[Audio] Modern’s ‘Terrestrial’

Moderns

Earlier this month we unveiled he new tune from LA Dreamwave master Let Em Riot; buy while that’s been going on, the other project, Moderns is still ticking over. They’ve just released a brand new single titled Terrestrial. This one sees relative newcomer Rosie taking up full vocal duties and a shift from the retro nostalgia of past releases to something that boarders on SynthRock. Check it out below.

Rosie’s voice sound super powerful on this one (and not unlike Annette Strean from Venus Hum in places) as she belts out a huge tune set to hammerfall kicks and buzzing arpeggios. The song is majestic and bombastic in a way that previous offerings weren’t; it’s a tightrope to walk as more introspective, personal productions give way to epics. Earlier Dreamwave based production seems to have given way to this new stadium sound, but as long as they don’t add in some rockin’ guitars we’re all good.

Pawws

North-London’s ElectroPop songstress Pawws is back on the scene, following up on her awesome Sugar EP of last year. She’s got a brand new track in the offing, this one comes courtesy of Kitsuné Music’s latest compilation album, Kitsuné New Faces II, released later this month. Welcome back Lucy Taylor’s particularly enchanting brand of sweet SynthPop with Turnaround.

The track launches with some particularly 80s synths before pairing them with a quaint 60s vibe, a-la Saint Etienne. Both bittersweet and tongue-in-cheek, Pawws presents a decidedly British taken on ElectroPop whilst delivering something with universal appeal. Sparkling leads and waves of warm synths form a lilting backing for Lucy’s introspective and relatable vocal. She’s working on her début album right now, we can’t wait.

[Audio] Róisín Murphy’s ‘Gone Fishing’

Roisin Murphy

Avant-Disco-Pop queen Róisín Murphy has announced the forthcoming release of her fist full length record in eight years. Yup, Overpowered was eight years ago! Surely that can’t be right? The new album is titled Hairless Toys and is due out next month. Check out the first single from the record, Gone Fishing, below.

The former Moloko singer serves up a typically ecclectic tune on Gone Fishing. From the purcussion to the layers of synth burbling, everything is meticulously crafted. Part experimental soundtrack, part mid-90s freeform Disco groover, Gone Fishing surprises at every turn in both it’s compelling funkiness and it’s mysterious depth. Ms Murphy’s vocals are as striking as ever and seem to draw you into the track. This all bodes very well for the album.

Keljet keep things fun and tropical with this mix. Dragging the tune to the dancefloor Keljet drop solid Disco beats liberally peppered with smile inducing Island leads over pulsating synth bass. This is a pure no trouble track. Carefree and breezy, Keljet bring nothing but good times on their reMix. How could anyone not be in a good mood after rocking to this?

[Audio] Allies For Everyone’s ‘Bunker’

Allies For Everyone

New York based producer Brian Suarez, better know as Allies For Everyone is releasing his brand new EP this week. Titled Bunker, the release is a departure from his Housier works into something a little more emotive and mature. Check out the EP’s lead track below and keep an eye out for the release coming up on KID Recordings.

Making an immediate, sweeping, generalisation; Bunker sounds like Maya Jane Coles meets Dirty Vegas. Generalisation that may be, but it’s also a massive compliment. The track rides on an undulating and mysterious Deep House groove while Suarez croons and brushed an acoustic guitar over the top for a little Balearic flavour. Nice, emotional and irresistible groovy stuff.

[Audio] Avan Lava’s ‘Leave It All Behind’

Avan Lava

Brooklyn trio Avan Lava have a new single out this week. Leave It All Behind sees the outfit drive their sound further toward the dancefloor with Funky and Deep House influences on the ElectroPop vibe. The track is taken from their forthcoming Make It Real EP, due out next month on JD Samson’s label Atlas Chair, and should see these three getting some well deserved attention as the cross both the dancefloor and the mainstream.

Leave It All Behind, seemingly effortlessly, straddles the worlds of Deep/Tech House and ElectroPop. underpinning the whole affair is a rumbling, robotic groove loaded with shuffling hats and warping subs coupled with an echoing lead line. This is all pretty enchanting, but is made even better with TC Milan’s rousing and emotional vocal. An all round instant floorfiller with an epic build.

[Audio] Aashton’s ‘Humans’

Aashton

Brightonian ex-:kinema: groover Aashton has a new single due out in March. Since leaving :kinema: promising Synth Funkers that they were, Dom has been carving out a solid reputation for himself as a bringer of luscious House sounds that never fail to enchant and uplift. His new tune, Humans, is released on Phonetic Recordings back with another couple of originals. Dive in and loose yourself.

Humans draws from the history of Chicago and blends that into some contemporary UK Deep House sounds. A lilting retain of “the people…” give the tune a festival vibe while the punchy, subby bass and rolling rhythms keep it locked to the dancefloor. A warm and inviting track that you could totally get lost in in a field with a few thousand other revellers. Intoxicating stuff.

[Audio] Karin Park & Pandora Drive’s ‘Hurricane’ (+ Maya Jane Coles reMix)

Karin-Park

One of the best things going on in Scandinavia these days, the amazing Karin Park has teamed up with London duo Pandora Drive for her new single Hurricane. Karin has been drip feeding us hint of her forthcoming new album for a while now, and while we’re not certain if this particular collaboration will appear on the full lengther, it;s more indication that we love her recent sounds. there’s a full reMix package to from Booka Shade and Karin’s buddy Maya Jane Coles.

Karin’s collaborations with MJC are obviously wearing off on her. In fact Hurricane could have quite easily been taken from Maya’s Comfort album (on which Karin appeared) but with an added Indie-Electro sparkle.. It’s a good sound for Park, the warn and mysterious experimental take on Deep House provides the perfect dark and brooking, yet unbelievably dancefloor friendly, backing for her knife sharp vocals. Maya Jane Cole’s own reMix ups the hypnotic magic groove ante considerable. The pairing of Maya’s music and Karin’s vocal is always something we really enjoy and this reMix delivers in heaps.
