[Audio] Tommy ’86’s ‘Disco Machine’

Tommy '86

French SynthWave maestro come retro-Disco groover Tommy ‘86 (y’know, used to be just Tommy) today releases his brand new EP. Fittingly titled Disco Machine this is the latest in a long line of quality releases from one of the shining lights of the SynthWave scene. We’ve long been followers of Tommy ‘86’s career here on electronic rumors and are excited to hear each new tune. Check out the EP’s title track below.

High octane dancefloor thrills and spills is what your in for with Disco Machine. From it’s opening vocoded announcement, the track blares along on energetic Italo arpeggios and lush vintage keys. Tommy’s got to soling down pat on this one, as he delivers soaring lead lines over the rapid fire Boogie backing. Living up to it’s moniker 100%, this track truly is a Disco Machine.

[Audio] Shook reMixes Great Good Fine OK’s ‘Too Much To Handle’

Great Good Fine OK

We’ve made no secret of the fact that Dutch musical master Shook is one of our favourite Disco producers around. The multi-instrumentalist adds a layer of musicality to his music that many of his contemporary producers can’t manage. Most recently he’s lent his talents to Brooklyn based Indie outfit Great Good Fine OK in reMixing their new single Too Much To Handle. This single is released ahead of their 2M2H EP to be released later this month.

Shook has a little fun with this reMix. For his take on Too Much To Handle he’s whipped up a bouncy, vintage affair. Quite stripped back and subtle, Shook decides not to got for the big, attention grabbing reMix tricks in favour of delivering a sweet, chilled, tune that borrows much from 80s Soul and captures some perfect Sunday afternoon listening vibes.

Chromatics

Johnny Jewel has shared another new track from the forthcoming Chromatics album, Dear Tommy, the follow up to their 2012 near-classic Kill For Love.. Following last month’s unveiling of the albums initial single, Just Like You, Jewel and the gang have lifted the lid on the second taste of what’s to come from Chromatics. This one is called I Can Never Be Myself When You’re Around.

In contrast to Just Like You’s subtly downtempo vibes, I Can’ Never Be Myself When You’re Around is more energetic vintage Disco. A magical soundscape of lush synths and undulating rhythms, I Can Never Be Myself When You’re Around provides an electrically charged platform for Ruth Radelet’s vocals (and backing vocals from Megan Louise From Desire) at their dreamy finest.

[Audio] Róisín Murphy’s ‘Jealousy’

roisin-murphy

Last month leftfield DiscoPop queen Róisín Murphy announced her forthcoming new album, Hairless Toys, with a sneak peek at the first single from the record, Gone Fishing. In parallel to this, though, she’s teamed up with DJ Parrot (of Sweet Exorcist and The All Seeing I fame) for a one off release via Crosstown Rebels of this storming floorfiller, Jealousy. Due out next week, the tune was premièred by Annie Mac last week, check it out.

Whereas as the album allows Murphy to flex her musical muscles (she always injects her dance music with a certain avant garde quality) this single is right at home on Crosstown Rebels, being a pure club experience. Jealousy is a stripped back tune, distilled dancefloor ingredients, where Róisín’s vocals ride over eight minutes of a punchy House bass infused hypnotic groove. It’s not until the halfway point that the track really lets loose, adding an electric piano hook and a rising vocal arrangement to the mix. The whole affair has got a classic sound, due in part to Róisín’s vocals, which are so much a part of UK dance music history, and would slot neatly into almost any set.

[Video] Tear Council’s ‘Anywhere’

Tear Council Anywhere Official Video YouTube

The gloriously retro début single from ex-Van She man Matt Van Schie and ex-Van She man Touch Sensitive, Tear Council’s Anywhere, has not as a spanking new music video to go with it’s lavish, emotional SynthPop.

Miška Mandić directs the clip, a suitably vintage affair that pains the duo with a sixties spy thriller performance vibe featuring a guest appearance from backing vocalist Holiday Sidewinder.

[Audio] Avan Lava’s ‘Wanna’ Live’

avan-lava_thumb

Brooklyn rising stars Avan Lava continue to showcase tracks from their forthcoming new EP, Make It Real. Last Month we were treated to Leave It All Behind and this week we can take a listed to another new track; Wanna’ Live. The EP is set for release at the end of this month via JD Samson’s Atlas Chair imprint. Like the EP’s début tune, this one continues their journey into huge House-Pop tracks.

Wanna’ Live really takes the concept of a big chorus and runs with it. The verses in this tune are, by comparison, quiet moments. Deep House-ish grooves roll under heartfelt vocals until that snare roll kicks in and then the chorus brings in the Trance leads and massive pads.Walking dangerously close to the line of trite throwaway dance music, Avan Lava keep from falling into that precipice with some classic and emotional songwriting and a passionate vocal performance. The end result really works in their favour.

[Download] Ben Macklin & Le Flex’s ‘Escape’

ben-macklin

After having him reMix his tune Dare, London Tropical groover Ben Macklin has teamed up with Le Flex to produce a brand new original track. Released this week in Macklin’s SoundCloud page, Escape is available as a free download, which is generous of him. Check out the smooth sounds of Escape below.

This is exactly the kind of poolside House jam we love Mr. Macklin for, with an added upbeat injection from Le Flex. Smooth as hell, Escape is dripping with a chilled summertime vibe built on an infectious bass hook and stabbing synths. The percussive keys give it that Topical flavour, but doesn’t overpower it’s laid back House credentials. We’re putting this in the pile marked ‘summer soundtrack’; we can’t wait for better weather to blast this one.

[Audio] Hemingway’s ‘Lost Tribe’

hemingway

Torontonian Disco experimentalist Hemingway always serves up something interesting with every tune he releases, which means we pay attention whenever a new track appears. This one right here comes from  the Stratford Ct. 1yr Anniversary Compilation, which is apparently a compilation to mark the one year anniversary of another compilation. It’s worth checking out if just for Lost Tribe, Hemingway’s latest compelling offering.

Hemingway offers up some seriously intoxicating Disco sounds on this one. Intricately crafted, Lost Tribe takes distant elements and melds them into an amazingly funky whole, all held in place by a hi-hat heavy rhythm and a warbling bass. Haunting sound drop in and out of the mix and lilting, emotional melodies drift around the track, making it something wildly more cerebral than it’s contemporaries, but all the time keeping the dancefloor vibes strong.

[Audio] Betamaxx’s ‘Dreamer’

Betmaxx

It’s nearly time for the release of the new album from Pittsburgh based SynthWaver Betamaxx. The new full length records, titled Plug & Play, is due out later this month via Telefuture Records and promises some gloriously vintage synth sounds if this just unleashed teaser is anything to go by. Featuring vocal work from Rat Rios, check out album track Dreamer.

Kicking off with an authentically 80s synth riff, Dreamer bodes well for the forthcoming album. A warm and catchy track in which Betamaxx’s lush retro SynthPop is perfectly paired with Rat Rio’s particularly 80s sounding vocal arrangement. Driving and energetic, the track builds and builds toward it choruses which explode in a cascade of energy. An absolute must for SynthPop lovers. We can’t wait for the LP.
