Jupiter’s reMix of Sébastien Tellier’s ‘Cochon Ville’

Sébastien Tellier

French DiscoPop duo of the moment Jupiter made themselves a little DJ friendly version of fellow Frenchman Sébastien Tellier’s awesome current single ‘Cochon Ville’ for their last mixtape. Now they have released it, for free, in it’s entirety.

Jupiter’s version is a slick rolling Disco edit of the track. Ripe for the dancefloor Jupiter highlight that undulating Disco bassline. Stripping back the tune to it’s most basic Disco elements and the drawing them out over five minutes. With a particularly tension inducing build over the first half of the track until it drops you right into the heart of the song, this is definitely the mix to drop in the middle of the night.

‘Cochon Ville’ is the first single taken from Sébastien Tellier‘s new album ‘My God Is Blue’ available now via Record Makers.

Daroc’s ‘Wonder’

daroc

One of France’s best kept SynthWave secrets Daroc is proving that after his long absence his recent ‘Destination’ EP wasn’t a one off. He’s back for good and gearing up to be part of brand new release. ‘Additional Wonders’, a collection of 12 artists reMixing and covering classic tracks from French noisemongers WAT.

Taken from that record is his new song, a cover of ‘Wonder’, I’m guessing the lead track, and it’s truly beautiful. Transcending Disco or SynthWave, even ElectroPop, it’s distant, passionate, vocals hovers ethereally over otherworldly melodic synthwork. This is no dancefloor banger, this is Dreamwave for the mind. transporting the listener to distant planets of sound with cosmic pads and almost baroque keys and a vocal line that lends itself to the epicness and brings a slightly Bowie-esque quality in the second half of the track. This sounds like an  intro, at least that’s what it feels like from an audio narrative point of view, or an interlude. Whichever, it makes us excited to hear the rest of the album.

Karin Park & Ladytron

Karin Park

Following last years ‘Tiger Dreams’ EP Karin Park has announced the release of her new album ‘Highwire Poetry’ next month, kicking things off with this lead-in, crazy good single ‘Restless’.

Her PR likes to call Karin ‘Electro-Goth’, really, take it from me, she’s not, not in the slightest, she is so far above that if she looked down she could barely see the tiny Electro-Goths running around like ants. What Karin actually is, is an incredible talented, interesting, unique ElectroPop artist who makes songs that are equally quirky, emotionally resonant and catchy. ‘Restless’ is one of those songs, a rousing, majestic slice of Icy Scandinavian analog Pop with an infections synth line and impassioned vocals. the single has been reMixes by Ladytron’s Reuben Wu, who apparently heard the track live and ran with it. Ruben delivers something surprisingly funky considering Ladytron’s recent work. recalling Ladytron of old, it’s a raw synth-fest that revels in Rubens electronic genius with layers and layers of sonic elements. Prefer the original though….

Mr. Mæn’s ‘Just Don’t Turn It Off’

mr-mn

Norwegian producer of fine Synth & Disco Mr. Mæn is back with a brand new track, and this time he’s getting his SynthWave on. Mr. Mæn is showing us there’s versatility in there as well as talent.

So, keeping the faith with the current trend in SynthWave to push their Italo basslines so hard they boarder on EBM, Mæn powers ‘Just Don’t Turn It Off’ along with machine gun arpeggio basslines that are counterbalanced nicely with an almost baroque harpsichord sound that really sets the tone. a Driving, cinematic track, ‘Just Don’t Turn It Off’ hits the ground running and carries you along through and exciting, emotional, dramatic set peice. This track is all about the mounting tension, played out on vintage synths and beats. Mr. Mæn’s got the sound once more.

Queen Of Hearts reMixed by Ghost Beach

queen-of-hearts1

Queen Of Hearts continues the promotional juggernaut for her latest single, ‘Neon’, with this new reMix by New York Tropical Popsters  Ghost Beach. Actually, that sounds like PR hyperbole , which I kinda’ hate, so I’ll rephrase. It’s not a promotional juggernaut, it’s more like Queen Of Hearts slipping you a new reMix under the table each week and telling you “send you friends to me, I’ve got the good shit” with a wink.

Ghost Beach go all raw electronic IndiePop with the track. It’s organised chaos, a synthetic wall of sound that boarders on Shoegaze at times. With Industrial overtones held in check only be the bassline it’s a new sound for a Queen Of Hearts track and the juxtaposition between the raucous New York Indie-Electro and Liz’s silky smooth vocals makes a compelling combination. Also fresh from the Queen is this ‘The Neon Queen Mixtape’ a pretty inspired collection of many of the most interesting female artists around (and a couple of dudes). To be honest if someone asked me to make a female oriented ElectroPop mixtape I don;t think I could have come up with a better tracklist. Stick around ‘til the end, there’s a cheeky preview of a brand new Queen Of Heart’s track.

Bright Light Bright Light new single, new reMix, new competition

Bright Light Bright Light

Next week sees the release of the new single from Welsh ElectroPop sensation Bright Light Bright Light. Long time readers will know we’ve been following Rod’s career since the ‘olden days’, in the last two years he’s released some of the biggest, slickest, ElectroPop tracks out there. Every one of BLx2’s tracks to date have been modern classics, each one addictively catchy, and each one increasingly indulging Rod’s love of all things ‘90’s.

And ‘Waiting For The Feeling’ revels in it’s retro-ness. From it’s Darude-esque bass riff to the big Piano House riff, that could have come straight off MTV Europe circa 1994, it’s a celebration of the ‘90’s. A celebration of classic songwriting too, Rod’s vocal chops and his ability to write perfect Pop hook both shine through in the single, you’ll be humming it for days. Bright Light Bright Light’s love of the ‘90’s culminates in the reMix package for ‘Waiting For The Feeling’, it’s like a collection of all the names you found in the reMix credits on singles in the back then, I didn’t even know these people were still alive! K Klass put in an appearance. K Klass! Apparently they are still around and knocking out pretty awesome reMixes from the sound of their deep, almost tribal mix. And Trouser Enthusiasts! His reMix, which we are exclusively premièring below, is his first in a decade. Trouser Enthusiasts work for the likes of Sunscreem (Particularly), Saint Etienne and Pet Shop Boys we’re big parts of my life during that period, it really is awesome that Rod got him back in the studio to work on this. He’s lost none of his his flair, the mix is actually pretty ‘Trouser Enthusiasts’ (if that makes sense) but, despite being heavily ‘90’s sounding, really doesn’t sound dated. Massive and majestic, this reMix hopefully sees a return to production for Trouser Enthusiasts. A single this catchy will surely get Bright Light Bright Light the attention he deserves so much.

iamamiwhoami’s ‘Idle Talk’ video

‘Idle Talk’ is the lasted video from Scandinavian electronic ice-queen iamamiwhoami.

In true iamamiwhoami style the video (kinda’) carries on from the last, ‘In Due Order’. The track is a much smoother side to iamamiwhoami, nice spacey ScaniPop.

The ‘Good Worker’, ‘Drops’ and ‘Server’ singles are out now.

Nyteowl ‘Love Of Mine’ video

We had a listen to the MiGHty mOUse reMix of  Nyteowl’s forthcoming new single ‘Love of Mine’ loast month. the single has been pushed back to the end of April, so that give us a chance to check out the new video for the track.

Directed by Erin Michelle Vassilopoulos and Raechel Bosch and it’s generally pretty unsettling. Luckily that is soothed by the sweet analog DiscoPop of the track. With reMixes from Boy 8-Bit, Brassica and Hyboid as well it should be an awesome release.

Nyteowl ‘Love Of Mine’ is released 30th April on Juno’s new label, Love Interest
