Eli & Fur

Time for some Deep House upon Deep House vibes right about now. London dancefloor duo Eli & Fur recently released their first proper EP, Illusions. A spacious collection of haunting vocal Deep House tunes, one of which, You’re So High, has been given a warehouse overhaul by acclaimed Irish producer Ejeca. The result is captivating.

Ejeca takes those seductive vocals and weaves them into a tapestry of growling Chicago sounds and booming bass-heavy club grooves. A track you can totally get lost in on the dancefloor, this one’ll keep you mesmerized by the strobe light as Ejeca swirls Rave leads, House stings, and a deep, compelling bassline around your head. The whole of Eli & Fur’s Illusions EP is pretty innovative Deep House with a personal, human twist and this reMix from Ejeca is the icing on the cake. Get involved.

[Audio] Estate reMix Gossip Culture’s ‘Waiting’

Gossip Culture

In the mood for a little sunkissed Synth Funk? Well, you’ve come to the right place. This is groove-merchants Estate’s reMix of Ryan Sheridan A.K.A. Gossip Culture’s Waiting. Waiting is Gossip Culture’s latest single and features the smooth vocals of Quincy McCrary, which Estate utilise to full effect.

The original of the tune is a uplifting Indie/Disco hybrid that was a little too guitar drenched for out tastes, but this mix shrugs off the six strings in favour of luscious, thick, electronic bass and twisting synth sparkles. Although they are still present, the wicked licks are consigned to be extras, taking a back seat to retro Electro groove and McCrary soulful vocals. Pure sunshine in a tune, this is one infectious slice of daytime Disco that’ll have you bobbing down the street.

[Video] Capital X’s ‘Superleague XXX 666’

SUPERLEAGUE XXX 666 YouTube

Superleague XXX 666 is the raucous new single from UK ElectroPunks Capital X. A borderline Electroclash tune that wouldn’t have been out of place on 2002’s coolest dancefloors. A massive, energetic, slab of electronic nostalgia right here.

Check out the video, which is as early 2000’s as the track. Seeing as how no-one is really doing this shtick anymore, these girls have a nice little niche for themselves, and one that definitely puts a smile on our faces.

[MP3] Goldroom covers Elliot Smith’s ‘St. Ides Heaven’

Goldroom

So, kicking off this article professing our ignorance. We have no idea who Elliot Smith is. Maybe it’s a being-from-the-UK thing and he never really made it over here, we don’t know, it doesn’t happen to us much. One person who is very much aware of Elliot Smith, though, is Josh from Goldroom, who cites him as one of his songwriting idols, and anyone who led Josh to the kind of songwriting he has crafted for NightWaves and Goldroom is OK by us.

Goldroom have covered Elliot Smith’s tune, St. Ides Heaven, launching into the track with shuffling purcussion and bring arpeggios, which seems odd in comparison to the slightly sombre acoustic folk of the original (yes, we did some research!), but Goldroom just make it work as they make the song their own. Taking an obviously emotionally charged song and weaving it int his trademark mix of LA sunshine House and Sea-faring Disco, Goldroom delivers a real rush of a track, letting the music balance the passion of the vocals. Goldroom have a new EP, Embrace, out in November and are embarking on a US tour to bring the EP to the masses, including a very special show on 8th November at the Glass House in California with out very own Let Em Riot! Find Goldroom’s tour dates here.

[Audio] Cabaret Voltaire’s ‘#8385’

Cabaret Voltaire

We don’t tend to make much of a secret of our love for Sheffield Electronic Music pioneers Cabaret Voltaire. They’ve been one of our favourite artists for as long as we can remember and their myriad forms have always been an influence on us. They’ve been few quite a few music changes, experimenting with new styles and taking on new influences and whist we love their harsh experimental beginnings and the deep House influenced later work, the mid-80s era of Cabaret Voltaire is ‘our’ Cabs, the Cabs we grew up with.

Continuing Mute Records series of re-issues, Cabaret Voltaire are set to release the box set #8385 (Collected Works 1984-1985). this is a pretty exciting collection, featuring remastered editions of The Crackdown (1983), Micro-Phonies (1984), Drinking Gasoline (1985) and The Covenant, The Sword And The Arm Of The Lord (1985), some of The Cabs greatest works. Also contained in the package is a CD of Cabaret Voltaire’s 12” of the period and a CD of unreleased material, titled Earthshaker, alongside two DVDs featuring a couple of live shows, the promo videos from the time and the long awaited DVD release of 1985 VHS tape Gasoline In Your Eye. That’s not all, there’s also included a 40-page booklet and some slick packaging. This is a seriously essential purchase for Cabaret Voltaire fans and for anyone interested in the history of electronic music.

