[Audio] Touch Tone reMixes Queen & David Bowie’s ‘Under Pressure’

Queen & David Bowie

Frankly we’re surprised no-one has tackled this earlier. In retrospect this track is ripe for a Topical makeover, but it took Dreamwave OG Touch Tone to step up to the plate. Queen & David Bowie’s  Under Pressure, with it’s classic bassline and freeform warbling has already got the groove, all it needs are some big ol’ synths. Enter Mr. Verner.

Mostly the classic bassline is ditched. A brave move, but Touch Tone cares not for you nostalgic attachments, he want’s to build a carefree summering Disco vibe out of Bowie and Mercury mumbling and nothing is going to stand in his way. Piano House meets Island purcussion with rumbling bass and a huge build. This is what the summer’s all about.

[Download] The Penelopes reMix The Cure’s ‘Just Like Heaven’

The Cure

How would you go about taking a beloved late-80s IndiePop classic and serving it up to the desert island Disco masses? Well, just ask London based French ElectroPop duo The Penelopes; ‘cos they’ve turned in this equatorial Pop masterpiece  reMix of The Cure’s Just Like Heaven.

Too cheery to ever really have been Goth, The Cure sound the most upbeat they’ve ever been as The Penelopes wash the track in the most Tropical of vibes. Steely purcussion, pulsing synth basses and a hand-clapping Disco beat all work surprisingly well with Robert Smith’s vocal. The Penelopes produce what might be their densest track to date, loading the four and a half minutes with layers of pads and melodies, all coming together for an uplifting and epic experience.

[Audio] Kid Astray’s ‘No Easy Way Out’

KidAstray

OK, so bear with me a second here. The new single from Norwegian Indie-Popsters Kid Astray does get a bit guitary. I know, I know, but if you can tune out the jingle jangle it’s actually a delicious ElectroPop tune full of a summery spring in it’s step. Mostly though I provided me with my one opportunity to use the phrase “jagged guitars”. This tune has jagged guitars in it! (or maybe not, I’m not really qualified to say).

It’s fun as hell too. No Easy Way Out has an easy-going bounce that is pretty hard to shake off, and the powerful bass and hammered piano more than makes up for it’s six-stringed shortcomings. Sprinkled with the odd 80s synth line, and a vocal you can’t help but sing along to, were pretty sure there’ll be a place in your heart for No Easy Way Out. It’s ripe for a reMixing too!.

[Audio] Colleagues’ ‘Tears’

Colleagues

I should make it absolutely clear tha Sweedish outfit Colleagues aren’t actually my colleagues. I’m nit sure whose colleagues they are, I would presume their won. With actually makes them the most literally named band since 2 Men, A Drum Machine And A Trumpet. I guess they could be called Five Sweedish Colleagues Who Work Together In A SynthPop Band, but that’s a bit of a mouthful.

On to the track! Tears is their second single, and it’s a euphoric four minutes of bliss that takes a The Sound Of Arrows deep ScandiPop sound and gives it an Indie-Electro twist. The synths are all damned chipper and the vocals all heartfelt and earnest. It’d be pretty hard to be in a bad mood with this blaring out of your speakers, dishing out audio candy to everyone in sight.

[Audio] Starcadian reMixes Katy Perry’s ‘Dark Horse’

katy-perry

When he’s not releasing one of the best albums around right now, New York SynthWaver Starcadian does a nice line in reMixes too. Although they tend to be few and far between, he always knocks it out of the park. the latest subject for one of his Sci-Fi Disco makeovers is Katy Perry’s single Dark Horse.

Rich. That’s the best work to describe this reMix. Rich and enthralling. Thick, rousing synths and Starcadian’s particular brand of orchestrated strings blend together with a seasoning of Cosmic zaps and pows to create a warm, emotionally evocative synthesizer soundtrack. Perfect for a slightly modulated version of Ms. Perry’s vocals, and a hint of Starcadian’s vocoder wizardry. Pure magic.

[Download] Allie X’s ‘Prime’

allie x

We’re always days late on the new Allie X tunes! But, y’know, whatever. If we wanted to be one of those ‘blogs’ that has to post everything first then we’d be one of those ‘blogs’ that just throws up a SoundCloud stream with no commentary whatsoever. We’d also slit our wrists. So, yeah, Allie X has a new track out, her second tune to set the music blogosphere alight. Does she deserve all the hype surrounding here? Well, it seems so.

Prime is a stomping slab of ElectroPop goodness that seems to draw a straight line between icy ScandiPop and aggressive American DancePop. A bubbly four minutes of SynthPop euphoria with a demon Funk bass and a glorious 80s trumpet break, Prime is loaded with the punchiness of synths and stuttering grooves. With all her humour and quirkiness, Allie X is a bit like a Lady GaGa who’s not a tedious dick.
