[Download] Edwin Van Cleef’s ‘Two As One’

edwin-van-cleef

New tunes from Leeds based producer Edwin Van Cleef are becoming more few and far between recently. We’d like to take this opportunity to lodge a formal complaint at this turn of events. Don’t worry yourself too much though, as we do have a shiny new tune from the man today. Two As One is already getting spins from the likes of Grum, Goldroom and Justin Faust and we’d expect to see in cropping up in a whole load of mixtapes in the coming weeks.

What you have here is a lush, involving slice of synthy Disco-House. It’s a bit Tropical, and a bit ‘waves crashing in’, but also very British. So we guess, rather than having a beach vibe, it’s more of a sea-side vibe, but like a sea-side in space, as it’s quite cosmic too with big snyth sweeps flying all over the shop. It’s a classy summer House track loaded with breezy keys and relaxed basslines. Add a couple of haunting vocal samples to the mix, alongside some hay piano and you’ve got the perfect recipe for late night summer dancing. It’s just a pity it’s the middle of winter.

[Audio] Little Jinder’s ‘Shh’

Litenjinder

Sweeden’s BassPop princess Little Jinder is back with a bran new single, and it’s something s little different. A departure from Jinder’s madcap and upbeat electronic Pop. Shh is not only a sweet, and haunting, slice of Scandinavian goodness, but it;s sung in Josefine’s native Sweedish. This one’s a real grower.

Not quite as tangibly Pop as the likes of Whatever 4ever or Won’t Look Back, Shh feels a bit more left-field, not just because of the Sweedish vocals, but the music is playfully quaint in is use of synths and vintage drums. It’s a totally engrossing single, and one that proclaims what we’ve been saying for years. Little Jinder is pretty ace really.

[Audio] Mitch Murder’s ‘Snow Crash’

mitch murder

So, every-time Sweedish SynthWave king Mitch Murder drops a new track (which is increasingly more frequent these days) we say to ourselves ‘we don’t have to write about it, we don’t have to post everything the man releases’, and then we listen to it. The same thing happened today, we thought, ‘we don’t have to post the new Mitch Murder track’, and then gave Snow Crash a listen, and then had no choice. Mitch is just head and shoulders above his contemporaries, musically, each piece from him is a work of genius. So enjoy another one.

Named after Neal Stephenson’s classic1992 Cyberpunk novel, the track also delivers a narrative. Starting of with a selection of mellow, evocative chords that weave Mitch’s soundtrack magic. Synths and sax  fade together, casting a futuristic mood over the track, before it launches into a beat heavy instrumental ElectroPop tune to capture your imagination.

[Video] Punks Jump Up’s ‘Fairlight’ video

Punks Jump Up Fairlight

Here is the video for London duo Punks Jump Up’s new tune Fairlight, which we featured last week as a free download. Which is good value really, seeing as how is one of the best tunes of the last few months.

The clip was put together by Neal Coghlan, and it’s an amazing, animated, space-age trip that visually plays on the tracks retro sounds.

[Audio] Monsieur Adi reMixes Britney Spears’ ‘Work Bitch’

britney spears

Is Monsieur Adi a Pop star yet? We were sure it was supposed to happen about now. We consulted the oracle and everything. Still What’s Going On? is released today, and it’s hotly tipped for chart dominance, so we’ll give it a week or so. In the meantime he’s doing official reMixes for Britney Spears. That’s a thing that happens when you’re a Pop star y’see.

You gotta’ give Britney credit for trying, she’s like a Pop Jack Russell trying to get at your cuppa; relentless. Also Toxic was awesome. Adi’s take on her latest single, the toe curling Work Bitch, applies his bombastic Electro to the track and is never once ashamed of going large. His rousing, cinematic, orchestration is present and correct, layered with big room synths and a nice line in boomy kicks. In anyone one else’s hand’s these huge riff and Britney vocals would have been pure cheese, but work in a little of that Adi 78-piece orchestra, and it all suddenly goes a bit epic.

[Audio] Kosheen’s ‘Harder They Fall’

Kosheen

Of the many many thing to be proud about the city of Bristol, near the top sits Kosheen. ElectroPop, Drum & Bass, Electro, Breakbeat, Trip-Hop chameleons, Kosheen have left a stunning back catalogue behind them over the last fifteen years with Sian, Mark and Darren consistently delivering quality, intelligent Dance music with soul. Cue their forthcoming fifth studio album, Solitude, and it’s lead single, Harder They Fall. Released at the end of November, Harder They Fall comes equipped with three storming reMixes, have a listen to the Radio Edit and one of the mixes right now.

Harder They Fall is both dark & haunting and a post-Rave, UK House floorfiller. It’s like Kosheen of old, driven by Sian’s smokey vocals, with a twist that would see them fitting in perfectly in summer 2013 clubland. Musically, the track is a selection of tough beats, thought House basslines and tough leads, all tempered by silky smooth production and morphed into a noir Pop song by Sian’s croon. Most of the reMixes come straight out of the Kosheen camp. Well, if you’ve got that many alter egos, why not?  Mark and Darren in their guise as Kosheen DJs deliver a rugged UK House track the loads itself with abrasive riffs swirling, spacious, synth growls but overall eschews a gritty sound in favour of  bringing a hypnotic tone to the track. The alter-ego that first brought Mark and Darren to our attention, that of Drum & Bass legends Decoder & Substance lend the single a distorted, bass heavy, Dubby vibe, with hints of Experimental and Industrial leanings. Their reMix draws you in with it’s relentless cloud of noise, pulsating synths and hammered purcussion. We would kinda’ say that Harder They Fall is a return to form for Kosheen, but honestly, they have never wavered from excellence. It is, however, an awesome single.

[Download] MiGHty mOUse edits Caro Emerald’s ‘Stuck’

Mighty Mouse

Get ready for some space-age bootleg Disco action as the mighty MiGHty mOUse takes a little break from working his arse off with Du Tonc and touring the world like a boss to deliver this cheeky little bootleg edit of Dutch singer Caro Emerald’s 2010 hit Stuck. A mainstay if his recent DJ sets, the mOUse must have decided that this one was too much fun to keep to himself. We agree.

MiGHty mOUse goes crazy with the smokey vocals and old time Jazz sound. Remember in the mid-90s when Dance acts sampling old Jazz records was a thing? Well, imagine a more Discofied version of that. MM gifts the track some storming beats and big galactic synths, making the tune a bit of a contradiction, but an amazingly funky one. You can see why he put this one together for his sets, this is a real DJ weapon. The track is available, as all bootleg edits should be, for free.

[Audio] Justin Faust’s ‘Elevator’

justin-faust

German Disco don Justin Faust is taking a break from his usual Discotexas releases to deliver something new on acclaimed New York dance label Nervous Records. This week he released a three track EP titled Disco Cuts. You can check out the first of the three cuts right here with the big, sweeping, Elevator. Elevator music this ain’t.

Also heard on this week’s new Goldroom mixtape, Elevator is a filtered Disco juggernaut. Guaranteed to please both the Nu-Disco crowd and the French Touch lot, this tune brings to the table everything you need for a dancefloor destroyer. Hypnotic Disco hooks, pumping beats, a cheeky bassline, and a ton of filtering, bringing the track it’s highs and lows. We can definitely see this being a go-to track in a lot of DJ’s crates for some time.
