[Download] DNKL’s ‘Warm Dark Night’ reMixed by VUURWERK

Warm Dark Night originally appeared on Swedish enigmatic SynthPop outfit DNLK’s recent Wolfhour EP and to commemorate their début UK live appearance (this Thursday at the Lexington in London) they are giving way this reMix of the track from Belgian electronic trio VUURWERK. Both acts lean toward the moodier side of the musical spectrum and this reMix sums that vibe up perfectly.

VUURWEK play around with gloomy tones booming bass to soundtrack the original’s vocals. Set to a shuffling, suffering beat, which has a swing not often found in this kind of music, the reMix adds some passionate female vocals to the mix and it heaps on ever more layers of noisy synth work. Gloomy and funky? A combination that works.

[Audio] Anthony & Cleopatra’s ‘Sirens’

London based rising stars Anthony & Cleopatra have spent the last year carving out quite the reputation for themselves. They’re one of those names the we’re not quite sure about yet but always sit up and take notice when you see them mentioned. Their collaborations with the likes of Beni, Sammy Bananas, and most notably, Lancelot have earned them that much. This week they released their début original single. Produced by the aforementioned Mr. Bananas; this is Sirens.

Anthony & Cleopatra (Anita Blay, as in CockNBullKid, and Alexander Burnett (of Sparkadia) show off their Pop credential here (particularly Anita) as the exude an effortless cool and deliver a smooth mixture of laid back beach Disco and war 80s electronic Soul. With a swing in it’s step Sirens serves up a bouncy Boogie synth bass and a delicious sax solo while Antony & Cleopatra boy/girl vocals trade lyrics in a soulful style. Sink into this one.

[Video] Johan Agebjörn’s ‘You Passed Through’

Sweedish ElectroPop superstar Johan Agebjörn’s new album of quieter, more introspective pieces, Notes, is our now. The albums collaboration with Young Galaxy, You Passed Through, has got itself an companion video.

Directed by Jarrett Sitter, the clip is a dreamlike, shadow theatre animation. The perfect melancholic accompaniment.

[Audio] MG (Martin Gore)’s ‘Europa Hymn’

Depeche Mode driving force, Techno enthusiast and one of our generations greatest songwriters, Martin Gore, has just announced a brand new electronic instrumental album, due out next month. The sixteen track record will be released under the MG moniker and titled the same; it was recorded post-Mode’s 2013 tour with Gore wanting to “keep the music very electronic, very filmic, and give it an almost Sci-Fi like quality,”. Check out the first taste of MG below in the form of Europa Hymn.

Europa Hymn is an evocative machine symphony. A track that combines Vangelis-esque synth swells with factors industrial percussion. Rather that this electronic experiment being harsh and moody, Europa Hymn is actually a bright and optimistic track. Gore conveys heaps of emotion in his use of dewdrop melodies and rising keys. We kinda’ wish modern Depeche Mode albums sounded more like this.

[Audio] LoFrames’ ‘Get Real (Can’t Touch Your Love)’

We’ve been waiting for this one for a while now. You may have noticed that the B-Side of the electronic rumors released Freak You’s There You Are was titled The Last Track. This was because it was literally Freak You’s last track as he left the Freak You moniker behind to team-up with long time production collaborator James Yuill (who also mixed There You Are) to form the brand new outfit LoFrames. James and Franck’s début single is released next month, check out Get Real (Can’t Touch Your Love).

Seamlessly blending epic Pop, Deep House and warm Electro, LoFrames serve up a track that strips dance music and electronic Pop back to it’s core elements. Concentrating on the minimum viable product (that’s a business term!) the duo offer refined SynthPop, perfectly crafted for both the heart and the feet. Warm bass and razor leads drift over a solid groove to create a strong foundation for an introspective and heartfelt vocal. The icing on the cake is a drifting dusting of Sax that floats through the track like smoke amid the machines. This is seriously luxurious stuff.

[Audio] Fred Falke reMixes Prides’ ‘Higher Love’

Ahh, Fred Falke. We’ve not heard that much from him lately, but the man is one of the best in the business. Responsible for a plethora of massive, massive classic productions the Frenchman has taken on the new single from Glaswegian ElectroPop rising stars, Prides. The Scottish trio have been going crazy with the hype recently, not least being shortlisted for the Blog Sound Of 2015, and now Falke brings the emotional SynthPop sound of Higher Love to the dancefloor.

Falke, as we would have expected, serves up exactly the kind of exuberant carefree jam that you’d expect from this French Touch pioneer. Loaded with filtered riffs and those big chords we love him for, this tune mixes the upbeat introspection of the original with a glistening vintage dancefloor feel. We always love a Fred Falke reMix, but it’s rare that the reMix is of a track that we already love; Falke’s reMix of Prides’ Higher Love is a double whammy.

[Download] Sébastien Tellier’s ‘Kilometre’ reMixed by Nude Disco

London’s Nude Disco is back with another of his storming reMixes. This one’s truly on point with Vern’s take on Sébastien Tellier’s classic Kilometre. This is one track you all will know, taken from the Guy-Manuel De Homem-Christo produced album Sexuality it was a 2008/09 staple. Check out Nude Disco bringing up to 2015 speed and ready for a new dancefloor.

Nude Disc keeps things steady with this rock solid reMix. Kicking off with a bubbling arpeggio and a cracking electro snare, Vern soon introduces the original’s rich synths and a squelchy lead into the mix as the tune dips and bobs through the track. After a warm breakdown, Nude Disco brings it back hard with an irresistible and energetic synthetic finale.

[Audio] Lindstrøm & Grace Hall’s ‘Home Tonight’

Norwegian Cosmic Disco wizard Lindstrøm, this week, unleashed his new single. The man is an epic freak-out master, but also has released some amazingly catchy stuff when teamed up with some vocal talent. On this occasion he’s got together with Skin Town singer Grace Hall to deliver a nine-minute epic (not that nine-minute epics are a rarity for the Scandinavian Cosmic Disco crew) that melds the galactic with the emotional.

Home Tonight is classic Lindstrøm. The man’s first original (and solo) track in two-ish years burbles and sweeps through it’s extended length but never loses focus. Peppered with an 80s feel, Lindstrøm build the boogie with vintage synths and shuffling percussion before dropping the listener ears first into a solid-as-hell space-age Disco groove. Sparkling and uplifting, the synths dance over the tune with a playful decadence while Grace Hall’s retro Electro Soul vocals surge in and out of the mix. In it’s race for the finish, Home Tonight drops the full force of piano hooks and orchestral stabs to bring it home.
