Friends Electric reMix Ellie Goulding

ElleGoulding03

This reMix of Ellie Goulding’s ‘Under The Sheets’ is actually a couple of months old but i felt like sharing. Cardiff newcomers Friends Electric are already causing waves and if this mix is anything to go by they have a bright future ahead of them. This is a solid reMix, a bass heavy floor filler!

Have they added backing vocals? Nice!

‘Under The Sheets’ is out now.

Squares & Zeros

Squares&Zeros

Squares & Zeroes are a four piece Indie-Electro outfit, from Melbourne, Australia, who produce some pretty fresh sounding ElectroPop with a rocky tinge to the vocals.

Who’d have thought, ten years ago, that Oz would be such a big player on the ElectroPop stage? Still, you can’t argue with the quality of the music that comes out of the Modular etc.. scene.

Squares & Zeroes could easily rise to the top of that crowd, I bet there are great live too.

Squares & Zeros – So Shy (S&Z Bash-Full reMix) (zShare) (MediaFire)

These tracks here are in demo form but the band are currently holed-up with Leigh Evans (Muscles producer) working on their début album

Røyksopp (Feat. Robyn) performance video!

Apparently Røyksopp haven’t performed on TV for seven years! Well, what better way to make a comeback is to perform “The Girl And The Robot” from their latest album ‘Junior’ on Swedish TV and actually bring Robyn along to do the vocals!

“The Girl And The Robot” is still one of my favourite tracks of the moment, it’s an almost perfect slice of ElectroPop. Do I smell a second single?

‘Junior’ is out now on Wall Of Sound.

New t.A.T.u. video.

I really like t.A.T.u….most people I know don’t.

What annoys me about that is no-one can seem to get past this whole lesbian shit, and if they did they would see t.A.T.u. have made some of the best electronic Pop music in the last decade, even before Trevor Horn’s involvement.

The lesbian controversy thing is a joke anyway. First middle England is up in arms about schoolgirl lesbians and then even more people seem to be angry that it turned out not to be true! Which I find bewildering. Guess what?; David Bowie wasn’t really Ziggy Stardust, Vincent Furnier wasn’t really Alice Cooper, hell, Matt Damon isn’t really Jason Bourne and those dudes from Lost, they aren’t really trapped on an island! Sometimes entertainers play different roles as part of their performance!

Anyway, it’s a pity people can’t get get over it. Three albums in and t.A.T.u. have consistently produced top quality, electronic, edgy, Pop music that a lot of people are missing out on.

So, on to the video. this is for the 4th single of the last album, ‘Vesyolye Ulybki’ (‘Happy Smiles’), called ‘Snegopady’ (‘Snowfalls’).

Stop worrying and go enjoy some t.A.T.u.:

No shit, Sherlock!: Lovelock

No shit, Sherlock!: A chance to enthuse about music from the last few years that pre-dates electronic rumors, this stuff has probably already been blogged to death years ago, but we need a chance to get how much we love it off our chests. We already love it, you already know and love it…and are probably bored of it, but we’re going to blog about it anyway…

Lovelock

Zombi’s Steve Moore’s side project  Lovelock received a bit of blog attention late last year, particularly for his track ‘Burning Feeling’. The hype was well deserved.

Lovelock’s epic, sonically sprawling, retro SynthPop is serious 80’s teen movie soundtrack stuff. Just like we like it!

The production on these tracks is, at times, staggeringly good. The layering of either Steve’s smooth vocals, or the guest vocalists, with the driving electronics that sometimes verges on early industrial, with ‘Burning Feeling’ and sometimes glides across the dancefloor, as with Maybe ‘Tonight’, is so slick it’s a joy to listen to.

Check out this lot, pure 80’s goodness!

Lovelock’s only release so far has been on Eskimo Recordings ‘Cosmic Balearic Beats Vol. 01’ CD, expect more soon though!

Detronik

Detronik

Well, after a couple of name changes (they had to stop using the last name for legal reasons) this Leeds based ElectroPop act have settled on their moniker; Detronik, and in doing so added impetus to their production schedule.

The trio, consisting of John Steed, Richy Spence and Liana Stokes, are currently working on their début album which they promise will be out October/November but we can give you a taster of what to expect in the form of a demo version of ‘My Girlfriend Likes Girls’, which is a brilliant slice of upbeat ElectroPop and shows off Detronik’s dry sense of humour, ‘My Girlfriend Likes Girls’ is genuinely funny.

Detronik – My Girlfriend Likes Girls (Demo.) (zShare) (MediaFire)

Detronik don’t seem to conform to either Clubby ElectroPop or Indie-Electro, rather they seem to walk a line between the two.

Show them some MySpace love as you wait for the album release!

New video from Miss Kittin & The Hacker

Ok, so I was always a little jaded about Miss Kittin & The Hacker, I defiantly though they were overrated…I may have been wrong.

This is the video for ‘1000 Dreams’ from their forthcoming album, ‘Two’ and it’s such a good track, easily the best thing they’ve ever done.

I cannot get that riff out of my head!

I really like they way the video, directed by Régis Brochier, is shot too.

‘Two’ is released April 20th.

New Pégase tracks

Pegase

Pégase, side project of Raphaël (the lead singer of Minitel Rose), have dropped a couple of new demos.

As with everything that comes out of the Valerie collective this is quality retro Electro stuff. More upbeat than Pégase’s earlier, spaced-out, tunes these two are full-on ElectroPop goodness. ‘Wherever You Are’ is verging on Electro-Rock.

Pégase’s first proper releases are really something to look forward to, until then show the French man some MySpace love!

That Pet Shop Boys and Phil Oakey track!

PetShopBoys3

There is so much that makes me smile about this track. For a start you have Chris Lowe singing! Not only is the song brilliant, but it also feels like a SynthPop in-joke (in the best possible way).

Neil and Chris’ parts are nostalgic, slightly lamenting and very English (great use of “bloody”), then the analog bass drops and Oakey crashes the party as a doom and gloom merchant. It’s like a late 80’s PSB track invaded by a very early 80’s The Human League song.

Just hearing a Pet Shop Boys track and suddenly listening to Phil Oakey is pure SynthPop gold!

Brilliant…just brilliant!

Pet Shop Boys (Feat. Phil Oakey Of The Human League) – This Used To Be The Future (zShare) (MediaFire)

That was a low quality taster, the track features on the limited edition double cd version of PSB’s new album ‘Yes’, entitled ‘Yes Etc…’. The whole album is classic Pet Shop Boys in a way we’ve not seen for a couple of records. A worthy investment:

TheTeenagers

French/English Indie SynthPop rabble rousers The Teenagers must be in a generous mood. Over on their MySpace they are giving away five reMixes of their anthemic ‘Feeling Better’.

Here is one of them, Minitel Rose using their trademark soaring synths to full effect:
