Rumor

rumor

Rumor is UK House producer Chris White who mainly drops tunes of the Progressive or Tech persuasion. Now, I’m not usually a massive fan of Prog or Tech (especially Tech) but Chris’ tracks have somehow wormed their way into my brain. And if two Englishmen can’t find common ground over the fact that they both spell ‘rumor’ like Americans, then the terrorists have won.

I’ve picked the two standout original tunes for me, ‘Glow’ and ‘Dirty Hands’. It’s all about the deep groove round Rumor’s way, hypnotic and beautiful, like an audio black hole, drawing you in, and possible destroying you at the same time. ‘Glow’ is a late night jam for darkened dancefloors with killer percussion and the deepest of Deep House hooks, while ‘Dirty Hands’ is like a smooth cyborg juggernaut, as soulful as it is menacing.

Happy Hunting

Happy Hunting

The mysterious and enigmatic Happy Hunting recently released their début EP, ‘Pitchblack, containing four tracks of interesting and involving art Pop.

This London based Duo manage to walk the thin line (if there is a thin line there?) between haunting and catchy. Although not quite Shoegaze-esque wall-of-sound, Happy Haunting’s eclectic and experimental strain of Indie-Electro is, at times, more soundscape than song, but a sweet and soulful vocal always seems to keep the tracks in line. The end result is a collection of songs that are both indicate, complex music labyrinths and infections Pop tunes. ‘Pitchblack’ is a pretty impressive début.

The Opiates reMixed by Drop Out Orchestra

The Opiates

What you have here is the voice of Miss Billie Ray Martin, here in her The Opiates guise with producer Robert Solheim, and the slick groove of Swedish Disco duo Drop Out Orchestra. If that’s not enough to have you hitting the play button then there’s something very wrong with you.

Those  wicked Disco licks and cosmic synths are the perfect backing to completely redefine Billie’s vocals into a smooth, late night jam. Billie’s soulful, slightly husky, delivery leans itself effortlessly to Drop Out’s laid back vibe. Funking into the night!

The Opiates – Reality TV (Drop Out Orchestra  Dub)

The Opiates’ ‘Hollywood under The Knife’ album is out now, this track is taken from a forthcoming reMix album.

New tunes from Kid Machine

kid machine

Manchester’s Kid Machine is rapidly charging from being a SynthWave newcomer to being a UK Italo force to be reckoned with.

Getting major support recently from the likes of Italo mega-authority Flemming Dalum, Kid’s tracks are veering more and more into the late night Italo dancefloor and ‘80’s Sci-Fi TV theme territory as he hones his skills with robotic beats and dark futuristic atmospheres. Early next month sees the release of his ‘Dragon’ single on renowned Italo label Relux Rimini. Already getting some impressive mixtape support, ‘Dragon’ is pretty eagerly awaited round these parts. Until the single drops tide yourself over with this choice selection from Kid Machine’s recent prolific output. He truly is one of UK electronic music’s rising starts.

The Cut Copy tour DJ’s ‘Serves You Right’ is a Funk fuelled slice of synthetic Nu-Disco. All Moog Funk basslines, exotic percussion and electro toms this track is the logical progression from his last two 12”s as Knightlife does what he’s known for, straight-up, no letting-up, dancefloor boogie.

SaiR reMixes Cavaliers Of Fun

cavaliers-of-fun1

Our favourite Portuguese producer SaiR has taken on the lead track from Cavaliers Of Fun recent ‘Sharing Space Secrets’ EP, ‘Passengers’, for his latest mix.

Keeping it smooth with a night time vibe, SaiR works Ricco’s vocals into a laid back slice of synthesizer Funk featuring the very best in head nodding basslines and quirky little lead riffs.  Ruben from SaiR certainly knows how to twist a synth line to his funky will and makes the track so slick and chilled that you can just let is wash over you like a wave of groove.
