Lenno reMixes Atlas Genius

atlas-genius1

Following on from Fred Falke’s blistering reMix of Australian Indie rockers Atlas Genius’s new single, Trojans, Finnish master of the big room Lenno takes his urn to rework the track. Lenno has long been one of our favourite Disco-House producers and with this new mix he doesn’t disappoint.

Just one of a bunch of high-profile reMixes Lenno has been dropping in the past few months, this mix shows of the young producer’s peak time Disco sound and works it amazingly into this Indie tune, creating a big vocal House track with tons of Indie Pop swing. Lenno keeps the song itself intact, but replaces the Indie backing with lush, euphoric, piano driven dancefloor sweetness. The prefect feel-good groover.

I Am In Love’s ‘Palm’

I am in love shoot by Amy Brammall

Following on from their acclaimed track I Want You, London Indie-Electro quartet I Am In Love are releasing their new single, Palm, in October. It’s a track that’s been kicking around for a while but it’s impending release makes this as good a time as any to feature it.

Palm is a genre defying wall of beautiful noise. Taking cues from Shoegaze, EBM, ElectroPop and ‘80’s Indie, the song confronts you with wall-of-sound guitars tempered with a Euro Industrial synth bassline and impassioned Post-Punk vocals. It’s like a compendium of every thing great about Indie music in the ‘80’s, with a contemporary sheen. Luckily, for us, it feel mostly like a SynthPop track, full of urgency and a nervous tension that drives the song to it’s conclusion.

The Penelopes reMix Glitches

Glitches

Our favourite two Frenchmen lost in London The Penelopes recently reMixed fellow London denizens, Electro-Indie band Glitches forthcoming single, Dust & Shadow. This Bethnal Green/Whitechapel soundclash has resulted in one of the funkiest Indie tracks of the summer.

This reMixes plays to both Glitches and The Penelopes strengths. Glitches dual range vocals belt out in an epic style. Emotional and passionate, the vocal track sits perfectly on The Penelope’s bass led  DiscoPop. Driven by a bassline you can help bobbing to, this track lays the shimmering synth lines on thick. Bright melodies play against otherworldly pads and energetic arpeggios to create an organic sounding synth symphony that seems to evolve naturally as it progresses. It’s got a groove that guaranteed to keep the dancefloor moving too.

Glitches – Dust & Shadow (The Penelopes reMix)

Dust & Shadow is due out 8th October.

Virgin Magnetic Material reMixes Echo & The Bunnymen

Echo & The Bunnymen

If you’re not familiar with the reMix work of Virgin Magnetic Material, you should be. Usually we have a dim view of ‘artists’ who do nothing but reMixes, but Tel Aviv’s Shai Vardi just has a knack for picking the right tunes, and doing exactly the right thing with them. It doesn’t hurt that he refers to himself as a ‘reMix project’ rather than a producer or artist. Whatever he calls himself, almost all of his reMixes, and there are loads, hit just the right spot.

His latest work is a reMix of Echo & The Bunnymen’s 1984 Indie hit The Killing Moon, a track we may have mentioned before we have a soft spot for. VMM does exactly the right thing with the track, doesn’t try to turn it into a dance classic, or a floorfiller but works with the mood of the song, transforming it into a moody electronic masterpiece full of drama and tension. Slowly building on top of the deep rolling bass with layers upon layers of dark synths and plucked strings throughout the track until it reaches it’s climax, VMM crafts a powerful listening experience that actually does the original justice.

Kelek reMixes Freedom Fry

Freedom Fry

Coming up right behind Starcadian’s amazing reMix of NYC Indie-Electro duo Freedom Fry’s Summer In the City, comes this mix from one of our favourite German producers Kelek. Where as Staracadian took a lush, urban approach to the track, Kelek goes all out 80’s Italo. No lazy, smooth electric pain here, this is aimed squarely at the dancefloor.

Kelek really knows how to work a melody, his reMix of Summer In The City works layers of synthesizer hooks into one powerful whole. A killer Italo bassline underpins the track, immensely energetic, providing a rock solid core for rich chords, sparkling leads and just the right amount of vocal to make this track a proper retro smash. Whereas Starcadian’s reMix was a chilled out, introspective vibe, this version of the track is all about dancefloor euphoria. It’s uplifting as hell, and catchy enough to stick in your heal all day.

Gold Fields reMix Hunting Grounds

Hunting Grounds

Australian Indie-Electro outfit Gold Fields came to our attention with their reMixes of Passion Pit and Yelle, and their track Moves (with it’s Yuksek reMix), earlier this year. Now they’ve turned their attention to felloe Antipodean Indie band Hunting Grounds who are releasing this single, Flaws, ahead of their new album, In Hindsight.

The reMix is a blissful slice of piano led Indie-Disco in that way only the Aussies can really do. Lush buzzing synths roll around in this mix that is just Indie enough for a summery party vibe and just Disco enough to get you grooving. complete with the requisite Indie-Electro “Ooo, Ooo”s and all the ingredients for a warm weather anthem, Gold Fields deliver yet another instant classic reMix.

Jordan F reMixes Sun City

Sun City

We don’t know too much about Perth based Indie-Electro duo Sun City at this point, although they may well deserve out further investigation. What we do know, however, is Australia’s greatest SynthWave export Jordan F. The latter has reMixed the formers’ track Zoetrope, and it’s chilled out retro radness.

Jordan’s been releasing quite a lot lately, it seems like he’s got his groove back and is bringing his A-game to every track he drops. This reMix of Zoetrope is a delicate retro workout loaded with nostalgia and innocence. Taking the best of the quiet moments in 80’s movie synth soundtracks and applying them liberally to a laid back beach groove works perfectly with the introspective vocals. What you are left with is  a track that hides rich emotional power in it’s beautiful electronic dream.

Shiny Toy Guns’ ‘Fading Listening’

ShinyToyGuns

Are our favourite Electro-Rockers Shiny Toy Guns finally getting the Dreamwave fever? Their new single Fading Listening, the second to be taken from their forthcoming album III is funky as hell, and that’s not necessarily a thing you usually say about Shiny Toy Guns. Neither are ‘tropical’, ‘beach Funk’ or ‘laid back groove’, but these things might have to be said now.

Fading Listening is a surprising track from these guys. It’s also very good. It’s so surprising, I still can’t believe it’s them. Adding a little Tropical flavour to their music, as is fashionable, I could get my head around, but Fading Listening is is full-on Binary style Dreamwave. Mixing up a little beach Funk with their duet, Shiny Toy Gun deliver a laid back groove, full of nostalgia and good vibes. We were pretty interested in their upcoming new album, if it’s full of vintage Pop like this, we’re pretty excited.

Good Night Keaton reMixes Saint Lou Lou

Saint Lou Lou

If you haven’t picked up the new single from Australian girl duo Saint Lou Lou, released this week in Kitsuné, you should. It’s been stuck in my head since last week, and that’s not a bad thing. If something is going to be on repeat in your mind, then this is a pretty good song to have stuck. If you need any more convincing check out the reMix from Good Night Keaton.

Good Night Keaton, is, you’ll know by now, Aaron Shanahan, drummer form the mighty Miami Horror. having just reMixed Gigamesh he’s going from strength to strength with his deep Disco tracks. With Maybe You Good Night Keaton brings his sweeping, all encompassing, Disco to the mix which seems  to completely lift the girls catchy vocal hook to a breezy Disco place. Tropical percussion and stabbing retro synths are all present and correct, but Shanahan production style owes a little to the Indie-Elector of Miami Horror, resulting in a fresh summery slice of euphoria.
