Coloureds’ new EP

Oxford based Disco terror duo Coloureds release their new EP, ‘Tom Hanks’ today.

This is the masked crusaders’ fifth release and continues their progression toward dropping increasingly dancefloor oriented tunes (as opposed to the being-smacked-in-the-face-with-a-sampler approach of their early works) bringing them more inline with an Ed Banger flavour sound. The title track is pure French Disco noise, a cut-up funk monster. Sure, it takes a drill to your forehead, bores a hole into your skull and pours the funk in with a funnel, but it’s funk nonetheless. Coloureds have managed to bring a straight-up groove to their tunes without loosing any of the distorted noise chaos that has become their trademark, and that has made their live shows something that must be experienced. Another standout of the EP is the awesomely titled ‘Wanna’ Come Back To My Room And Listen To Some SebastiAn?’, which kinda’ lives up to it’s name. Solid and relentless, I imagine if you did go back to their room and listen to some SebastiAn it would probably be some kind of fisheye lensed nightmare scenario.

Check it out:

Urchins’ ‘Xylophobe’

‘Xylophobe’ is the new single from Lincoln duo Urchins.

Released last week on Cheap Thrills, the single’s two tracks are a couple of sunny summer House tracks with some nice Balearic beats but it’s the reMixes where things really start to shine. Grum’s reMix of the title track is a surprising, exciting robotic Disco jam with am unrelenting hook. Or take this reMix from Gamble & Burke, a blog exclusive now appearing on the single package, morphs the track into a smooth, good times, ElectroPop track.

Frankmusik reMixed by MNEK

Frankmusik and Far East Movement’s ‘Do It In The AM’ isn’t my favourite of Vincent’s tracks but it has really grown on me.

Throw in this big warp bass Electro-House mix from UK producer MNEK, premiered last week on Annie Mac’s show, that does some really interesting things with the original. Upping the grit on the track, MNEK drop a tight party-starting groove that is not only in your face, but leaves a surprising amount of the original arrangement intact (and you know I love it when reMixes do that!).

Monarchy Vs. Jaymo & Andy George

Moda main-men Jaymo & Andy George are one of the many who have reMixes ElectroPop duo Monarchy’s latest single ‘I Won’t Let Go’.

Featuring on their ‘Moda Volume 1’ compilation it’s a totally new take on the song that shrugs off the ElectroPop in favour of dancefloor madness. Leaving snatches of the original amongst the big beats and mind-loosing bassline this is a track to get lost in on the dancefloor.

Russ Chimes’ ‘Tonic’/’Helix’ EP

Russ Chimes’ nearly broke Twitter a couple of weeks ago with a 1m15s teaser of his new EP, my entire timeline went a little mental for a while.

Not without justification though, as with the ‘Tonic’/’Helix’ EP, released this week, Mr. Chimes, once again, shows himself to be head and shoulders above the competition. The EP, as it’s title suggest, is only two tracks (although I suspect a reMix EP is incoming) but two tracks from RC are worth a whole album from some other artists. On ‘Tonic’ we see the man introducing more Ravey elements in to his Disco (as hinted at in his recent reMixes) but never loosing the Funk. The track whips the listener into a dancefloor frenzy before, in the middle-eight, dropping one of the sweetest leads you’ve ever heard then relentlessly kicking you back to the groove. It’s intense stuff, crafted with signature Russ Chimes precision. The flip side, ‘Helix’ is a deep Electro-House track with a Moog Funk bassline and on old school beat that’ll have the dancefloor loosing it’s mind.
