Holy Ghost!’s ‘Hold My Breath’ reMixes

Holy Ghost!

Out today on DFA is Holy Ghost! reMix package for ‘Hold My Breath’, one of our favourite tracks from their storming self-titled début album.

Tiger & Woods deliver a synth Funked up with a touch of Acid and a hypnotic groove. Laden with ‘80’s Electro stabs and clocking in at just under ten minutes the track is almost a meditation on dance. Cosmic Kids’ deep Disco take on the tune is full of ominous analog synths, but keeps the tune at it’s Poppy core amidst all the moody warehouse sounds. To be honest, neither is a patch on the original, but do make a nice compliment.

Young Digerati cover Monster Mash

As you’ll well be aware it’s Halloween this weekend, and to get your spirits up (was that a joke? I’m not convinced) Bay Area ElectroPop fourpeice Young Digerati have only gone and covered Bobby Pickett’s ‘Monster Mash’ haven’t they!

Honestly, there’s not a lot you can say about this really. It’s the Monster Mash with some nice synths, it sounds exactly like you’d expect, and it’s a lot of fun. So stick this on for your synth Halloween weekend while you’re working your way up to some John Carpenter.

Kris Menace & Rex The Dog, Kris’ Mix

krismenace

We’ve already featured both the original and Rex’s reMix  of Rex The Dog and Kris Menace ‘s team-up record, ‘POW!’. It’s released today, so let’s check out Kris’ own take on the track.

Just like Rex’ version, you can definitely tell the is is the Kris Menace end of the collaboration. ‘Kris’ Club Mix’ is a pure dancefloor attack, accentuating the screaming rave synths. Less introvert that the original, this mix strips the tune back to it’s basic dancefloor DNA and builds upon everything that will have them with their hands in the air.

‘POW!’ is out today and comes highly recommended.

Aminova

Aminova

We received quite an enigmatic email from producer Aminova, so we honestly don’t know much about him. But that’s fine, this is a case when letting the music do that talking works on every level.

He’s recently released a new EP, ‘The Transfer’ which contains three tracks of synthesizer brilliance. While he does have a lot in common with his SynthWave contemporaries, Aminova, despite his tracks having solid beats, isn’t as dancefloor oriented at his peers, the tune on the EP are more focused on the musical aspects of SynthWave than merely making a crowd move. Layers of intertwining synthetic melodies weave around his songs like smoke, morphing into one another to create a densely layered electronic dream. there’s two things going on here really, there’s the ‘80’s electronic movie soundtrack thing, which Aminova does well, capturing emotion with every melody, and an experimental wall of noise thing, which compliment each other surprisingly well producing a sound that is both beautiful and slightly disorienting.

Aminova’s ‘The Transfer’ EP and his previous ‘Laser Beach’ EP are available for free on Bandcamp, his ‘Busy Lives/The Way Home’ single was released by Playmaker.

Oliver features on Aeroplane’s ‘In Flight Entertainment’

Oliver

So, Vito Aeroplane’s eagerly awaited ‘In Flight Entertainment’ compilation is out, and it’s good, very good. Maybe not the game-changer that some are making it out to be, but if you drop your expectations what you have is fourteen solid Nu-Disco tracks to get you dancing.

After an Poolside and B-Xentric! open the album in awesome style it kinda’ drops the flow a little bit with a few meandering tunes but once Aeroplane’s own ‘Save Me Now’ kicks in it’s  pure gold until the end of the album. Kolombo, Riptide, Cosmonauts, James Curd and Moonlight Matters all totally nail it, but it Oliver’s contribution that, alongside ‘Save Me Now’ is the real standout of the compilation. ‘Memories Of The Future is a massive Jean Michel-Jarre meets Daft Punk epic which will fascinate and enthral both the Disco dancer and the synth head.
