[Download] Earl Grey reMixes Iñigo & Kamizi’s ‘Foreplay’

You know when Earl Grey drops a new tune that you have to prepare your ears for something a little different, a little interesting, and it’s no different with his latest tune. It’s a reMix of Mexicans Iñigo & Kamizi’s forthoming single Foreplay, and it mines the depth of early Futurist SynthPop and 80s space-age Italo to deliver an enigmatic synthetic groove with nods to B-boy Electro.

Through the tune there’s a strain of distorted vocals that would have sat quite nicely on some mid-80s EBM, but the rest of the tune delivers an amalgamation of post-Kraftwerkian dance music. Taking in everything from a early Bronx beat to an epic Italo arpeggio line, this truly is a tune for connoisseurs of electronic music and one that highlights Earl Grey as a standout producer amongst his peers. Oh, did we mention it’s damn funky too, in a lonely broken robot kinda’ way.

[Audio] Crazy P’s ‘Burning’

London based Disco collective Crazy P have a new record coming out next month on Bristol’s own Futureboogie imprint. The four track MTS Vol. 2 EP looks like it;s going to be pretty amazing if the first track to break ground is any indication. Burning premièred this week over on Mixmag and we can’t stop listening to it. Bring on the EP!

Burning seems like a strange beast but it all perfectly makes sense. A stripped down slab of synthetic Disco, a heavyweight Robo-Funk groove with a hypnotic hook. But more than that, the melding of Acid burbling and electronic Disco is something we’ve been saying we need to hear more of for a while now, and Cray P have nailed it with Burning, rolling from sweet retro funk to 303-esque House riffs with an effortless cool. We’re definitely interested to hear the rest of the EP.

[Video] Pixel Memory’s ‘Night Colors (ROYGBIV Mix)’

Here we have the new video from Pixel Memory. It’s for Night Colors (ROYGBIV Mix), a reworking of one of their songs from last year. A pulsating ElectroPop, more robotic, version of the tune.

With video effects coming courtesy of Etcher/Engraver, the video let’s loose with a retro flavour and a projected, hypnotic, quality.

[Audio] Katy B’s ‘I Like You’

Katy B’s pretty incredible new single, 5am, was finally sees it’s pushed back release at the beginning of next month., coming equipped with this storming club track as it’s B-side. I Like You sees Katy teaming up with German melodic House producer, HotFlush’s George FitzGerald, to mix up her sultry vocals with some tough beats.

I Like You delivers truck loads of pulsating dancefloor groves and dirty, buzzsaw synths that provides a nice counterpoint to Katy’s husky, but sweet, vocals. This is definitely a late night jam, smokey and grinding. Slightly left-field but with a solid core in both club music and Pop. Everything we’ve heard from Katy’s forthcoming sophomore album, Little Red, so far has been pretty special and I Like You just adds to that impression. The follow up to a début is always tricky, but Katy B seems to have nailed it. We’re looking forward to hearing more.

[Audio] Holy Ghost! reMixes RAC, MNDR & Kele’s ‘Let Go’

In all honesty we just weren’t that keen on RAC’s, MNDR and Kele featuring, Let Go, in fact much of their output ever since they transformed from reMixers extraordinaire to major label Indie-Pop outfit has fallen a bit flat in our opinion, it;s not bad, it’s just not particularly inspired. Being big fans of MNDR, we really wanted to love Let Go, we just weren’t feeling it. However, we very much are feeling this reMix of the tune from New Your Indie-ElectroPop heroes Holy Ghost!, so there’s always that. I wonder if RAC know that the RAC is actually a thing in the UK, like the AA.

So, Holy Ghost! do what Holy Ghost! do best, injecting the track with a ton of their raw synth Disco. Twisting analog lead lines and thick, bouncing bass permeate every second of the track. MNDR’s vocals in particular fit beautifully with Holy Ghosts! NYC groove, moreso than in the original, we’d absolutely love to hear more of a Holy Ghost!/MNDR collaboration. The result here is a smooth and breezy, but definitely urban, slice of synthesizer funk, heave and robust, that’s as playful as it is pumping.

You may recall, at the start of the month we let you know about a great new compilation from a great new record label. Nude Disco is now one of London’s top club nights, a production outfit AND a record label and to kick off their label venture they self-released the Nude Disco Selections Vol. 1 compilation album. That Nude Disco & Friends record is now getting a general release with the Beatport edition coming with three exclusive tracks, the most exciting coming from Kill Me Softly, a collaboration between Nude Disco’s Vern, Dirty Vegas’ Paul Harris and our very own Jane Elizabeth Hanley from Kids At Midnight.

Catch is a bright, sparkling, Poppy Nu-Disco track. Prepare yourself for one of those choruses that’ll be stuck in your head for the rest of the week. Thick with a sweet pumping bass and a broad selection of breezy keys, Vern and Paul whip up a top quality DiscoPop track with a comfortable poolside vibe. It’s to this mix that Jane injects a passionate performance. Heartfelt vocals that manage to be both touching and a massive earworm. It may not be summer anymore, but re-capture the vibes with this one.

[Download] Freak You reMixes Natural Animal’s ‘Who You Are’

Freak You is so classy. Seriously, every one of his reMixes in the past couple of years has avoided bandwagons, avoided fads, avoided genres even. He just delivers, classic sounding, somewhat timeless, dance music tunes that always hit the right note with the track being reMixed. His latest work is a mix for Toronto based duo Natural Animal and their song, Who You Are.

Freak You takes the almost Tropical sounding Bedroom Pop track and morphs it into a brooding epic. Flipping Who You Are’s Island hook into a hypnotic refrain gives the track an anchor and frees up the rich strings and reverb washed vocals to freely ebb & flow in and out of the track creating an enigmatic, but emotionally resonant mood. Freak You works his sound pallet to it’s fullest, teasing every ounce of humanity out of the track yet keeping both feet planted firmly on the dancefloor.

[Download] Joel Hood’s ‘Follow the Fool’

Joel Hood is a musician from the north of England whose lush Chillwavey ElectroPop has just been snatched up by Sunday Best, who will be releasing his début EP next year. In the meantime Joel has just finished, and released online, a new tune titled Follow The Fool to give you a taster of what to expect from the EP.

Follow The Fool is surprisingly laid back and Tropical for something originating in The North. It’s also peculiarly British, compared to his contemporaries, in a way that we just can’t put out finger on but we love all the same. The track builds a swirling cloud of sound, from the running bassline to haunting snatches of Sax, the track is a multi-layered synthesizer dream that floats over a 90s beat. Add a pinch of hazy vocals and you have five minutes of downtempo, electronic brilliance. just what we needed this week.

[Audio] Disclosure’s ‘Apollo’

London duo Disclosure’s acclaimed début album, Settle, is less than six months old and they are already dropping brand new tracks. You would have thought the commercial success of Settle would have seen the guys coasting for a while, but no, they’ve been back in the studio and Apollo is the result.

There’s no vocals here, no collaboration, this a raw, undiluted Disclosure. In a way Apollo feels like Disclosure going back to their roots somewhat. There’s a definite leaning toward the dancefloor of darkened warehouses and strobe lit late night clubs that Radio 1 Roadshows. Hypnotic and ethereal, Apollo, blends a little House, a little Acid, a little Rave, a little Techno and even a little Psy Trance, into one undulating monster. Unrelentingly groovy, this really is one to loose yourself in.
