[MP3] Wolf Saga reMixes Iggy Azalea

Iggy Azalea

Sometimes reMixes are all the same. A Nu-Disco producer reMixing a Nu-Disco producer, you can guess what the results are. But sometimes a cross genre reMix comes along when the reMixing producer completely makes the song their own and take it in directions that are miles away from where it started, yet sound like it was always meant to be. Catch a listen to Canadian Chillwaver Wolf Saga’s reMix of Iggy Azalea current single, Work, and see what we mean.

How this works we’re not sure, but it does, perfectly. Work now sounds like it was always supposed to be an epic 80s synth Power Ballad and Iggy’s flow doesn’t, in the slightest, feel lout of place there. Lyrically Work is quite a story, and Wolf Saga teases a real emotional resonance out of it with layers of cinematic synths and pulsating bass notes. We can’t understate how much this reMix surprisingly works, so well, you can;t help but be drawn into it.

[Audio] Alison Valentine’s ‘Circles And Triangles’

Alison Valentine

Out this week is the new compilation from Kitsuné Music, Kitsuné America 2. Amongst the many great tunes held within is this gem, the new track from New York Indie-ElectroPop princess Alison Valentine, Circles And Triangles. So settle back and prepare to be enveloped by Valentines musical dream.

As it;s title suggests, Circles And Triangles is a daydreamy, doodley piece of music. A swirling audio painting with an almost Chillwave atmosphere underpinned by some solid Funk bass and drums. Alison delivers her hazy vocal with the kinds of intriguing quirk that we haven’t really heard since the first Marina And The Diamonds records. Managing to somehow be both and smokey  and insanely catchy Circles And Triangles is utterly intoxicating.

[Audio] Jensen Sportag reMix Kisses

kisses_thumb_thumb

Nashville’s Chilly Electro Funk exports Jensen Sportag’s album should be out soon-ish. They are currently holed up in the studio putting the finished touches to the record. In the meantime you can tide yourself over with this reMix of awesome LA SynthPop duo Kisses track The Hardest Part, which is taken from their equally awesome forthcoming second album Kids In LA.

The Sportags bring a lush summer beach vibe to the track and instantly remind us of why we’re looking forward to their album so much. It’s nice mixture of playfulness and seriousness. With a tight cool-beans groove, loaded with synth Funk, underpinning the track, Kisses vocals are complimented by layers and layers of airy melodies and the smoothest of solos. The is late nights in the city music, a hot smokey atmosphere that is probably accompanied by some block typography and geometric graphic design.

[MP3] Wolf Saga covers Frank Ocean

wolf-saga_thumb

Canadian synth head Wolf Saga is definitely becoming a big blip on our radar. He caught out eye (or is that ear?) last month with his track Reign At Night, a rapturous synthesizer opus. In-between producing wondrous original tunes Wolf Saga has indulged his love of recording cover versions with this new tune, as he performs Frank Ocean’s Thinkin’ ‘Bout You.

Wolf Saga, once again, treats us to waves of rich synths tempered with an R&B flavour. There’s something about the sound pallet Wolf Saga uses, the tones of his sounds, that is just pleasing to the ear. On Thinkin’ ‘Bout You he uses them to the fullest, blending them with his understated voice to create something laid back and shimmering. Pure blissful vibes here.

[Audio] Classixx & Nancy Whang

The second single to be taken from their forthcoming, and amazing, début album, Hanging Gardens Classixx is the emotional rush of All Your Waiting For. Following on from  Holding On/Boarderline, All Your Waiting For features the vocals of DFA’s Nancy Whang and delivers classic breezy Disco beats.

Sunshine, west coast, poolside Nu-Disco vibes exude from every second of this track. Despite Whang’s bittersweet song, the mood of the track is kept laid-back with warm synths, a tow-tapping beat and starlight leads. With a wobbly Disco bassline, to inject the track with a little quirkiness, All Your Waiting For serves all your nostalgic Disco needs, whether that’s for the 80s, or for 2007. Broad spectrum nostalgia, that’s what All Your Waiting For delivers.

[MP3] Jordan F reMixes Tokyo Denmark Sweden

Tokyo Denmark Sweden

Once again, Jordan F delivers some of the most vibrant, emotional, electronic music around with his latest offering. The track is a reMix of fellow Australians, Indie band Tokyo Denmark Sweden, and their track When It Breaks, which is taken from their début self-titled EP, just released.

Returning, slightly, to his core 80s SynthWave sound, Jordan makes the best use of his recent excursions into more left-field arenas to deliver a track with a solid nostalgic backbeat that is accompanied by waves of Chill synths. All this works amazingly with Tokyo Denmark Sweden’s floaty female vocals to create a whole that is dreamy, catchy, thoughtful and dancefloor ready. We’re sticking this one in our back pocket until the summer.

[Audio] Vince Clarke reMixes Chad Valley

Chad Valley

You know you’ve made it when you can get the most important person in SynthPop to reMix your tracks. We’ll deserved too, Oxford ChillPopster Chad Valley’s Young Hunger album was one of the highlights of last year, now he’s got SynthPop legend Vince Clarke, of Depeche Mode, Yazoo, Erasure & The Assembly fame, to rework his track Up And Down. Exciting stuff.

And Vince certainly works his classic SynthPop credentials here,it’s a nice contemporary take on a 80s sound. Almost Erasure-like in places, the reMix rides along on a bouncy synthetic bassline and popping percussive synths while all the time delivering a stomping dancefloor beat. Working well with Hugo’s vocals, in fact making them sound totally retro, Vince proves once again why he is as revered as he is.

[MP3] Kisses reMix The Embassy

The Embassy

Here’s a nice little, summery, reMix that LA SynthPop duo Kisses have done. the target of their laid back noodlings is Swedish Indie outfit The Embassy. Their recent single Everything I Ever Wanted is pure Folky Indie, but Kisses save the day  by injecting the track with some buzzy synths and B-Boy Beats.

It’s the bests and the vocals that sine in this mix. That’s early 80s drum machine beat give the song a whole new spin. Whilst there’s still a smattering of the originals guitar in this reMix, it’s nicely counterpointed by with warm synths and electric piano. The vocal becomes a smooth, almost Chillwavey, summery haze when balanced with Kisses chilled, Venice Beach, SynthPop. Morphing a twee Indie tune into a laid back summer crusin’ track, Kisses have worked their magic once again.

The Embassy – Everything I Ever Wanted (Kisses reMix)

Everything I Ever Wanted is taken from The Embassy’s album, Sweet Sensation, out now.

Wolf Saga is a Canadian artist whos been hovering around out radar for a while now. Producing some seriously epic ElectroPop with a mix of SynthWave, Chillwave and Indie-Electro flavours, Wolf Saga really knows his way around a synth. He’s just released a new single, Reign At Night with all the vocoding and soaring solos you could want in a track.

Reign At Night drops you into a moody, storm filled, soundscape, punctuated by a raindrop arpeggio before delivering a rich SynthPop track loaded with 80s references without actually being an 80s pastiche.
