[Download] Computer Magic’s ‘Dreams Of Better Days (Don’t Pass Me By)’ & ‘Shipwrecking’

As you’ve probably heard, seen the Instagram photos, felt a tiny bit jealous about, the east coast of the US has been hit with an awesome blizzard in recent days. Being this snowed in can be a godsend for musicians who get forced to be shut in and writing songs. Danz A.K.A. Computer Magic, Brooklyn’s queen of synth DreamPop too the opportunity to produce a brand new tune; Dreams Of Better Days (Don’t Pass Me By). The track is not one appearing on Computer Magic’s forthcoming LP, so she’s giving it away for free. Yay!

Bits of Dreams Of Better Days (Don’t Pass Me By) certainly capture a wintery mood, but the whole track rolls along on a warm funk; delivered by raw drum samples and rounded synth bass. This meeting of icy and comforting really does capture the mood of being snowed in. Danz’s dainty vocal drifts in and out of the track, with a Chillwave, reverby edge, swapping prominence with buzzing electronics. Dreams Of Better Days (Don’t Pass Me By) has us well looking forward to the album.

Update: Since we wrote this (‘cos we tend to write at the weekend) Danze has unleashed another new track on her SoundCloud page. Shipwrecking is a effervescent exercise in garage SynthPop. Sounding like early an 90s Shoegaze tune recreated with vintage synths. Organic and fresh, Shipwrecking is the most fun you can have with synths and a voice and a healthy dose of Indie nostalgia.

[Download] MiGHty mOUse’s ‘Ghetto Heaven’

The UK’s Disco powerhouse MiGHty mOUse has a whole bunch of gigs coming up, including a six house set at XOYO later this month; and what does any DJ worth their salt do when there’s gigs coming up? They get reMixing. The object of the mOUse’s is a tine that takes us right back. Family Stand’s Ghetto Heaven. Those beautiful hi-hats are gone, but an Italo-esque bouncy synth injection more than makes up for it.

MiGHty mOUse’s brings it pretty full-on with this radical workout. I think the man is playing things down when it;s referred to as an edit, this is a full blown reMix as he whips those instantly recognisable vocals into contemporary dancefloor shape with sweeping synths, an infectious rubbery bassline and a rock solid groove. Maybe it’s just ‘cos we’re listening to this one with our headphones turned right up, but this one seems to envelops you, and you can’t help but move to it. [Download] Nude Disco edits Philip Oakey & Giorgio Moroder’s ‘Be My Lover Now’

London synth Disco collective Nude Disco are gearing up for the release of their second compilation album. Out soon, if Selections Vol. 2 is anything like the first album we’re in for a treat. To hype thing up a bit, Vern is releasing some of his own edits to get your musical juices flowing. First up is this stomping dancefloor take on Lord Philip Oakey & Giorgio Moroder’s third single from their self titled 1984 album; Be My Lover Now.

This is an edit in the truest sense of the word. Vern has taken what works best from his years of DJing experience, taken the track apart, and re-rolled it into the kind of thing that packs his monthly Brixton club night. Bigger sounding beats, bigger sounding bass, driving hi-hats; but leaving the spirit of the song intact; ‘cos you don’t fuck with Oakey and Moroder. The result is a nice crate secret weapon. Apparently there’s more on the way.

[Download] Empire Of The Sun’s ‘Wandering Star’ reMixes by Final DJs

Germany’s première SynthWave outfit Final DJs have turned in another one of their monster, euphoric, slices of synthesizer gold. This time of target of the Sci-Fi workout is the Southern Hemisphere’s most mystical ElectroPop duo, Empire Of the Sun. Final DJs have got to grips with their track, Wandering Star, and turned it into a cinematic synth masterpiece.

There is some absolutely gorgeous sounds in this reMix. At it’s heart the tune is a deft mix of SynthWave and Nu-Disco, pretty standard dancefloor fare, but coupled with Final DJs’ flair for vintage synths and soaring solos the tune is elevated to a higher place. A hands-in-the-air moment for the Dreamwave crowd, this tune should be soundtracking peak time at retro synth nights across the globe.

[Download] Teeel’s ‘Imperial’ reMixed by MNYNMS

Here’s something petty sweet and blissful to kick off you week. This storming reMix of our favourite new Jersey synth master Teeel’s Imperial comes from new Texan duo MNYNMS (who shall henceforth be referred to as Many Names). Putting aside for a second our hatred of artists who just have names they’ve dropped the vowels from (c’mon, it’s not 2007 any more!), this is an absolutely beautiful slice of synthesizer gold that offers up something for both the feet and the heart.

