I Am Noxious’s video for ‘This Is A Ballad’

After a slight battle with the technicalities of YouTube, which he documented on his Twitter feed, London’s BedroomPop rising star I Am Noxious has dropped this self-made video for his track ‘This Is A Ballad’.

Atmospheric in it’s simplicity it just goes to show that with enough vision you don’t need a budget to create something visually interesting and fitting to the music.

Other unsigned bands should take note! And everyone else should check I Am Noxious’s MySpace.

LIGHTS; new single in the UK

LIGHTS02

Every time I post about LIGHTS I feel like I should disclose certain information. ElectroPop, Keytars, Hot Girls and Canada are four of my favourite things in the world. Kinda’ makes me powerless to resist…

In her continuing battle to break the UK, LIGHTS releases her second single this side of the Atlantic, ‘Saviour’. Although the track itself is quite old (in the US at least) Owl City’s Adam Young has dropped a brand new reMix of it which is very like the original but with added Owl City sparkle and Adam’s highly AutoTuned vocals sneaking in the background.

‘Saviour’ is released in the UK on 10th May.

Soul II Soul reMixed by Monsieur Adi

SoulIISoul

I’m seriously lovin’ this! I’ve always felt that Soul II Soul’s 1989 classic ‘"Back to Life (However Do You Want Me)’ have never, ever, been given a good, proper contemporary reMix. Until now!

Italian electro-House dude Monsieur Adi has put together this awesome reMix described by the man himself as “a super clash of baroque and electro” which accounts for the harpsichord/Nu-Disco mash up that really works the original in a way that makes every previous attempt to reMix it seem, well, just lazy.

Clock Opera reMixes Marina

MarinaAndTheDiamonds06

Clock Opera really does something original and awesome with Marina And The Diamonds’ new single, the re-release of ‘I am not A Robot’.

Utilising Marina’s unique voice in a way no other reMixer has really grasped, using it as an instrument, Clock Opera weave it in and out of their piano and strings backing creating something beautiful, epic and still danceable.

Acid Washed reMixes Kelis

Kelis

Acid Washed and Kelis seem to be channelling Moroder and Summer with AW’s reMix of Kelis’ new single ‘Acapella’.

The Parisian duo get their serious arpeggio ’70’s Disco groove on here and don’t scrimp on the hand claps.

While we’re at it, check out this reMix of Kelis’ biggest hit ‘Milkshake’ by Nu-Disco outfit Night Drugs, who come up with a slick Dreamwave-esq version.

La Roux reMix I Blame Coco

IBlameCoco02

I Blame Coco A.K.A Eliot Sumner (of sister to Sting fame) has reached out to tour buddy La Roux to remix her forthcoming single ‘Self Machine’.

Is this the first La Roux reMix of another artist? I’m probably forgetting someone here but no other one springs to mind. Anyway, the track is reminiscent of ‘Quicksand’ a bit and takes be back to the summer of ‘08, which seeing as how it’s quite a summery tune, is no bad thing.

Annie Mac premiered it on her show, so check the radio rip.

HURTS début single

HURTS

‘Better Than Love’ is a fantastic choice for HURTS’s first proper single (‘Wonderful Life’ bring an EP). I think most people were expecting the Spandau Ballet-esq ‘Blood, Tears & Gold’ but this tune, actually an old Daggers (HURTS previous incarnation) song, is probably a better fit for a breakthrough single.

The coolest band (and most hyped) in ElectroPop right now need to announce themselves with heir début and ‘Better Than Love’ does exactly that. Still sounding authentically 80’s Pop, without parody or cliché. The forthcoming single is, although described by the band as “dance music for depression”, and epic, somewhat uplifting slice of retro PowerPop, (verging on the Simple Minds at times even!). As melancholic as it is it can’t help but sound anthemic with all the drama and passion of the vocals sitting atop flying arpeggios and Italo beats. If the flavour isn’t dancefloor enough for you check out German House masters Tiefschwarz’s deep and dark reMix.

It is amazing to find a band who really are living up to the hype. I absolutely cannot wait to catch these guys live in May!

Dubstar reunite for Buffetlibre/Amnesty International ‘PEACE’ project.

peace02

As part of electronic rumors continuing support for Buffetlibre DJs’ and Amnesty International’s ‘PEACE’ project, we are pleased to be able to announce that the album is now available! Described by the Buffetlibre guys as a ‘musical atlas’ the record features over 150 brand new songs by artists from over 50 countries, including some big names that will be of interest to our readers, such as: The Antlers, frYers, Gooseflesh, Jori Hulkkonen, Kissogram, Marc Almond, Marsheaux, Micro, The Neon Judgement, Patrick Wolf, The Toxic Avenger, Kid606, The Ultrasonics, Operator Please, You Love Her Coz She’s Dead, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Tesla Boy, 4hero, ASCII.Disko and Avian X…just to name a few!

Of particular interest is a brand new track by Dubstar! It seems Sarah Blackwood and the guys have put their differences aside for this good cause and recorded a cover version of Passions’ ‘I’m In Love With A German Film Star’. 2008 was the last time we had the possibility of Sarah taking time out from the wonderful Client to record new Dubstar material but things turned a little sour. If a reason to shake hands and make music was needed, then drawing attention to human rights abuses worldwide seems like a very good one.

The Buffetlibre guys have very kindly allowed electronic rumors to exclusively share this track with you lot.

It’s a lot more post-punky, shoegazey even, than I had expected, but a track the washes over you and carries you away with it. The instrumentation and vocals swirl around each other and swell toward the finale. It’s nice, as well, to hear Sarah singing in her ‘Dubstar’ voice (as opposed to her ‘Client’ voice) again, it reminds me of the early 90’s so much I can’t help but smile.

Dubstar – I’m In Love With A German Film Star (zShare) (MediaFire)

Does this mean a future for Dubstar? Who can tell.

You can choose to pay between €5 and €25 for the album, which for 180 tracks and artwork is a cracking deal, and the collected money will be used for Amnesty International’s investigation and action campaigns aimed at preventing cases of Human Rights abuses around the world.

Fantastic cause, Fantastic album, just listen to the stream here.

‘PEACE’ is out right now, head on over to Buffetlibre’s site to grab a copy and make your donations!

Motorboater!

Mototboater

Motorboater! A.K.A. Dan Eaton a solo artist making some deep, intricate digital Pop. has just released his ‘P/U YR Heart’ EP.

No to be mistaken for Bedroom Pop it, there is more going on here. Sure some tracks are quaint, almost Folktronica jams, but other tracks soar like Dreamwave floorfillers.

Check these two tracks from the EP, the retro synth space Disco of ‘Semifinalist’ and the glitchy energy of ‘Seeing Things’, two pretty different tracks but with an underlying sound that unites them.

Marina: not a (L.A.) robot!

Not actually a new video, but surprisingly well timed for the re-release (or first proper release) of ‘I Am not A Robot’, the video we have here will make up part of the visuals for Marina And The Diamonds forthcoming UK tour. Filmed on Hollywood Boulevard, it actually makes quite a nice promo clip.

‘I Am Not A Robot’ is out 26th April.
