A.N.D.Y. reMixes Mike Mago

Mike Mago

Something a little different now from Belgian producer A.N.D.Y.. With his new reMix of Dutchman Mike Mago’s The Soul he goes for a deep synthetic Rave feel. It’s a sound that we’ve seen him moving further and further toward over his last few productions. One thing is for sure, A.N.D.Y. is very good at it.

His reMix of The Soul slides effortlessly from a deep Chicago style sound, to massive Ravey House, to Acidic burbling with easy, taking the listener through a variety of moods whilst retaining a groovy warehouse vibe throughout. Loaded with pulsating synths, big Rave leads and low basses to compliment the hypnotic vocals, this track is sure to go down a storm on many dimly lit dancefloors in the near future.

A.N.D.Y. reMixes Bodyspasm

Bodyspasm

Premièred on his last mixtape, here is the full length version of, one of Belguim’s hottest properties right now, A.N.D.Y.’s reMix of Bodyspasm’s Twenty Radios. The fellow Belgian’s Twenty Radios single was released in April, now they are gearing up for the release of the reMix package, A.N.D.Y.’s mix is a part of, in this month.

To be honest, the original version as a bit to cheesy Rave for our tastes, the big piercing leads didn’t really do anything for us. A.N.D.Y.’s mix in the other hand keeps all that nonsense in check. With a ‘90’s House bassline at it’s core, A.N.D.Y. blends other elements into this Chicago mix, there’s some of his traditional Belgian Disco in there, some Acid burbling and a brooding ElectroPop breakdown. The finale of the track is a massive, multi-layered testament to A.N.D.Y.’s production skills and love of analog synths. Frankly, this blows the original out of the water.

A.N.D.Y. & Vicente’s ‘Traffic’ EP

a-n-d-y

Today Discotexas release the long awaited début ep from Andy Faisca A.K.A. one half of Belgian analog Disco kings, Mustang A.K.A. A.N.D.Y.. Teaming up with fellow Belgian DJ Vicente (he of the BelgoDisco mixtapes) the duo have dropped the ‘Traffic’ EP containing two storming original tracks and work by a couple of our favourite producers.

‘Traffic’, the lead track is 21st Century Moroder gold. A.N.D.Y. and Vincente’s futuristic take on an Italo and Disco deathmatch, with Italo coming out slightly on top, the track powers long riding the wave of a smooth arpeggiated bassline. This is Sc-Fi Disco at it’s best full of pinpoint laser synths and cosmic sweeps, it;s a track that gently builds and builds upon itself until the finale is total Buck Rodgers bliss. ‘El Barrio’ provides the B-Side, and strangely the source for the reMixes. It’s a steady groover, more the deep analog Disco we’d expect from the ex-Mustang man. Dropping a kinda’ Tropical lead line over the top sets the tone but soon gives was to something a lot more Jarre-esque. ‘El Barrio’ is an emotional robot of a track, that rocks the beach part vibe, it just happens to be a beach on Titan. Our favourite Finnish production team, and rapidly becoming regulars on electronic rumors, Jay Lamar & Jesse Oliver take up the reMix challenge turning ‘El Barrio’ into a slick Nu-Disco floorfiller. Keeping a bit of the Tropical vibe, but then going heavy on the synth bass and wicked Disco licks, give the track a whole new tone, and when the massive synth stab ‘chorus’ drops the floor will go crazy. Bringing up the rear is The Supermen Lovers, who drops pretty standard The Supermen Lovers fare, hypnotic French Disco, you know what you’re getting. We always knew A.N.D.Y.’s début would be pretty stunning, and he’s lived up to every expectation.

Jupiter’s ‘One O Six’ EP

jupiter

So, we already established that French ElectroPopsters Jupiter’s ‘One O Six’ is probably an ode to the Roland Juno 106 synthesizer when we wrote about the fantastic A.N.D.Y. reMix of the track. The whole single, including the B-Side is a pretty special collection of tracks that definitely deserves further investigation.

‘One O Six’ is a deep analog bass funkin’, synth stabbin’, dreamy vocal croonin’ slice of DiscoPop. Musically imbued with a particular French sense of humour, this is exactly the kind of bouncing quirky SynthPop we’ve come to expect from this twosome in the last few years. The B-Side, ‘Multicolorising’, many not have the catchy vocal hook of ‘One O Six’, but my word does it make up for it in tons of Cosmic Funk. Vocodered robot vocals chant melodically over thick Moog-esque bass and laser synth zaps. This is late ‘70’s/early ‘80’s electronic Disco amazingness and, to be honest, is the stand out track on the EP. We’ve already heard the stunning A.N.D.Y. reMix, the other reMixes on the single come courtesy of Juveniles with laid back French Disco mix, T.E.E.’s deep Acid track, and The Supermen Lovers with two reMixes, the ‘Classic’ mix which lays on the ‘70’s Disco hard, and this ‘Basic’ mix. A growling House cut lead by some intense percussion that takes the track deep and dark while retaining the groove. The ‘One O Six’ single is a top quality taster of what to expect from Jupiter’s forthcoming, and long awaited ‘Juicy Lucy’ album. We’ve heard it, it is seriously good. More on that later though.

Listening to French ElectroPop partnership Jupiter’s new single ‘One O Six’, it’s immediately obvious that the track is a homage to the Roland Juno 106 synthesizer. Saying that though, I suppose they could be singing about the Peugeot 106, or the 106 bus route that runs between Finsbury Park and Whitechapel in London, where the duo met. See how I slipped that in there? It’s called journalism bitches.

Alongside reMixes from the likes of Juveniles, The Supermen Lovers & Turzi Electronique Experience, the real highlight of the single is this version from is-he-or-isn’t-he-in-Mustang-anymore fella A.N.D.Y. and it’s an absolute blinder of a tune. Continuing in his tradition of mixing analog Disco grooves with bouncy ElectroPop synth lines, A.N.D.Y. one again throws loads of different elements into the pot and brews up a tasty DiscoPop stew. Driven by a crazy simple, but funky as all hell, bassline the track dips in and out of big retro stabs, lush strings and a hint of a Tropical flavour then nicely twists things about in a big building middle eight, that sounds like the theme to an ‘80’s cartoon about robots lost in space, before dropping you right back in the thick of the Disco.
