New from Flash Arnold

Flash Arnold

Here’s the latest tune from SynthWave producer Finnish Flash Arnold. After a series of top quality 80’s soundtrack-esque tracks, this new tunes shows a maturity and evolution to his sound.

The Streets Of Metropolis moves Flash Arnold away from the typical SynthWave/Outrun sound an into an entirely Poppier arena. Whilst still holding on to some of Synthases elements, most notably the Italo side of things, The Streets Of Metropolis has more in common with mid-80s Instrumental Pop that it;s night driving peers. Evoking a flavour of the more Poppy Jean Michel-Jarre, or Paul Hardcastle, Flash Arnold’s arpeggiated basslines and big stabbed chords give the track a solid Italo backing with two of our favourite things in the world, Orchestral hits and mind blowing, soaring, synth soloing more than enough icing on the cake. Flash Arnold has just stepped up his game. Pay attention.

Flight Facilities reMix Miike Snow

Miike Snow

We’re not quite as Flight Facilities mad as the rest of the world seems to be, we like them a lot but feel they tend to be a bit hit and miss, but when they hit the really do hit. and this track hits. Which is all the more odd to find out that this reMix for Miike Snow’s last single, The Wave, was finished back in May and FF never heard back about it, to this day they don’t know if they missed the deadline, or it was rejected, or what?

If it was rejected then Miike Snow’s label are idiots, this is a stunning peice of deep Disco. Everything about it is so understated, which makes the whole more impressive. Driven by a deep deep bassline and subtly piano (no crashing 90’s House riffs here), the reMix keeps the original song intact, but draws it to a laid back place of steady groove. The music is just the right side of bombastic to highlight in seriousness of the lyrics, but keeping things funky as hell.

Russ Chimes’ ‘Back 2 You’

russ-chimes

It was back in May that we featured a radio rip of Russ Chimes’ forthcoming new single, Back 2 You, when it was given a first play on Pete Tong’s Radio 1 show. We were as excited by it back then as we are now. Moreso now as the single has a release date, and we can now check out the song proper.

Long-time readers will know that Mr. Chimes is a bit of a goldenboy round these parts. He’s walked home (figuratively, of course) with a few electronic rumors end of year awards over the years and so far, in our eyes, has yet to do wrong. And with the release of Back 2 You, that line is unbroken. Constantly moving and evolving his sound, Back 2 You sees Russ delivering a big House track with an underlying Disco groove. A pulsating Chicago style bassline underpins the track, creating a core for Russ’ trademark densely layered production to lay out big stabs, an anthemic vocal sample, those big drum fills we love Russ for and even some ChipTune riffage. Sounds like a lot? Well, Chimes fits everything into place with an effortless talent for big tunes. Last time we visited this track we commented “This is how you make dance music.” Seriously, this is how you make dance music.

New tune from Bit Funk

bit-funk

This new jam from Brooklyn based producer Bit Funk is everything a summery Disco-House tune should be. Not only does it work in just the right elements for a good-times-in-the-sun track, but it captures just the right mood, without feeling forced. Partying in the sun this weekend, let this be your soundtrack.

Probably the most Housey thing Bit Funk has released, It’s My Love rides on a deep Chicago bassline, a body shaking groove that plays to the summer party vibe perfectly. Bit Funk keeps the energy levels high with a rapturous 90’s House piano hook to compliment the diva vocal samples, and just the right among of Disco licks to nod to his roots. The track’s got a bit of a shuffle to it, and is actually quite Bristol House, but then again I would say that…

The Knocks & Fred Falke’s ‘Geronimo’ video

Boom! That’s the sound of one of the biggest tunes of the year, The Knocks & Fred Falke’s Geronimo, getting a video.

Director Daniel Pappas captures some pretty stunning footage here,. The premise is pretty simple, nut the cinematography is very nice indeed.

Geronimo is out now on Beatport and available everywhere else on 23rd July.

Joy Division reMixed by Christian Strobe

Joy Division

Generally, going anywhere near Post-Punk icons Joy Division with your reMixing intentions is a very brave, and normally doomed, move. Having a crack at Love Will Tear Us Apart seems like a bit of a futile move. Christian Strobe, however, puts in a valiant effort that deserves, at the very least, recognition.

The German producer’s take on the classic drops a bit of a Tropical and a bit of a Balearic sound into the mix. Which, admittedly, isn’t the first vibe we think of when we consider Joy Division. But Strobe seems to make it work, the big room House tone actually flows reasonable well with the song. Strobe even makes the chorus pretty euphoric. Despite being a match made in hell, the Christian Strobe reMix of Love Will Tear Us Apart works, it shouldn’t, but it does. I guess that just something we’re all going to have to live with from now on.

New Cassette Club single reMixed by Ben Macklin

Cassette Club

London based Disco producer, and one half of releasers of the excellent 4 Me, Cassette Club, Ben Macklin, stopped by the electronic rumors Inbox with some awesome news. Cassette Club are gearing up for the release of a brand new single. The track is called Flash, and Mr. Macklin delivers a pumping reMix.

Macklin’s mix of Flash is a five minutes of nostalgic bliss. From the tracks opening the buzzing synths and shuffling beat the tone is set. Carefree ElectroPop with a sprinkling of Disco washes out of the speakers. Synths evolve and build around a ‘80’s Synth Pop flavour bassline to a euphoric point where things get almost Balearic. A hint of the original’s impassioned vocals drifting across the track and the cowbell fills give the track a bit of a beach part vibe. A beach party…at sunset….in the mid-‘80’s. Right now I can’t thing of anywhere I’d rather be. Definitely looking forward to this release.

Cassette Club – Flash (Ben Macklin reMix)

Cassette Club’s Flash is released 13th August on Modal.
