Thomas Tantrum are a Southampton based Indie-Pop outfit who’s new single, ‘Hot Hot Summer’, has been reMixed by Gwaiiu.
Gwaiiu is none other than Will Sanderson, ex member of CHEW LiPS, who applies his ElectroPop skills to the track to create an awesome mid-tempo head nodder. Driven by electronic burbling and chirping and a solid beat and more than a little Dubstep influence. It’s actually like a Dubstep early Gary Numan track with female vocals. Interesting stuff!
I don’t know much about Purity Ring beyond what was contained in the email we received, they seem to have a few fans on Facebook so maybe I’ve been missing out on something.
I know they are a duo composed of Corin Roddick and Megan James, I know they are Canadian, and I know the music a completely enchanting. Mixing up BedroomPop and Dubstep on their début single ‘Ungirthed’. There might, at first glance, be a contradiction between the deep , spooky heavy bass and the cute, quaint, vocals and melodies, but the the two halves of the track combine to form a whole greater than the sum of it’s parts. Like a kitten with a switchblade you don’t know whether to be scared of ‘Ungirthed’ or embrace it, but what you will do is nod your head and become enveloped in Purity Ring’s soundscape.
Well…holed up in some kind of Substatic bunker writing tunes, that’s what.
After extensive gigging their highly recommended début EP for the past year (and, I presume, taking a couple of months to get over making it into electronic rumors’ top 5 tracks of 2011!) it was time for Bristol’s finest Electro trio to get their groove on and look to their next release. They have let two demos form their next release into the wild via their SoundCloud page. The first to see the light of day was ‘Bloodlust’, a laidback, slightly Dubsteppy, tune with an air of tension running throughout, but in instrumentation and Colleen’s borderline lamentation vocal delivery. Then there is ‘Gold’, a track that deserves to be played loud. ‘Gold’ is an in-your-face Electro beast, Substatic have assimilated both Dubstep and Electro-House’s synth work and sprinkled it with an ElectroPop sheen. ‘Gold’ will defiantly be one of this summers anthems.
Bearing in mind that these are both still works-in-progress, it seems Substatic’s next release will be something to get excited about.

Substatic’s ‘Days Go On’ EP and ‘Days Go On: the_reMixes’ are both available now.
Katy B is REALLY growing on me! I’ve said before I have a big soft spot for female vocals with a bit of a uniqueness, a quirkiness to them and Katy totally fits the bill. There’s some awesome tunes there too. Her new single ‘Broken Record’ has been on repeat here most of the morning and luckily enough the video has just been premiered.
So have a gander:
Broken Record” drops on 27th March with remixes from Zinc, DJ Fresh, Jacques Greene and Todd Edwards.
Our favourite Bristol based Electro outfit Substatic rock back next month with the reMix flipside to their amazing ‘Days go On’ EP of last year.
The ‘Days Go On: the_reMixes’ EP contains five blistering versions of those tracks which, should you have bought the EP, have been in your head for the last six months. With a definite Dubstep and D&B slant, the collection ranges from Junk’s D&B powerhouse take on ‘Closer’ to Koudbreak’s deep, almost Trip-Hoppy mix of the same It seems Substatic have chosen their reMixers well, the whole EP flows nicely without any one act sounding too much like the next. Highlights of the EP have to be the aforementioned Junk mix, Lightfires’ string heavy House/Pop clash version of ‘Wild Horses’ and the broken beats Dubstep of Sismique ‘s mix of ‘Edge Of Your Love’.
We’ve already bigged-upNero’s new video game Dubstep tune ‘Me & You’. It’s a track we’re really digging. Just to add to out love of the tune 8-bit Electro-House guru Danger has dropped his reMix of the track.
Danger creates a hybrid of his console Electro and the original’s 80’s action movie theme epicness dropping ElectroPop riffs over the track’s power chords to awesome effect. It’s been a while since we heard anything from Danger, let’s hope this is remedied soon with an EP in the works.
I get the feeling ‘In For The Kill’ is due for a rerelease. La Roux has been chatting about filming a new video for it on her Twitter feed and now we have this gem. It’s only bloody Danger reMixing La Roux init!!!
Danger and La Roux is an awesome combination, and it doesn’t disappoint. It does, however, surprise. It’s a mid-tempo, bass heavy, almost Dubsteppy in places jam that drops in bits and pieces of familiar Danger style melody. It works amazingly well and comes off as a kinda’ 80’s Dubstep track. New genre anyone?
A few new reMixes of ‘Young Blood’ are starting to come in but it’s the Swedish duo’s that really stands out mixing the New Zealand Indie-Electro with some hardcore synths which gives a whole new energy to the vocals. For something a little more chilled, try Pink Ganter’s traditional Japanese Dubstep mashup.
Paper Crows are a UK duo who incorporate elements of Dub, Trip-Hop, Electronica and Dubstep to create a haunting and atmospheric, yet soulful, sound.
Which, of course, is taken apart and put back together with strips of ElectroPop and Nu-Disco by the awesome Monsieur Adi for their forthcoming début single ‘Stand Alight’. Adi, who literally makes the track sound like a different song, manager to work the melancholic ballad into an upbeat floorfiller.
