Freak You reMixes TheLook

thelook

On The Fruit Records head honcho Freak You must never sleep. Seriously, this guy must be hunched over racks of studio gear 24/7! Hot on the heels of his Goldroom reMix he’s just dropped another brand new track. This time a reMix for TheLook.

TheLook is one of the guys behind the blog/label Neonized and will soon be releasing ‘Nightwaves’ as a single, featuring, obviously, this reMix right here. Freak You pulls everything out the bag for this track and ends up with something that is both classy and classic. The riff it is based around is just pumping, it provides a really nice driving force for the rest of the tracks multitude of elements. Freak You drift’s further into a ‘90’s sound with this tune, but the ‘90’s was along time, a whole decade, and the Frenchman seems to work a little of the whole ten years into this one. From the percussion  to the progressive bass to the big piano hook, this is proper dance music. Freak You showing them all how it’s done again.

Clancy’s new single

clancy

It’s always a good day when something pops-up to tell you you’ve got mail from Rich Clancy, he always brings us the very best Dreamwave and Nu-Disco. But here’s we are with his new single, ‘Lightbox’ and it seems that the man has shrugged the Dreamwave and Nu-Disco aside, for this release at least, in favour of something altogether deeper, something more Housey.

And it works for him, not that his production chops were ever in doubt, and going back to his last release, the chilled ‘Bring You Joy’ a few months ago, you can kinda’ see the Disco to House progression occurring. So what does ‘Lightbox’ hold? Well, it’s a classic dance track, we’re definitely hearing elements of early ‘90’s House in there, it’s got a very Orbital sunrise feel to it. It’s an intricately crafter tune, with many layers going on, all of which sit together effortlessly and it’s probably the best thing we’ve heard this year on the blissed out House tip. If Clancy is releasing a string of singles over the summer the this summer could end up being extremely chilled and pretty euphoric,

Second Date’s ‘Young, Beautiful, Etc…’ video

Second Date’s ‘Young, Beautiful, Etc…’ has been out a while now, but it has finally got itself a video, for those who like that sort of thing.

Directed by Josh Smith, the video is quite simple, but works really well, and looks so nice. Mr. Smith’s camera work and colour palette making the clip a visual treat.

‘Young, Beautiful, Etc…’ is out now on Pschent.

Ellie Goulding & Monsieur Adi

Ellie-Goulding

So, earlier this month one of our favourite new artists of the last few years, Ellie Goulding, began the warm up to the new album with a brand new track. In this case it’s a cover of The Weekend’s ‘High For This’. We’re kinda’ in two minds about it, to make us feel less conflicted about the track, the marvel that is Monsieur Adi has come along with a reMix that we are definitely in one mind about.

Our mind is split about the original version because, although it’s wonderful to be hearing Ellie’s voice again, it really is, we’ve missed it, the production is a bit too..well, it’s hard to put our finger on it. Chiddy Bang’s Xaphoon Jones style is just a little too US Hip Hop flavoured, which makes it a worry that courting the lucrative North American market may have stripped much of what we loved about Miss Goulding. The quirkiness, the vulnerability, the intimacy in Ellie’s songs and the Britishness of  Starsmith’s (amongst others) production are what made us love her music. For those things to be stripped in favour of a slick American R&B Pop sound, or for her to put through the Cherrytree (her US label) AutoTune-generic-Pop machine, or for her to suddenly have big chucks of Skrillex on her music would be disastrous for her identity as an artist. We’ll see I suppose. Anyhoo, Adi is in the house, so it’s all good. And it really is. It things look bleak, all you need to feel better is Adi’s lush orchestration, which mixes with a laid back Electro beat that just seems the perfect match for Ellie. Of course it’s not the first time Adi & Goulding (which sounds like a buddy cop show) have danced together, but probably the most emotionally rich time. That Ellie chose Monsieur Adi for an official reMix leads us to believe, to borrow from Star Wars, ‘there’s still good in her’. I guess we just have to trust that she knows what she’s doing and that the songs come from artistry, not focus groups.

Queen Of Hearts Vs. Tinie Tempah

Queen Of Hearts

Well, this track has just about made my week! It’s ‘No More’, one of the extra tracks on the digital version of Queen Of Hearts current ‘Neon’/‘Tears In The Rain’ single, mashed-up with the instrumental of Tinie Tempah master hit ‘Pass Out’.

There’s not much more I can say about that. Awesome, instantly recognisable Electro track, awesome, epic vocals. Sorted. Frankly, if you don’t love this, you don’t love life, and are probably going to have a miserable weekend.

Lenno reMixes Gracias

Gracias

Here’s a new reMix from one of our favourite current Nu-Disco producers, The Finnish Lenno. Originally recorded for a re-cap video of a Nike event in Helsinki, the man has now made it available to download from his Facebook page.

We briefly check out out the original, it’s well done, but pretty standard Hip Hop from Gracias called ‘40k Volts’. Lenno has stripped it down to it’s barest essentially, keeping just the occasional snatched of vocal and the rebuilt it as a main room Nu-Disco stormer. Lenno has such a huge peak time sound that is fast becoming his trademark. Dropping an extra bit of House piano into the mix, Lenno actives an even fuller track, and a groove that is guaranteed to keep the dancefloor moving. Isn’t it about time for a new Lenno EP? We definitely think so.

The Penelopes reMixed by Gigamesh & Style Of Eye

The Penelopes

No sooner had ElectroPoppers The Penelopes premiered their forthcoming new single ‘Summer Life’ than we are treated to this first reMixes of the track, from Dreamwave genius Gigamesh and Swedish bass master Style Of Eye.

Style Of Eye’s mix is a big droning bass monster, balancing the airy nature of the track and his own high-octane Rave but combining floaty arpeggios and storming hands-in-the-air synths he turns the ElectroPop track into a full-on party starter. Gigamesh, on the other hand, wows us with his slick Disco. Giving the track a little extra Funk, Gigamesh layers infectious bass with waves of shimmering synth work and truly makes a track for the summer. The use of the vocals, tailored to Gigamesh’s tune, switches the track around a little, whist the original was for lazy reminiscing, this mic is for dancing in the sunshine. We’re really looking forward to seeing what else the reMix package holds.

Mirror People reMixes Munk

Munk

Portuguese prodigy, Mr. Rui Maia, A.K.A. Mirror People has dropped another of his bouncy electronic Funk reMixes, this time in the form of Gomma man Munk’s ‘Kitchen Call’ from his excellent ‘The Bird And The Beat’ album of last year.

Rui get’s a bit of Moroder in his blood for this reMix. Laden with popping analog synth bass and the subtlest snatches of vocal from the almost Hip Hop original. Replacing the breakbeat with a solid Disco groove this reMix rolls along, dragging you with it to the dancefloor, until the solo hits, then it just soars away. It’s definitely about time for a new Mirror People EP, don’t you think?