[Audio] Donna Summer reMixed by Chromeo & Oliver and Giorgio Moroder

donna-summer

Love To Love You Donna is the title of a forthcoming reMix album that pays tribute to Disco diva legend Donna Summer. Release in October, the album holds twelve tracks that place Summers instantly recognisable vocals in the hands of the likes of Hot Chip, Frankie Knuckles and Eric Kupper, along side these two gems from a team-up between Chromeo & Oliver and Summer’s long-time production partner, and legend in his own right, Giorgio Moroder.

Chromeo & Oliver seems like a Synth Funk match made in heaven and their reMix of Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger) really delivers the goods. Serving up a heady rush of murderous synth bass and big warping chords that is so perfectly paired with Summer’s big 80s vocals that you’d swear it was always supposed to sound like this. Add in a little of Chromeo’s talk-box warbling and you have a massive DiscoPop hit for the summer. this track draws on such a pool of talent coming together that is was destined to be nothing short of amazing. In what seems like a fitting choice, Giorgio Moroder has turned in a reMix of a track he originally co-wrote, the classic Love To Love You Baby. The Disco and Italo god recent played the track out during a DJ set at the Way Out West in Gothenburg, Sweden (after completing it on the plane over) so we can get a taste of how the track will sound. It sounds like we’re in for a full-on sounding Moroder tune with a seriously Italo groove. the album is shaping up to be a definite purchase.

[MP3] Touch Tone reMixes Xylos’ ‘Summerlong’

Xylos

Master of the LA Robo-Boogie Touch Tone is back with a brand new track in the form of this slick reMix. The subject of Touch Tone’s machinations this time is Brooklyn based bombastic Indie-ElectroPoppers Xylos and their breezy tune Summerlong.

Eschewing the raucous synths and wall-of-sound guitars of the original for something a little more poolside, Touch Tone whips up a pulsating summery Disco House tune to bounce you into the weekend. Folding in a little Tropical shimmy, a little Chicago warehouse vibe in the bassline department and a jump-up piano hook that straddles the line between House and Indie Touch Tone serves up an infectious daytime jam that you can’t help but move to. So just keep moving, you know you want to.

[MP3] Night Drive’s ‘Sea Of Light’ (+ Treasure Fingers reMix)

Night Drive

Here’s the new one from Austin based SynthWavePop duo Night Drive. Their second single, following June’s Drones, Sea Of Light sees the duo take on a much more commercial Indie-Electro sound, quite a way divorced from the Dreamwave of their début. The single comes packaged with a top collection of reMixes from names like Justin Faust, Elektromekanik, Kulkid and Treasure Fingers.

Sea Of Light is all about the big, Stargate-esque, early 2000’s synth riffs and gangly summery Indie guitar riffs. Having more in common with the likes of like Van She than Miami Nights 1984, Sea Of Light is perfectly primed to explode as a summery hit. This is one for good times with good friends. The mighty Treasure Finger’s take on the track is a deep sweeping Disco groover. A bass heavy, funk fuelled, robotic floorfiller. With a nice, laid back, tempo, this mix still makes you want to move, but it;s quite chilled about it.

[Audio] Queen Of Hearts’ ‘Secret’

Queen Of Hearts

Y’know, we were just wondering the other day when we’d next be treated to a taste of Queen Of Hearts’ forthcoming new album, and here we are. Once again Devil’s Gun takes up the production reins on Secret, due out next month, and the two of them deliver exactly what we’ve been waiting for. I guess this one song will have to tide us over until the LP drops.

Secret is amongst the Poppiest of Queen Of Hearts’ work, and that probably quite an odd thing to say about a Pop artist but a bulk of the Queen’s tunes (like all the best Pop music) has had a certain melancholy to it, whereas Secret is pure summertime vibes. Devil’s Gun turn things up to 11 with big beats, chainsaw synths and a nice use of The Art Of Noise style sampling, but it really is Queen Of Hearts who steals the show here, bringing a pitch perfect Pop chorus that dominates the tune and’ll be stuck in your head for the rest of the day. Album now please.
