Lancelot’s ‘We Can Dance’

lancelot

Yesterday saw the release of Binary’s newest family member, Lancelot,’s début EP, ‘We Can Dance’. It may only be February, but one listen to this EP and you’ll have the shades and shorts on in no time, it’s summer Disco gold.

We’ve already covered the first track on the EP, ‘Spoken Word’, a slick Disco-House tune with some amazing melodies and flourishes that still make it a stand out track. The EP’s lead tune is the titular ‘We Can Dance’, is more retro synth Funk led Disco but with a nice vocal twist. The twist being that is has vocals. The vocal element almost turn this track into a Nu-Disco anthem, if such a thing is possible. It;s definitely a good choice to lead the EP with, this track could have people singing all summer. Remixes of ‘We Can Dance’ are supplied by, amongst others, Binary boys, Fabian and Goldroom, two of our favourite producers around. Goldroom’s mix is deep and slick. A visceral groove with a Tropical sheen and an infectious lead line. Fabian takes things to a more robotic Disco place, his mastery of multi-layered Electro and eclectic influences shining through. that’s not all that’s on the EP, there’s more originals and more reMixes, it’s definitely worth checking out.

Goldroom X Citizens!

citizens

Once more Josh Legg has knocked it out of the park with his latest Goldroom reMix. I would say the constant quality is getting tedious if it wasn’t for the fact that his reMixes rock.

this time around it’s Kitsuné’s Citizens! turn for a ride on the Goldroom train as their ‘Reptile’ gets and almost Italo workout. Check out those bright, shimmering synths, like something straight out of an optimistic ‘80’s Sci-Fi movie, a new feature to Goldroom’s arsenal, but one that slips in effortlessly with the laidback funk we’ve come to love. Mixing that with Citizens! track actually results in the most ‘80’s Goldroom track to date, an interesting, but not in the slightest unwelcome, development.

‘Reptile’ is released 19th March with reMixes from remixes by ATTAR!, Cosmic Kids & Tony Adams, Matthias Zimmermann and ColeCo.

Goldroom’s ‘Angeles’

Goldroom

Yesterday Goldroom, known to the rest of us as one of Binary’s head-honchos Josh Legg, released his début EP.

Leading the EP is new track ‘Angels’, a supremely laid back track with a tropical Disco feel. The percussion alone is something to make you sit up. Making some brave sonic moves within Disco, Josh makes each one of them pay off by creating a chilled beach-party groove with a live quality that’s not so easy for an electronic musician to capture. Layer that with Josh’s vocals, which he always layers thick to create really sweeping harmonies, and you’ve got a track which I imagine, completely personifies the ideal of it’s subject matter.

Niki & The Dove X Goldroom

Niki-and-the-Dove

Goldroom, A.K.A. Binary and NightWaves main man Josh, is just going from strength to strength with each release, and gathering a momentum and reputation that I can’t remember happing this quickly for a while.

Well deserved too, his beach party Disco sound is finding fans all over for its smooth grooves and attention to detail. His latest reMix, from  Niki & The Dove is a soundclash between a chilled peice of Tropical and a ‘90’s House anthem that I can’t help but think was released a few months too late. This one could have been the sound of the summer.

Goldroom reMixes Gigamesh

gigamesh2

I’ve been dying to post this for a couple of weeks and now I finally can. Here’s Goldroom‘s masterful reMix of Gigamesh’s ‘Red Light’.

Premiered on The Magicians’ ‘Magic Tape Sixteen’ , Josh Legg’s reMix can only be described as ‘a treat for the ears’. This track is the aural equivalent of sitting on a rooftop, overlooking the city, watching the sun go down, an end to the day and the slow beginnings of the night. I would have said ‘sitting on a beach’ but there is something slightly urban about the track, I think it’s the rolling ‘80’s bass gives it a hot city nights feel while the dreamy synth work bring to mind that point at dusk when anything is possible. We’ve really dug all of Josh’s  Goldroom work so far, but he has really nailed it this time!

Goldroom reMixes Small Pyramids

Small Pyramids

Binary and NightWaves man Josh Legg is back in a Goldroom state of mind as he drops his newest reMix, for fellow LA producer Small Pyramids.

Small Pyramids’ début single. ‘I Want Blood’ is transformed into the slickest of slick beach Disco tunes. It really feels like Josh is hitting his stride with his yacht vibed Disco now and has carved out quite a unique sound for himself, incorporating elements of Indie-Electro, Dreamwave and Nu-Disco and giving then that sailing sheen. With this mix he certainly gets his groove on, with a smooth funk bass and wicked little licks, but a soaring synth lead is never far away. Enjoy in he sun with friends.

Poolside Vs. Goldroom

Josh Legg’s Goldroom project just keeps going from strength to strength.

He’s just dropped this reMix of Poolside’s ‘Do You Believe’?’  and it’s another storming track full of those chilled Goldroom vibes. With a slightly Tropical feel to the melody and percussion and some smooth music DNA running through this reMix is a head on collision between Disco and Yacht Rock. Perfect for lazy summer evenings.

More Penguin Prison reMixes

penguinprison

Penguin Prison’s ‘Fair Warning’ is finally released as a single toward the end of the month, so here’s is some more reMixes to get you pumped.

We’ve dropped the dub of Goldroom’s mix last week but now you can check out the full reMix version. Josh Legg whips up a relaxed beach party vibe The main riff keeps your head nodding while the distant guitar chug and tropical drum fills work their magic to conjure up images of good times and sunsets. All this works amazingly well with PPs vocals, taking him out of the city to being amongst the palm trees. Manchester’s Club Clique exists in the place where Indie-Electro and Disco meet. With an almost New York Disco video that wouldn’t be out of place on DFA, with a solid Disco Bass and smooth synths plating against a relentless Funk guitar riff that makes the song it’s own.

Penguin Prison reMixed by Goldroom & Disco Bloodbath

penguinprison

Disco Bloodbath take Penguin Prison on a trip to the deep side.

This low groove, almost progressive, reMix of Penguin Prison’s ‘Fair Warning Pt. 2’ is both hypnotic and engrossing. Utilising pitched down vocals just adds to the body shaking flow of this track with just the right side of too much cowbell. Binary and NightWaves man Josh Legg’s Goldroom project’s reMix has been getting some serious mixtape love, and deservedly too. It’s grabs the track and drags it straight to the beach for a party. Summery vibes and good times are on the cards with Goldroom’s mix, full of flying arpeggios and uplifting chords.
