[Download] Ronika’s ‘World Is Turning’

Ronika

In a surprise middle-of-the-week highpoint there’s a new track from Ronika. That’s right; new! It’s not on her critically lauded début album Selectadisc, not on her awesome EP’s, this is like a DVD extra you only discover later! An whilst we certainly weren’t expecting anything new so soon we’re more than happy about it. This will be out last post for a while as we’re off to Bestival, and World Is Turning is the perfect tune to leave you with.

Ronika puts a different spin on her retro Boogie sound with this one. Leveraging a little chill summer R&B gives the track a blissful afternoon vibe that’s nicely offset with the shuffling Electro beats. As always, Ronika doesn’t dig too deep into one genre Moreover she serves up a smorgasbord of dancefloor goodness; with Disco bass, B-Boy beats, and sweet Pop hooks, and presents it in her own unique style. Going for a drive this afternoon? Here’s your soundtrack.

We finally got to see London Nu-DiscoPop duo Cassette Club live a month or so ago, and we weren’t disappointed (that’s the blog ‘we’, I actually mean ‘I’; no idea why I keep doing this!); right in the middle of summer they busted out a cool set of chill and soulful Dreamwavey tunes that washed over the crowd like a cool breeze. Tom and Ben have decided to unleash another set of unreleased demos, to follow their Unreleased EP of 2012.

Unreleased 2 contains three instrumental demos and this shiny vocal track, Toy. Toy is a lush slice of retro Pop with a slick Disco twist. With a popping bassline that anyone on TOTP in the mid 80s would be proud of Cassette Club get their Italo on. As Tom belts out an impassioned vocal, Ben’s smooth groove soon sweeps into and airy Disco vibe. The whole EP is free to download, then link is below the track. Enjoy.

[Audio] Justin Faust’s ‘Spellbound’

justin-faust

The bearded wizard of Nu-Disco Justin Faust is testing the release of his début full length record with a sneaky peek at the title track. The album is called Spellbound and is due out this month via the awesome Discotexas. Followers of Faust will agree that this album is very long and eagerly awaited and if this lead track is anything to go by, it’ll be worth the wait. This bodes very well.

There’s just something about the bassline to Spellbound. We can’t put our finger on it, but it worms it’s way into your brain and stays there. It’s a rich and hypnotic track that shows off Faust’s funk in full swing. A chugging, unrelenting groove rolls over effervescent purcussion, synths firing on all cylinders and providing a forward imperative for layers of bright shiny keys to flow over. The album can’t come soon enough.

[Audio] Alex Metric & Stefan Storm’s ‘Heart Weighs A Ton’ reMixed by Cassian

alex-metric

Our friends over at Stoney Roads got themselves the killer scoop on this new reMix from Sydney House master Cassian. He’s served up a bouncy-as-hell reMix of the forthcoming new single from Mr. Alex Metric; Heart Weighs A Ton. The track, of course, features the vocal stylings of the one and only Stefan Storm from The Sound Of Arrows, which just means there is so much pedigree, and so much to like, about this track from the offset.

Cassian pulls out the springiest of rubbery basses for this one. Deep and booming yet bouncing all over the track, the bassline fires itself across razor sharp drums with Cassian grabs snatches of Stefan’s uplifting vocal and drops them here and there. Enter the piano hook to tie the track together and elevate it to a place of dancefloor madness. Time to get your head down and keep dancing.

[Audio] Hervé’s ‘Hate On Me’

herve

Hate On Me is the title track of of the new EP from Cheap Thrills label boss and UK Bass legend Hervé. Following on from last years Lion EP and a storming release with Zebra Katz on Mad Decent, the man is back with the bass on a track that combines his more recent House-y output with his booming Bass roots and delivers the best of both worlds.

It’s hard not to move to this one. Just sitting down with headphones on we’ll be nodding like crazy, we can only imagine how compelling it is in a club. Classic 909 hats and a mesmerizing subby bassline run throughout the track generating a rock solid core. There’s a cheeky sample from comedian Katt Williams that injects the tune with a playful side, but one that doesn’t deter from the hardcore floorfilling mission that Hate On Me is on.

[Audio] Blonde’s ‘I Loved You’

Blonde

This is the new single from Bristolian Pop/House duo Blonde, still riding high on the success of their Higher Ground tune. I Loved You is the apex of the R&B/Chicago House revival crossover, that is becoming more and more prevalent, in that is sounds so much like early 90s soul anyway that it ends up sounding both nostalgic and fresh. Check it out.

There’s a great Pop/Soul vocal here (riffing on Tamia’s 2004 release More), that shares the tracks limelight with a massive piano hook chorus. Clocking in at a perfect three minutes in length, this is exactly how Pop/House should sound; respectful of it’s warehouse roots but effortlessly catchy and easy enough to listen to as it is to dance to. This is upbeat, feel-good Chicago House jammage that’s hard to beat.

[Download] The Sanfernando Sound reMixes Divine Knights’ ‘Hearts On Fire’

Divine Knights

Remember a couple of weeks ago when we served up the The Sanfernando Sound co-written and produced new single from Australian SynthPop duo Divine Knights; Hearts On Fire? Well here is, fro your downloading pleasure, The Sanfernando Sound own storming reMix of the track, it’s pretty huge, and as such deserves to be played loud.

The Sanfernando Sound brings his retro synths up-to-date on this powerful five minutes; slipping the kind of beats and basslines you’d find on an extended 12” mix in the 80s into a slick contemporary production. The vocals are given an extra epic twist as they echo out over some serious vintage robo funk driven by a coursing bass sound that’s not a million miles away from the legendary reverb bass from Front 242’s Headhunter. A juggernaut club version of an already majestic song.

[Audio] Sohight & Cheevy’s ‘Shine With Me’

Sohight & Cheevy

Russian Nu-Disco duo Sohight & Cheevy have been quite the past few months, but it sounds like they have been hard at work working on new material. Not only working on new material, but cultivating a new, fuller, big band sound; as displayed on their brand new tracks, Shine With Me. This one is pretty huge.

Sohight & Cheevy sound like they are backed by a full orchestra on Shine With Me. It’s an amazingly full track, bristling with DiscoPop goodness. Cheevy’s falsetto vocals belt out over a symphony of thick synths, a powerful horn section, a hint of piano and a deep warbling bass. The track is currently unsigned, something someone needs to rectify pretty sharpish and this one could tear up the dancefloor in the right hands.
