[MP3] Earl Grey reMixes Kido Yoji

Kido Yoji

Toady seems full of old track that are just seeing the light of day, and sound amazingly fresh despite their age. Check out this reMix from Danny Ashenden, better know as one half of The C90s, in his Earl Grey guise. It’s of Kido Yoji’s  Won’t You Come Again? that, for one reason or another, didn’t make the single. It’s two years old (Kido’s not even realising solo track any more), but it sounds as fresh as anything you’ll hear this year.

Maybe the future Funk was just too futuristic for Yoji’s label? Who knows? What we do know, though, is this tune lays on the laid back synth Fun, thick. The Tokyo producer’s beloved talkbox vocals fit like a glove with Earl Grey’s blissful beats. Like a sunset on a alien shore, this reMix nicely combines a chilled beach groove with a touch of Cosmic Disco. If you like your synth sound spacey, and your Disco relaxed, then this is the tune for you.

[Audio] Shelby Grey’s new single

Shelby Grey

There’s a new single in the offing from ‘The ever-awesome Holographic People’, which also happens to be their big 1-0. This tenth release on the label comes from sable staple Shelby Grey, who delivers two tracks, slightly darker than we’re used to from him, full of atmosphere and import.

The Devil’s Dancer sees grey moving toward a more SynthWave sound. Ominous and cinematic, Shelby plays out a tense audio narrative using a sound palette not unlike the synthetic soundtracks of late early 80’s Zombie movies. With a hint of John Carpenter amongst the synthetic Disco sounds, The Devil’s Dancer is both funky and creepy rolled into one. the B-Side, Danse Macarbre, is surprisingly upbeat. Build on a foundation of Moog Funk, Danse Macarbre weaves it’s way through layers of intricate melodies and mood setting textures which end up being more Cosmic than Gothic. The single is a departure of Grey, but one that shows he has more than one string to his bow.

[Audio] MiGHty mOUse reMixes Good Night Keaton

Good Night Keaton

Well, it’s shaping up to be a Good Night Keaton and Mereki themed week! The Miami horror drummer’s début solo single is out now, and one of the highlights of the reMix package comes from   a slick Disco-House rework from London’s MiGHty mOUse. Prepare for some spaced-out floorfiling grooves.

MiGHty mOUse is really carving out a nice, unique, niche for himself amongst the flood of Disco and House sounds. Folding Cosmic Disco’s textures and his Disco past into a Housier sound MiGHty mOUse brings the best of all worlds. On this reMix of Next To Mexico MM combines a pumping dancefloor beat with a burbling, almost Italo, bassline and layers of hazy, Sci-Fi atmospherics. He then uses this meeting of styles to build a classic, pretty deep, House track on, working deftly with Mereki’s vocal. The end result is a real treat, a tune both kickin’ and musically interesting. It’s ready for the floor.