Dropping the tempo and heaping on the lushness, MNYNMS give the track their own spin. Subtly introducing a slight laid back Deep House groove that has been wrapped up in warm SynthPop swirls to Imperial, this reMix takes all the things we love Teeel for (classic synthetics, majestic, magical and galactic moods and a relaxed dancefloor vibe) and runs with them; culminating in a richly textured and emotionally resonant SynthPop tune that demands to be stuck on repeat. Let this one carry you away.

It’s the season of giving; a fact that hasn’t escaped one of our favourite producers of Disco and House, Sweedish groovemeister Sweedish artists, ODahl. The man is giving away his latest tune that caps off a year where we’ve seen a little more of ODahl after a quiet stretch. Tunes like Your Love, released earlier this year on Pole Position, have been a bit of a constant in our headphones around these parts. Tuck in to his latest jam, 37 Celsius.

ODahl serves up a warm and involving deep sound on 37 Celsius. Blending several House disciplines into one comfortable whole, the Swede brings a little Deep, a little Bass, a little Chicago and a little Disco into seven minutes of smooth-as-silk dancefloor gold. Vocal snatches pepper the track, building the atmosphere, whole ODahl’s solid beats keep the groove. Hold tight for the four minute mark where things get a tad warehouse.

[Download] JBAG reMixes Scarlet Fantastic’s ‘No Memory’

The awesome Continental Records has just released the second round of reMixes of 1987 classic No Memory from Scarlet Fantastic. The first incarnation of this reMix onslaught contained work from the likes of Luke Million, Pherotone and Mighty K, and just two months later the second EP is unleashed this week. This time around label boss Jerry Bouthier’s own JBAG duo leads the charge with this deep, Topical ElectroPop rework.

A departure from JBAG’s usual straight up DiscoPop masterpieces, this reMix of No Memory takes in some broader influences. With a jump-up beat and a breezy Island groove, the tune is more Chilled than we are used to from this pair, but still retains a solid dancefloor feel. Airy licks permeate a buoyant track loaded with heavy synth bass and a healthy dose of Reverb. The original’s vocals are used sparingly and with a haunting quality. [Download] Zimmer reMixes Wunder Wunder’s ‘Midnight Hours’

Los Angeles based Miami Horror spin-off Wunder Wunder have a habit of choosing the smoothes of producers for their reMixes. Back in the summer we vibed to Goldroom’s take on their tune Coastline; now Parisian Horizontal Disco mastermind Zimmer turns in this lazy, poolside jam in his version of Midnight Hours. The track is taken from Wunder Wunder’s début album, Everything Infinite.

Zimmer serves up a chilled mix of laid back piano and swirling pads alongside a woody Disco groove. The sleepy vibes are the prefect accompaniment for the original’s Psychedelic Pop sensibilities, creating something dancefloor friendly, but dreamy and spaced out. Stick this in your headphones and sink into the sounds.

[Download] Strangers cover Shakespeare’s Sister’s ‘Stay’

The reigning champs of epic and emotional British Pop, Strangers, are currently holed up in their studio putting the finishing touches to their eagerly awaited début full length record. Whilst the album is given all due spit and polish, Dave took a breather to indulge himself in this cover version. We gotta’ say, taking on Shakespeare’s Sister’s Stay is pretty fucking brave. The track is so imbued with Siobhan and Marcella’s personality that all you can do is completely make it your own, and that can be hard with such a defining track. Let’s see how Strangers does.

Dave doesn’t;t even try to ape Shakespeare’s Sister (which is probably a good plan), preferring to take an amazing well written song and treat it like it came straight out of Stranger’s studio. The vocals are given a bar-room bluesy treatments that pairs nicely with the tracks haunting piano. The piano, of course, soon gives way to a symphony of pulsating electronic bass and rising synth riffs set to a skippy vintage drum pattern. Thanks Dave; that’ll do nicely until Raife has finished mixing the album, now get on with it!

[Download] Cavaliers Of Fun reMixes Gwen Stefani’s ‘Baby Don’t Lie’

Mediterranean Dreamwaver Cavaliers Of Fun is has just dropped this brand new sunshine-y reMix to warm your ears this winter. Ricco has been quite quiet for a while, but he’s chosen to remind you all of his holiday vibes with this take on Gwen Stefani’s ‘comeback’ single of earlier this year, Baby Don’t Lie.

Ricco keeps a lot of the original intact on his version, the vocals, backing vocals and lead line are all present and correct; but added to this you have both the Cavaliers Of Fun pumping Disco bass, and Vitali’s disturbing love of beach guitar. The end result is a version of the single with the groove turned up to 10, it’s not a massive departure from Stefani’s vision, but enough to make it supremely dancefloor friendly.
