[Video] Scarlet Soho’s ‘Two Steps From Heartache’

Scarlet Soho Two Steps From Heartache YouTube

Two Steps From Heartache is the lead track from from UK Indie-Electro act Scarlet Soho’s forthcoming new EP. A contradictory intertwining of retro melancholy SynthPop and optimistic breakin’ beats makes for something strangely anthemic. Check out the video below.

Directed by Steve Hogg the clip which blends glamorous performance footage with the duo being harassed by a mime. We’re not sure how we feel about that. Fucking mimes!

Scarlet Soho’s new EP is released 18th September.

[Audio] Bastille’s ‘bad_news’

Bastille

London ElectroPoppers Bastille fold a little Future R&B into the sound on their new single; bad_news. The track will feature on the bands new EP, Oblivion. The EP will see a limited (1,000 copies) 7” release and feels like a chance for Bastille to air their experiments with new sounds. Apparently some of the new stuff is more Rocky, we’re crossing out fingers that their new sound will settle on deep electronic grooves like bad_news though. Check it out.

bad_news is a combination of complex Future R&B rhythms with rave-y synth squeals and Dan’s instantly recognisable vocals, albeit in a more introspective flavour. A mid-tempo jam that lyrically nicely sums up both the giving and receiving of the titular bad news while an array of synth warbles and whooshes fill the track out in the background. We’re definitely intrigued to hear what Bastille are cooking up for us in the future.

[Audio] Gorgon City’s ‘Unmissable’

Gorgon City

Get on-board with London House producers extraordinaire Gorgon City. With their début album looming on the October horizon, the duo are gearing up to release their next single from the LP. This one enlists the talents of British singer Zak Abel for vocal duties and draws a neat line between UK Deep House and a more soulful strain of Pop. Check out Unmissable below.

Unmissable is immediately infectious, both for a passionate, introspective vocals and the big bass warps. It would be all to easy to get lost int he big bass and skippy hi-hats on the dancefloor, but this one will surprise you with it’s big, catch Pop chorus. Epic and anthemic, the chorus, and the big breakdown, lend the track and energetic excitement in the perfect meeting of two worlds.

kamp

Here’s the next track unveiling from the forthoming new Cascine released EP from Polish ElectroPop wizards Kamp!. Speaking of camping; we’ll be offline for a while in a few weeks, for our annual holiday, at Bestial. Our new tent has just turned up but the weather’s been so shitty recently we haven’t had a chance to try it out; and we do link to make sure it’s all in order. I mean, no-one wants to turn up at a festival to find they’re missing a bunch of tent pegs. Unless, of course, you’re the guy who actively tries to get his tent to end up in a bush, with him in it; which we are definitely not. Anyway, (*checks word-count*), the new Kamp! single is called Parallels.

Parallels is slightly more the Kamp! we are used to than the previous offering, Early Days. This one kicks off with an undulating analog synth grind which doesn’t let up for the entire anthemic four minutes. There more of a groove to this one to, at times sounding like a heavily reverbed Tesla Boy. The combination of deep pulsating bass and smoky synths leave the track in a dusky nexus spot with the vocals lift the track to new heights. The EP is coming soon and whatnot.

[Audio] Yelle’s ‘Bouquet Final’

Yelle

Amazing French ElectroPop outfit Yelle, still one of the best live acts we’ve ever seen, have just announced the release of their new album. To be titled Complètement fou, this will be the trio of Yelle, tEPr and GrandMarnier’s third studio offering and, so far, they have been getting better and better with each release. Check out the albums advance single Bouquet Final below (and yes, we know it’s been out on YouTube for a couple of weeks, but y’know, fuck lyric videos!).

So Bouquet Final bodes extremely well for the album. Kicking off with a coarse, crunchy, bit crushed beat the song soon evolves into a giddy, undulating, slo-mo SynthPop powerhouse. Huge grinding synths and a groaning bass wash in and out of the track as Yelle’s energetic vocal glides from sweet to epic. Feasting a nice line in twisted leads and an unrelenting pump, Bouquet Final is a great way to start Yelle phase three,

[Audio] Say Lou Lou X Lindstrøm’s ‘Games For Girls’

say-lou-lou1

Australian/Swedish majestic ElectroPop sisters Say Lou Lou are already touting the release of their long awaited début album, and it;s not going to be here until early next year! It’ll be called Lucid Dreaming and despite not being available until February 2015, we can already get excited for it with their brand new single, a collaboration with Norwegian Cosmic Disco master Lindstrøm. Let the good times roll!

We have to admit, we found it a immediately a little jarring to hear Say Lou Lou in the context of quirky Scandinavian analog Disco, but as soon as you settle into the groove it all seems to make sense. Say Lou Lou, obviously, appear a lot less serious and a lot more fun as their intertwining vocals bounce over a cheeky arpeggiated bassline and and a sweet plethora of playful synths. It’s good to hear Say Lou Lou branching out in the lead up to their album. If we were interested before, we are super interested now!

[Download] Nude Disco reMixes Force MDs ‘Tender Love’

force md's

Nu-Disco meets New Jack Swing right here with this remix of 80s Soul-Hop outfit Force MDs’ breakthrough hit, Tender Love. Nude Disco is the one who has stepped up to the plate to rework this 1985 classic. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis produced the original, that’s some pretty big shoes to fill!

Nude Disco takes the track to the synth crown with a strong Italo/Synthwave bassline underpinning the whole tune. The combination of a punchy bassline and the smooth-as-hell track is an interesting one and works surprisingly well. Nude Disco keeps the bulk of the arrangement intact (well, you’d have to with this song wouldn’t;t you?), but the whole thing is seemingly re-energized with a sprinkling of Nu-Disco and a sprinkling of Tropical.

[Download] Ronika’s ‘Shell Shocked’ reMixed by CJ Mirra

Ronika

If you haven’t already picked up a copy of Ronika’s album Selectadisc; do that now. It’s OK, we’ll wait. All done? Good, ‘cos the only people we know who haven’t got the album are idiots, and you don’t want to be associated with that lot. Ronika’s first post-album release will be a reMix package for the tracks Wiyoo and Shell Shocked, and in amongst the Jupiters and the Drop Out Orchestras sits this gem from the man of many synthetic textures, CJ Mirra.

Since we last featured CJ Mirra, he’s been off scoring European art films. Which is pretty cool and has the benefit of sounding like something an 80s student would aspire to. Bringing some of that enigmatic synthesizer beauty to Shell Shocked, CJ Mirra provides a respite from the floorfillers has he delivers something a little more cerebral. Thru arrangement here is a joy to listen to as Mirra glides from mood to mood, replacing futuristic eeriness with cinematic majesty, and drawing to deeper into the track. Waves of synths and a robotic bass swirl around Ron’s vocal, which takes on a new level of melancholy, and seem to have a narrative flow. At least, by the end of it you feel like you’ve just been told someone’s life story.
