DEVO receive Moog Innovation Award

This year the recipients of the newly titled Moog Innovation Award are none other than New Wave pioneers DEVO! The award, handed out by Moog Music to artists who’s pioneering work exemplifies the innovative spirit of Bob Moog, her previously gone to Keith Emerson, Herb Deutsch, Gershon Kingsley, Jan Hammer and Bernie Worrell (under the title the Moog Award). DEVO will receive the accolade at this years MoogFest in the last weekend of October in Asheville, NC where they will be presented with a special synthesizer, of which more details are to come.

“MoogFest is about shunning limitations, opening your mind and rejoicing in what’s next. MoogFest is about celebrating the marriage of technology and art, fearlessly embracing the future while respecting the genre-definers of the past. That’s why we created the Moog Innovation Award, to celebrate artists that helped to catapult pop music into the future and commemorate those artists that boldly burst through established norms to pave the way forward. That’s the spirit of Bob Moog and that’s the essence of the Moog Innovation Award.

The first recipient of the Moog Innovation Award is DEVO and we feel that they are a perfect representation of innovative sound-sculpting and genre-defying electronic music. Like Bob Moog, DEVO enthusiastically charted their own course and thus dramatically affected pop culture because of it. Not to mention the fact that they used Moog instruments to create their inimitable sound. MoogFest and the Moog Innovation Award is the perfect way to pay homage to Bob Moog and his adopted hometown of Asheville, NC where he raised his kids, gave birth to some of his greatest inventions and where he re-established the company that bears his name and carries on his legacy, Moog Music.” – Emmy Parker, Moog Music

Congratulations to DEVO, well deserved!

‘Shampain’; Marina’s new video

Probably the most purely ElectroPoppy track on Marina And The Diamonds ace début album, ‘The Family Jewels’, ‘Shampain’ is the next track to receive single treatment.

It’s a big, 80’s sounding, Power Pop track that’s a very good choice as a single and the video has more than a few 80’s inspired goings on. It’s like one part walk of shame, one part Thriller

The single for ‘Shampain’ drops October 11 via 679 Recordings.

Aeroplane’s Superstar video

Check out the brand spankin’ new video for Aeroplane’s second single from the ‘We Can’t Fly’ album, ‘Superstar’.

It’s an ace song, the vocodered vocals and piano work together so well, hella weird video though!

‘Superstar’ is released 13th September on Eskimo Recordings with ‘We Can’t Fly’ following on the 24th.

French Horn Rebellion reMix new OMD

So we’ve heard Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark eagerly awaited forthcoming single, ‘If You Want It’, we’ve heard the VillaNah reMix, now it’s time for French Horn Rebellion to take the stage and show off their reMix of the track.

From it’s seemingly never ending build to the eventual beat and bass drop it’s clear that the FHR guys had a lot of fun reMixing this track. It kinda’ takes classic OMD and puts it through an eclectic Electro meat grinder and manages to put it back together in a coherent, and catchy way.

OMD (Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark) – If You Want It (French Horn Rebellion reMix)

I love the fact that SynthPop pioneers such as OMD are getting such hip names in the current Electro scene to reMix for them, it shows they are still enjoying, and keeping up with, electronic music.

The ‘If You Want It’ single is released 6th September with ‘The History Of Modern’ slated to be released later this year.

The Sound Of Arrows synth up The Naked & Famous

Sweeden’s kings of SynthPop, The Sound Of Arrows, have worked serious wonders with Neon Gold‘s The Naked & Famous and their recent single ‘Young Blood’.

A few new reMixes of ‘Young Blood’ are starting to come in but it’s the Swedish duo’s that really stands out mixing the New Zealand Indie-Electro with some hardcore synths which gives a whole new energy to the vocals. For something a little more chilled, try Pink Ganter’s traditional Japanese Dubstep mashup.

A taste of the new Freezepop album

There’s a new Freezepop album on the way! This is a very good thing!

After months of quiet the (now) foursome have announced that their new record, titled ‘Imaginary Friends’, will be released in November. If you’ve never been exposed to Freezepop you’re missing out, their unique brand of introspective, fun, Indie-ElectroPop had been a staple of most Electro fans collections for years now and their quirky one-on-one synthesizer sound pre-dates the current crop of BedroomPop stars and must have been a big influence on much of that scene.

‘Magnetic’, the first track to appear from the forthcoming album is pure Freezepop. DIY sounding SynthPop and tales of Liz Enthusiasm’s life. It’s good to have them back!

Freezepop – Magnetic

That there is just a 128kbps taster, you can download the high quality 320kbps mp3 in exchange for your email addy over at Freezepop’s official website, a bargain if ever I saw one!

‘Imaginary Friends’ is due to drop 9th November.

Anoraak Vs. We Have Band

I love We Have Band’s deep, electronic, hypnotic reMix of Anoraak’s awesome current single ‘Try Me’.

Released this month ‘Try Me’ is a post-Dreamwave (if that even is a thing yet?), Indie tinged, ElectroPop monster of a tune. We Have Band strip it down to intertwining arpeggios, processed vocals and haunting guitar lines over a tribal drum track that hammers the tune into your brain!

‘Try Me’ is out right now, ‘Wherever The Sun Sets’, being released 30th August.

LexiconDon X But Funk X Build & Clancy

So, I was thinking, ‘can I do another LexiconDon post?’. With so many recent reMixes and their incredible début album dropping electronic rumors is becoming inundated with LexiconDon posts. Well, sorry, but the answer is yes, I can do another post, mainly ‘cos they are worth it, but also ‘cos these two new reMixes of ‘Student Body’ are blowing up!

I’m not going to go on about LexiconDon, do a search on this site to read how we’ve hyped them up in the recent months and a review of their album. What we’ve got here is Bit Funk and Build & Clancy taking on ‘Student Body’ for said album. the internet seems to be going ape shit over the Bit Funk reMix, and for good reason, it’s a Disco flavoured floor pleaser which washes the track with French Touch and smooth guitar licks. However, I think I prefer the Build & Clancy reMix, it’s got these nice big 80’s chords, over a pumping Nu-Disco backing that get me going just that little bit more.

Yuksek returns to reMix Oh Land

Things have been quiet of late from the awesome Yuksek camp, so much so I’d nearly forgotten about him, but showing us he’s still alive he’s back here to reMix the new single from Oh Land .

Oh Land is Nanna Øland Fabricius, a Dane living in New York who’s music is eclectic,  slightly jazzy, singer/songwriter stuff. Yuksek’s reMix of ‘Son Of a Gun’ is pure electro funk. Not as frantic as previous Yuksek productions, there’s more of a steady groove going on on this track. and it’s better for it!

CHEW LiPS reMix The Brute Chorus

East London’s The Brute Chorus have got their bestest mates and electronic rumors faves CHEW LiPS to favour them with a reMix of their new single ‘Heaven’.

It a cool reMix, it’s got CHEW LiPS trademark blippy synth sound but also this really nice shuffling beat that is unexpected, but welcome, with the music. I’d actually like to hear more of vocalist James Steel working in electronic music as his voice and the synths makes for an interesting and unique combination.

The Brute Chorus – Heaven (CHEW LiPS reMix)

‘Heaven’ is released 6th September with their self titled album coming a little later and featuring guest vocals from Tigs.
