RIP DJ Mehdi

DJ-Mehdi

Right, a lot of backlog today to get through but there’s no way we can kick off without taking a moment to express our condolences to the friends and family of Mehdi Favéris-Essadi, better known as DJ Mehdi who tragically died yesterday at his home in Paris.

The man helped shape that Ed Banger sound we all love and invigorated any track he touched with an ear for the dancefloor and a twisted mind for sample abusing. His beats will be missed.

Strangely this past Saturday he was playing at Bestival alongside Riton as Carte Blanche for Annie Mac, who dropped ‘The Molecules’ as a download. Carte Blanche rocked that Big Top!

Who wants to hear the new Justice single?

justice

Well, frankly, if you know anything about music comment on the internet you already have. But here’s out two penny’s worth anyway. if we could tie you down and make you listen we would.

We’re really digging it, I expect a lot of fans of Justice’s pedal-to-the-metal ‘bangers’ will be a little disappointed, but we’ve always preferred Justice when they indulge their Disco side and the obvious musical talent a little. To us, both this and ‘Civilization’ are justice at their epic, Disco opera, best.

Dada Life’s new video

Wash your Saturday down with the new video from crazy Swedes Dada Life.

‘Happy violence’ is a chunky as hell but pleasingly melodic banger that will feature on the forthcoming ‘So Much Dada’ album.

Alex Metric Vs. The Whip

thewhip

I have always had a bit of a love/hate relationship with The Whip, a times I find them to be pure Indie-Electro dancefloor genius who perfectly capture of the catchy Pop song with their own edge, at other times I find them lazy, uninspired and mediocre. I’m still excited to hear the forthcoming album though, hopefully it will fall into the former category.

In the meantime, here’s a reMix of the track ‘Secret Weapon’ by one of the best Electro producers, not just in the UK, but in the World Alex Metric. Metric completely works this mix taking the best elements of The Whip and morphs them into a peak time, hands-in-the-air, three minutes of amazingness.

The Whip’s Jagz Krooner produced new album, ‘Wired Together’, is released 19th September on Southern Fried Records.

Birdy Nam Nam’s new video

Birdy Nam Nam are back, I honestly didn’t think they were around anymore. They are about to release their ‘Goin’ In’ single which shows they have lost none of their in-your-face electro edge.

The video is suitably bizarre, seeing as Machine Molle, WillSweeney and So Me had a hand in it.

The ‘Goin’ In’ EP is released 5th September.

Cicada X BeatauCue

Cicada

Cicada recently released their ‘Sunburst’ album which is an amazing twelve tracks of synthesizer Funk and ElectroPop tinged Nu-Disco.

It’s apparently selling well and in celebration they are giving away this reMix of the lead track ‘Come Together’ by BeatauCue who morph the track from smooth Disco to an ear bleeding Electro floorfiller. I think most people are pretty over big distorted kick-drum and sirens Electro these days, but this is actually quite a good example of it. In the good ol’ day’s we’d have called this a ‘banger’ or something.

Vincent Fries & Justin Faust

Vincent Fries

Justin Faust recently guested on Vincent Fries’ ‘Bavarian Barbarian’ EP, the result being ‘Choppy Slick’ a response to Faust’s own ‘Sloppy Chick’.

Taking the bouncy riff from from the smooth Nu-Disco original, this version beefs things up a bit, adding a little grit with some distorted synths and heavy beats that counterpoints quite nicely with the shimmering retro synths to make a track that is both viscerally dancefloor and musically satisfying and crosses the Nu-Disco/Electro-House barrier with ease.

Moustache Machine reMixes Justice

justice

Hey! I’m writing a post about Justice and Uffie! It’s like it’s 2007 all over again!

The reason for this blast from the (recent) past is one of our favourite up-and-coming producers, Moustache Machine, has reMixed Justice’s Uffie featuring track ‘Tthhee Ppaarrttyy’, giving it a modern retro gloss. All digital bass and stratospheric lead lines Moustach Machine has made the track fresh again.
