[Download] Punks Jump Up’s ‘Fairlight’

Punks Jump UP

Ahhh the Fairlight. No joke, one of my earliest, fuzzy, memories was the Fairlight on Tomorrow’s World. I think this spaceship console of an instrument instilled in me from an early age a love of music and technology combined. Fairlight is also the title of London groovesters Punks Jump Up’s new tune. A tune which comes in two flavours, Video and Club varieties. So you’ve got a tribute to the CMI for every occasion.

The Video Mix of Fairlight, which we’ll take to be the de-facto Original Mix until informed otherwise, is a rich slice of DancePop, heavy on the Disco vibes. The track highlights Punks Jump Up’s knack of being able to produce on the cusp of 80s and 90s sounds. You’ve got late 80s basslines, mid-80s sampling, early 90s keys and a distinct nod to PJU’s mid-00s roots, all wrapped up in fresh, clean and contemporary production. Fairlight’s Video Mix is like a melting pot of everything that’s awesome in the history of Dance Music. The Club Mix falls a lot more in the House camp, unashamedly so’, bringing a Chicago groove to the tune. Revelling in warehouse euphoria, the Club Mix delivers big on all the nostalgic dancefloor requirements for a peak time party starter. Both track are available for free download, which seems like too good of a deal, we’re still waiting to find out there’s a catch.

[Download] Walter Sobcek reMix Laurent Voulzy’s ‘Grimaud’

Laurent Voulzy

Ahhh the new reMix from boarder spanning Nu-Disco outfit Walter Sobcek has us all nostalgic for the heydays of Dreamwave. You know what we mean. Back in 2008 and 2009 when everything was all breezy synths and hazy nostalgia. And Walter Sobcek were releasing their first material. the guys capture the mood perfectly with this reMix of classic French singer Laurent Voulzy’s 1979 tune Grimaud.

The reMix is all stabbing vintage synths, a New Order-esque bassline and hushed French vocals, not to dissimilar to Sobcek’s own Je Me Souviens. A track that reminds us we wish Walter Sobcek would release another original tune at some point, this reMix is everything you could want from a Dreamwave tune. It’s bright, carefree, and no matter how grey thing are at the moment, injects a little sunshine into our lives. C’mon guys, more please.

[Video] Chvrches’ ‘Lies’

CHVRCHES Lies YouTube

Chvrches appear to be releasing videos in reverse order to singles. So here we are, a couple of months after their stunning first album The Bones Of What You Believe was released, with the video for their début song, from summer last year, Lies.

The clip was directed by Sing J. Lee. Like the Recover video it’s pretty Sci-Fi, and seems to have been put together by someone who actually got the song, a rarity these days.

Chvrches début full length record, The Bones Of What You Believe, is out now.

[Audio] Michoacan’s ‘The Kingdom Of Heaven Is At Hand’

michoacan

Fernando Miranda Rios A.K.A. Michoacan, he of Disco Suck So Good fame, is back with another forthcoming blistering release on Eskimo Recordings. It’s a three track release titled The Kingdom Of Heaven Is At Hand, and it’s a pure Cosmic Disco workout. A fuzzy analog synth love-letter that’ll have you melting into your speakers. Check it out.

The EP’s title track is an eight minute epic, an exercise in freeform Disco and blissed out Moog jamming. a rotund, playful, beat keeps the time alongside a head nodding bassline, giving room in the track for all manner of snyths squelches, trills, zaps and Funk solos to haphazardly glide across the tune. One of the B-sides, No Magic Orchestra usurps a Kraftwerkian rhythm and rudely pairs it with a baseline reminiscent of a Post-Punk attempt at Disco and the Funky snyth noodlings of a madman. all three tracks on the EP are electronically enchanting. Galactic voyages withy a slightly drunk pilot. Disco made by broken robots. Definitely worth your attention.

[Audio] Airwolf’s ‘Hanging On’

Airwolf

It’s been a good old while since Australian producer Airwolf graced these pages. Over a year in fact, and even longer since his last release. Well, it’s good to know he hasn’t been waiting his time, the man is about to drop a huge new single on Onelove. Keeping in mind that Australia is upside down and it’s heading toward summer there, Hanging On is the perfect poolside party starter.

Hanging On is an undulating Disco-House tune that revolves around a dirty synth Funk bassline. A chunky, filtered, Disco hook permeates the track, which is peppered worth modulated vocal snatches and horn flourishes. Hanging On delivers elastic grooves and full on summery good-time vibes. A secret weapon in your crate? Check out the Radio Edit, which is pretty weird if we’re honest, it’s only two and a half minutes long, which is tiny even for radio edits (which usually knock around the 3m30s mark) and never really sells the song as much as it should. Hold out for the slamming club mix.

Edit: It seems that since posting this Onelove have swapped out the Radio Edit for the full Club Mix, so enjoy.

[Download] Goldroom’s ‘Embrace’ reMixed by Kelek

goldroom2

We weren’t going to feature any more reMixes of Goldroom’s excellent Embrace. We love the song, we’ve loved one or two of the reMixes, but there’s too many now, it’s getting tedious. However, we haven’t heard from German  producer Kelek in a while, over a year actually, and his take on Embrace is actually significantly different, or at least different enough, that we’re giving it a one-time-only pass.

Kelek reMix is an energetic, Disco fuelled, retro Pop extravaganza. Rolling with a 80s Disco bassline and a smooth piano hook, this mix a breezy and fun. Immediately accessible, Ariela Jacobs vocals take on a new R&B twist when paired with Kelek’s vintage electronic Soul vibe. A bit New Wave-y, slightly French Touch-y, Kelek has done a sterling job of stamping his mark on the track. Check it out.

[Audio] GotSome reMixes Storm Queen’s ‘Look Right Through’

Storm Queen

Look Right Through, the big tune from Morgan Geist’s alter ego Storm Queen, has been out and about for a while now, years in fact. First released on Environ in 2010, then again as a big reMix package by Defected in 2012. [Audio] Maya Jane Coles reMixes Tiga Vs. Audion’s ‘Let’s Go Dancing’

tiga-vs-audion

Check out Maya Jane Coles’ reMix of Tiga Vs. Audition (Matthew Dear)’s hype inducing Let’s Go Dancing. Tiga’s most explosive track for al long while, Let’s Go Dancing caused a bit of a stir when it was released a couple of months ago, now with the release of the reMix EP looming we can wrap out ears around this, the one we were most looking forward to.

Maya takes things Deep and Techy with this one. Six minutes of hypnotic warehouse sounds with a fantasy twist. With a seeming nod to early Warp Bleep House Maya playfully skims magical melodies and psychedelic synths over to surface of a pounding House groove. The growling vocal refrain only adds to the enigmatic flavour of Maya’s mix. This one is going to get a serious club pounding, expect to be looing all sense of time on the dancefloor to this one very soon.
