[Audio] Cut Copy’s ‘Free Your Mind’

cut-copy_thumb

Following on from the last taste we had of Australian Indie-ElectroPoppers Cut Copy’s long awaited new album, Let Me Show You, Modular have announced the albums title and dropped the record’s lead track. The album is due out on November and will be titled, Free Your Mind. Here’s the title track.

What does Free Your Mind sound like? Well, pretty much late 80s/early 90s Indie-Dance, it’s almost pure House influenced Madchaster. Baggy jeaned, floppy haired and ‘avin it large. Frantic live drums, classic House piano, big diva backing vocals, Rave whoops, a Chicago influenced bassline, burbling Acid synths and uplifting Beatles-esque choruses. Any of this sounding familiar? It’s an excellently executed revival of the sound and one Cut Copy still injects their personality into. Exciting stuff.

[Audio] Fear Of Tigers’ ‘Liquid Gold’

Fear Of Tigers

This one a short sharp shock if blissful dance music. Liquid Gold is the new one from Fear Of Tigers, a little taster of what to expect from his forthcoming sophomore album, Hypnerotomachia Poliphiliout. Mr. Tigers has dropped a few new track lately, but we think this is the first one definitely confirmed to be appearing on the new record. It bodes well.

Liquid Gold is piano driven classic dance music. Drawing from many different eras of dancefloor smashes. Loaded with tropes from both the worlds of Pop and dance, including horn blasts, whooping Acid stabs, slick Disco guitar and big room synths that just build and build. Couple all this with nice line in impassioned vocals and you’ve got a track that has us very excited for the album to rear it’s head.

[MP3] Aimes’ ‘Give It To Me’

One of Brooklyn’s finest exports Aimes has released another tune in his slightly Housier direction. The second of his free downloads in the waters of this new sound for him, Give It To Me, brings an even deeper, irresistible, House vibe to Aimes music and it’s deservedly getting a lot of DJ support right now.

Mixing up Aimes spacey Chillwavey background with some moody warehouse beats and a slightly Tropical vibe, Give It To Me gently pulls you along with it’s subtly pumping bassline and waves of dreamtime synths give it that laid back haze we’re used to from Aimes, but there a compelling late night floor filler side to Give It To Me’s equation too, and the two word amazingly together to produce five minutes of bliss.

“I never thought I’d say this right, but pull down the blinds. I’m closing the bureau…for an hour”

It’s the time of year peeps, when we take out we’ll deserved (even if we do say so ourselves) holiday and head to the sunny Isle Of Wight for Bestival.

Whilst there we will be enjoying the fine offering from he likes of Kate Boy, Nile Rodgers & Chic, The Knife, DJ Falcon, Disclosure, Sexy Sushi, Duke Dumont, Maya Jane Coles, Bobby Tank, Psychemagik, London Grammar, Hot Natured, Fatboy Slim, M.I.A., Rudimental, Jesse Ware, DJ Fresh/Live, James Blake, Squarepusher, Simian Mobile Disco, Crystal Fighters, Is Tropical, Man Without Country, Annie Mac, Julio Bashmore, Erol Alkan, Fake Blood, Joy Orbison, Hudson Mohawke, Toddla T Sound,  Mark Jones and The 2 Bears. But more importantly good times with good friends in good weather (well, that last one was a little optimistic, we’ll see…).

It you want to keep up with all our ridiculousness then follow us (I say ‘us’, I mean ‘me’) on Twitter and Instagram for pictures and unintelligible waffle about whatever foolishness I’m up to.

We should be back in business around the middle of next week, it depends how bad the hangover is and how long the comedown lasts.

Later Peeps.

Peace.

[MP3] Ride The Universe’s ‘You And I’

Ride The Universe

Before we talk about the new tune from Dreamwave superheroes Ride The Universe, let’s just take a moment to appreciate the gorgeous cover artwork by RTU’s Pete (A.K.A. digitalfoxglove), we’re really digging it. Of course, he is a graphic designer by trade, so if it was shit we would have been pretty disappointed, but still, it’s an awesome bit of art. Anyhoo, the funky foursome are dropping a brand new track today, You And I, just in time for the final fling of the summer. Let’s get involved.

You And I is the product of four different minds, with four sets on influences, and really benefits from it. Encapsulating Ride The Universe’s funk, You And I is laid back, but never relaxed. Bringing a full-on stormer at a pace you can groove to, the tune glides along on a slightly Housey hook, replete with Ride The Universe’s trademark percussive formant synth work, all ridden by some smooth talkbox’d vocals. Did we mention the stratospheric solo from Sam in the big breakdown? It’ll push you over the edge. The most cinematic piece of Space Disco from Ride The Universe yet, these guys just get better and better.

[Audio] Strangers’ ‘Don’t Lie To Me’

strangers_thumb_thumb

Last week we wrote a little something about London SynthPoppers Strangers’ cover of Arctic Monkeys’ Why’d You Only Call Me When Your High?, a free download that we mentioned was September’s instalment in Strangers’ free-track-every-month-until-X-mas effort. That was a massive lie, because here, three days later, is September’s actual free track, Don’t Lie To Me. What can we learn from this? Strangers never sleep, that’s what.

Don’t Lie To Me is Strangers hitting going gritty. It’s a dark, sleazy tune in the tradition of the best 80s SynthPop. Pounding Industrial beats, growling bass synths and screaming drones make up the soundtrack as David delivers his vocals with an undercurrent of Dave Gahan-esque aggression. In fact, this is the most Depeche Mode-like tune from Strangers to date, and that’s no bad thing, especially as with their contemporary influences and David’s unique voice the cam take the DM sound and really make it their own.

[MP3] Hey Champ’s ‘On Holiday’

hey champ

Chicago’s greatest Electro-DiscoPop outfit Hey Champ have been steadily releasing some sweet tunes this year, which we’re hoping is a sign there might be a new album on the way. The latest track, On Holiday, is particularly poignant for us as this is electronic rumors last day posting for a week or so as we’re off on a holiday of our own.

Once again featuring the vocals of fellow Chicagoan songstress BeuKes, On Holiday is a breezy Tropical tune that speaks of good times. A big stabbing riff runs over some lush, sweeping synths and a pumping bassline while the purcussion goes into serious island mode. The vocals hazily beckon you to fun in the sun and lazy days by the pool making this one your new soundtrack to the next batch of warmer weather. Hey Champ are knocking it out of the park these days, can’t wait for more.

[Audio] Pet Shop Boys’ ‘Love Is A Bourgeois Construct’ reMixed by The Penelopes

pet-shop-boys_thumb

This week Pet Shop Boys released their new single, Love Is A Bourgeois Construct, taken from their recent Electric album. We already introduced you to the funky-as-all-hell reMix from Little Boots earlier this week, so let’s grab a listen to another reworking, this time from London based French ElectroPop duo The Penelopes.

Choosing to concentrate on, and highlight, the track’s background strings and horns brings a whole new infection to the track and pairing them with a bouncy Electro backing, fitted with chainsaw synth hooks and pumping beats, give the track a subtler dancefloor vibe to the original’s in-you-face kicks. A slick slice of ElectroPop with a baroque feel and a certain majestic quality to it. Neil’s voice has never sounded so cinematic.
