobed owl at the beginning suggests.

[MP3] Aimes’ new reMix EP

Aimes

Brooklyn Chilly SynthPop artist Aimes is gearing up for the release of a new reMix collection. A release of reworking of tracks from his acclaimed Beautiful Decay EP of last year, Aimes has roped in the likes of Soft Lighting, Chaz Bronz, Beto Cravioto, Travmatic, Business Casual Disco, Rioux and Jules Schimmer and more for an eight track (which is more of an album really!) monster that spans numerous electronic styles and delivers something for everyone.

Standout tracks on the release, for us, include Jules Schimmers’ sumptuous 80’s take on Wake Me Up Before The Sun Goes Down. Schimmer gets his Pet Shop Boys on, heavy on the retro bass and cowbells, all wrapped up in swirling synth strings. The EP’s opener, a reMix of Somewhere In Space We Hang Suspended produced by Soft Lighting, sets the Cosmic mood for the rest of the EP, all pulsating synths in a reverb washed haze. For a more dancefloor oriented inclusion, you can look to Chaz Bronz whose deep Chicago House take on Oh My My has delayed organs and rimshots to place it right at home in a late 80’s warehouse party. The whole EP has everything you’d want, from Disco to Ambient, all wrapped up with Aimes’ Sci-Fi smoothness.

[Audio] Fenech-Soler’s ‘Maiyu’

Fenech_Soler

One of the UK’s best ElectroPop/Indie-electro outfits, Fenech-Soler, return this week with plans to unleash their second album later in the year and a taste of what to expect. It’s been a rough year or so for these guys, but they are back, fighting fit, and gearing up for a sold-out tour before the album drops.

Following last October’s All I Know single, this new track, Maiyu, proves why Fenech-Soler never disappoint. Kicking off with a deep Housey bassline, the track slowly builds into a rapturous, glitzy, ElectroPop anthem. Taking it’s time to switch between it’s pulsating, dirty synth bass grove and huge euphoric keys, Maiyu, takes you along for the ride as it dips and builds. Assisted by Ben;s rousing vocals and  evocative lead lines the track build toward percussion fuelled finale that is sure to see this one as a live favourite.
