[Audio] Ben Macklin’s ‘Make Me Feel’ (+ Nude Disco reMix)

ben-macklin

Make Me Feel is the new single from Cassette Clubber Ben Macklin. Released this week the single features the vocal stylings of Rowan Arnold and comes equipped with reMixes from Tronik Youth, Nude Disco & Culture Culture. On your first listen you’ll instantly realise why Ben is one of our favourite British producers working right now. Check it out.

Neatly blending Tropical vibes and a slick retro SynthPop flavour, Make Me Feel is a nice mid-paced jam that would sit equally at home on by the poolside or on Top Of The Pops in 1986. With elements of Synth Soul, particularly in the bassline and vocals and an uplifting Island Disco chorus, it’s a track that will force a smile onto your face. Nude Disco ups the tempo a tad whist keeping the retro groove, injecting punchy snyths and an array sweeping club hooks. Covering everything from Italo to Nu-Disco via ElectroPop, the single package is strong as hell, you should definitely investigate.

[Audio] Say Lou Lou’s ‘Everything We Touch’

say-lou-lou

Here’s the new single from Australian/Swedish sisters Say Lou Lou. Everything We Touch is taken from their forthcoming début album, due out later this year and follows the likes of Better In The Dark, Julian and Maybe You in leading us to believe this could be one of the big Pop albums of the year.

Anthemic and bombastic, as with all of Say Lou Lou’s singles Everything We Touch follows the formula of ethereal, floaty verses and massive sing-a-long choruses. With just the right amount of ScandiPop, layered pulsating synths and rousing, tribal, drums power the track along, giving a platform for the sisters stadium vocals.

[Audio] Eats Everything reMixes Disclosure & Mary J. Blige’s ‘F For You’

disclosure-mary-j-blige-f-for-you

Bristolian House powerhouse Eats Everything has delivered this deep and compelling reMix of the Mary J. Blige featuring version of Disclosure’s F For You. Appearing on the forthcoming single of the track, Eats Everything reMix takes the track into deep and hypnotic territories. The weekend really does start here.

At an epic seven minutes, Eats Everything’s reworking of F For You strips the track back to it’s bare essentials. Even Mary J. Blige’s vocals are minimalized to the point of being just another inurement as Bristol’s biggest House export right now slowly builds up an irresistible groove of shuffling beats and Chicago stabs. Stick around of the bizarrely gentle piano breakdown to mix things up a little before the tune crashed back into dancefloor euphoria.

[Audio] Ronika’s ‘Shell Shocked’

Ronika

Our girl Ronika has finally announced her long long long awaited forthcoming début album. Spoiler alert: it’s awesome. We shouldn’t really say any more at this point, but it’s easily going to be one of the highlights of the year. It’s titled, Selectadisc, after the Notts record shop, and Ron’s giving you lot a taste of what’s to expect in the form of album track Shell Shocked. Check it out.

Shell Shocked is what Ronika does best. A slightly Disco-y blend of Pop and Electro Boogie that’s deceptively complex and insanely catchy. One of the emotional highs of the album, Shell Shocked delivers some spine tingling 80s Power Pop moments amid a sea of thick synth bassed vintage Funk. With the epicness of an 80s movie soundtrack and the street groove of Electro Soul, Shell Shocked is a fine primer for what’s to come. Believe us, this is the year Ron blows up.

Metronomy

Devon Indie-ElectroPopsters Metronomy’s new album Love Letters is released today and in a surprise turn of events, the title track and lead single has been reMixed by Belgian Electro masters Soulwax. It’s the first new Soulwax track for quite a while and this six and a half minute epic certainly doesn’t disappoint.

Leading with a chugging riff, Soulwax deliver a fresh slice of their classic sound. This is pure Soulwax. Undulating, slightly Acidic, abrasive synths repeat throughout the track, slowly building to crescendo. With an EBM quality to it, that never detracts from the soulfulness of the use of the original, this reMix delivers a never ending juggernaut of snyth goodness, with a few surprises in the mix to boot.

[Audio] Hemingway’s ‘Chew’

hemingway

Torontonians sure do like their Disco ecclectic and experimental. One of the city’s biggest proponents of funky wizardry is Hemingway, who has just released the track Chew as part of the compilation album Amicus Curiae 2014. I hope you’ve got your intelligent listening hat on, ‘cos this one goes a bit freestyle.

Pairing popping Sci-Fi synths, with jazzy muted trumpet and a shuffling rhythm, Hemingway mixes up resounding Synth Funk with smokey Jazz to retro future effect. Utilising an infectious slo-mo Disco groove to draw you in, Hemmingway slip in an out of backroom freeform and Cosmic madness with relative ease, creating a mood of unexpected delights. The sound pallet alone bears repeated listening.
