Freezepop’s new ‘Doppelganger’ videos

One of our favourite cute SynthPop tracks of the last couple of years was long times faves Freezepop’s ‘Doppelganger’.

Now the video has been re-cut, the directors cut if you will, along with two new versions for the good ‘Goodnice’ reMix and the not quite so good ‘Badd-Bagg’ reMix.

You can see the two sides of Freezepop in their native environment here, and switch between the two.

T&K’s ‘Music Never Lies’

tk

French ElectroPop duo T&K have been pretty quite since the release of their ‘Magic Tank’ album and it’s accompanying reMix EP on On The Fruit Records last year. So it was a surprise to see them dropping a brand new track on their SoundCloud. A nice surprise though.

‘Music Never Lies’ is a quiet little tune that is very much on T&Ks’s style. With a sound akin to Freezepop, but with more floaty vocals. A quaint, SynthPop tune who’s sound comes from Britain via Paris. Gently buzzy synths and vintage drums roll along with toytown electric piano riffs and despite it;s roots in late ‘80’s SynthPop, there a definite ‘70’s vibe to the track. Slightly more introspective than T&K album work, maybe they were just in a pensive mood?

Pet Shop Boys’ ‘Invisible’ video

Here it is! The first new track from Pet Shop Boys highly anticipated forthcoming new album, ‘Elysium’.

Put together by Brian Bress, Pet Shop Boys and Andrew Dawson, they call it a short film for the track. How that differes from amusic video I have no idea, but they are Pet SHop BOys, I’ll take their word for it. The track is blissful, haunting and pure PSB. Excited.

‘Elysium’ is due for release this summer.

Goin’ Old School: A-Ha, Duran Duran & Sheena Easton

Goin’ Old School isn’t a trip down music memory lane, it’s a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia:

A-Ha with ‘The Living Daylights’ from 1987. Oh no, there’s no theme here…

From 10985, Duran Duran’s ‘A View To A Kill’. OK, maybe there is a theme going on…

In 1981, just coming out of the ‘70’s, Sheena Easton with ‘For Your Eyes Only’. Yeah, can;t really get away from the theme now.

Aaron Alexis’s ‘This Fire’

aaron-alexis

Brooklyn based ElectroChillPop merchant Aaron Alexis has dropped a brand new track, it’s a bit of a departure from the Aaron Alexis we all know and love. ‘This Fire’ is a collaboration with Drew from She’s The Queen and sees Aaron dipping his toes in the waters of something altogether more Poppy.

You know that this collaboration is going to be pretty amazing before even hitting play. It seems pretty redundant at this point to go on about how much we like Aaron’s songs and how much of a production genius Drew is, that what the search box to your right is for. So now that we’ve establish that two of New Yorks most talented are coming together for this track, what dos it hold? Well, it’s insanely catchy for one thing, catchy in a Kylie way, the bouncy SynthPop bassline and Aaron’s infectious vocal hook in the chorus have a lot of classic British Pop in their DNA. Admittedly, ‘This fire’ has a slight streak of darkness that I don’t think would suit Kylie, but Aaron’s husky drawl suits it perfectly. While this is going on Drew takes up channelling bits of Pet Shop Boys and New Order through his crystal clear production. The prefect track for a sunny day.

New single from Aminova

Aminova

It’s been ages since we last wrote about Cardiff based SynthWave producer Aminova, so with the release of his new double A-side single, ‘Body Double’/’Party Cops’ we thought now was the prefect time to revisit one of the UK’s most underrated producers.

‘Body Double’ is a piercing, driving slice of classic SynthWave. Drawing from both the Outrun and Italo end of things, Aminova crafts a tune that is both full of urgent dancefloor energy and rousing, emotional melodies. The way the lead lines switch from staccato riffs to rushing arpeggios and back again give the all too short track a real feeling for forward progression. the flip side, ‘Party Cops’ is definitely more on the Italo tip. With more of an ‘80’s Electro Funk groove ‘Party Cops’ is a call to dance. The bassline and arpeggios are actually quite reminiscent of mid-‘80’s electronic Soul, but layered with buzzsaw retro synth chords and an Italo beat the whole thing come across as a slightly chaotic, exciting, and again all too short, party starter. This sweet double A-Side single is available for free, you really can’t go wrong at that price, so what are you waiting for, go get it!

Mirror Kisses

Mirror Kisses

American SynthPop duo Mirror Kisses stopped by the electronic rumors Inbox over the weekend to drop off their latest tune. This duo hail from Virginia and produce some pretty authentic sounding ‘80’s tracks and are currently previewing tunes from their forthcoming ‘Bad Dreams’ album.

Their latest track to get your sonic juices flowing is ‘Proud’, three minutes of sumptuous epic SynthPop. Catchy, with a melancholic edge the track mixes up a driving beat and sweet melodies with moody vocals and ominous chords to create a sound that could easily fit in the current, post-HURTS, wave of *ahem* Dark Pop (Sweet Raptor Jesus, I hate that term). It a rousing track that pushes it’s emotion to the forefront and manages to feel nostalgic without feeling like a pastiche. ‘Takeover’ is another track from their new LP,  it’s more of an upbeat number with an optimistic groove to it and instrumentation that leans toward classic ‘80’s movie soundtracks.  These two tracks hint at a album that’ll deliver a collection that is both rich in synthesizer warmth and cold as ice. Mirror Kisses are definitely an duo that we’ll be keeping an eye on in the coming months.

Goin’ Old School: SSQ, Jean Michel Jarre & Cyndi Lauper

Goin’ Old School isn’t a trip down music memory lane, it’s a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia:

The awesome pre-Stacey Q SSQ first with ‘Synthicide’ from 1983.

From 1984’s ‘Zooklook’ album, the 1985 single release of ‘Zoolookologie’ by the master Jean Michel Jarre.

Cyndi Lauper’s ‘The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough’ from 1984. Richard Donner directed the video. Oh shut up!

Jordan F’s ‘A New Day

jordan-f

Australian top -tier SynthWave producer Jordan F is back with another new track, ‘A New Day’. I kinda’ get the feeling that since his reversion back to the Jordan F moniker after a brief spell as Countach, that he’s working toward something, that these new tracks being deliver are taking us on a journey toward something special. Is it nearly album time maybe?

‘A New Day’ is a beautiful track that really captures the feeling embodied in it’s title. It’s a bright, optimistic tune, laying out, sonically, the promise of a fresh start and new horizons after a set-back. Jordan’s use of upbeat drums and sparkling layers of synths alongside a happy, bouncy bassline in this track are something you can’t help but smile at, even if you’re having a shitty day, and I think that;s the point of the track. But all that is beside the point once you hit Jordan’s epic soloing, pure synth shredding that will leave you slack-jawed and in awe as this rush of synthesizer music emotion washed over you. Also, in a real world situation, I’m just going to have this track hand on y mp3 player for the long cold walks home in the blinding morning light after all-night clubbing adventures.
