[Video] Hervé & Maria Minerva’s ‘Gold’

We really like the direction London bassmeister Hervé has taken with his new album. it;s great to see artists trying something a bit different and Hervé has put together 9 tracks of experimental, beautiful, moody compositions and collaborations. One of the standouts being his new single, featuring Maria Minerva, Gold.

Tim Kelly directs the video, with visuals as hypnotic and woozy as the track’s sonics.

Hervé’s Art Of Disappearing album is out 4th March on Cheap Thrills.

[MP3] Room8 cover Phil Collins

Room8

Room8 are still a bit of an enigma. Ezra Reich and Nic Johns seem to exist outside of the SynthWave scene, but sprung up from nowhere with a collaboration with Electric Youth and album art by The Zonders, yet no-one really knows who they are. A more suspicious mind might think there was fairly big label backing there, The Zonders don’t come cheap. Anyhoo, regardless of where they came from, they are producing some pretty kickin’ music, most recently this cover of Sir Philip of Collins’ One More Night.

Turning Phil Collins’ heartfelt croon into a robot’s lament, Room8 liberally apply vocoding and modulation to the vocals over a Kraftwerk inspired backing. Taking a slightly rawer sound than the majority of SynthWave, Room8’s cover powers along on frantic arpeggios and piercing lead lines. Drums, rough and heavy in the mix, relentlessly march toward the end where a Sax solo smooth’s out the song somewhat. Room8’s gritty take on SynthWave is something s little different, check it out.

[MP3] Clancy’s ‘Sleepless Nights’

clancy_thumb

Clancy’s on a roll right now. This time last month he delivered the Chicago House jam, How To Hold On To You, which is still being played round these parts, and this month he’s dropping another free tune. Now well and truly on the House tip, Clancy bring it smooth House for Sleepless Nights, a dance tune for insomniacs.

Sleepless Nights has got that deep, soulful, House vibe that you associate with late nights, hot summers and soft focus early 90s videos. Lavish low bass and synths rub shoulders with a groovy electric piano and the vocal sample fading in and out of the track list a ghost. A true midnight tune, this one is for that magical point in the night when the world holds it;s breath and you loose yourself in the music.

[Audio] Rush Midnight’s new single

Rush Midnight

In a haunting combination of icy dystopian synths and warm human vocals, Brooklyn Indie-ElectroPop artist Rush Midnight (Twin Shadow bassist Russ Manning) unleashes his new single from Cascine this week. It’s first track to be taken from his forthcoming album, due out later this year, which follows on from his critically acclaimed +1 EP of last year.

The new single, Don’t Give Me Your Love, is a melting pot of elements that make up a surprising whole. Lo-Fi beats and a rolling Indie-Electro bassline would seem to make strange bedfellows with SynthWave’s 80s soundtrack synths and vintage Pop leads, but it works amazingly well. Add to this Russ’ husky, delay washed vocals, that lend the track a personal quality and you’ve got a blissful ElectroPop tune that words dramatic BladeRunner synthscapes and introspective bedroom Pop at the same time. Wonderful.

[Video] Golden Bug’s ‘One Way’

Here’s the video for Golden Bug’s recent single, One Way, featuring Tristesse Contemporaine’s Mau. A Numandoid slice of Electro loaded Pop.

The clip, directed by Florcita Naif and Pablo Maffesini, is suitably retro, upping the deadpan leather SynthPop vibe.

[Audio] Yuksek reMixes C2C

C2C

Who’s up for another Yuksek reMix. Like the ambassadors tray loaded with Ferrero Rocher, Yuksek is spoiling us with practically a new reMix every week these days. Today’s subject is French turntablists C2C’s track Genius, which frankly is less scratch orchestra and more smooth Disco Funk featruing the vocals of Gush.

So smooth vocal Disco Funk is, of course, the prefect jumping off point for someone like Yuksek as he morphs the track into something typically French Pop Electro. The track rises and falls throughout it’s entirety as Yuksek brings you in and out of each section. A Morse code piano hook hammers away it’s message in the background while chunky synths and twisted vocal snatches flow through the tune. just when you think Yuksek has peaked it, he takes it higher. Classic Yuksek.

[Audio] AlunaGeorge’s Attracting Flies’

AlunaGeorge

London Electro R&B duo AlunaGeorge have gone from humble beginnings to being a music blogosphere destroying juggernaut 9amusingly, the first sentence we wrote about them, two years ago now, was “You really could be looking at the ‘next big thing’ here.”, which I‘m sure earns us internet points, at the very least a ‘Tastemaker, First Class’ badge? Their forthcoming new single was premièred on Radio 1 last night and hit SoundCloud minutes later. We noticed blog posts about two minutes after it went up…it’s 3 minutes long! That’s clout (or magic)!

Anyhoo, the new track, Attracting Flies, is actually one of their best. It’s got the quirky R&B swing these guys do so well, this time with a heavier beat. A live favourite, Attracting Flies sees Aluna at her funniest. Not usually renown for her comedy skills, she spits (albeit in a velvety way) a razor sharp wit on this tune. Bringing a London Soul smoothness to the Electro loving masses, AlunaGeorge continue to have a storming 2013, if they keep knocking out tunes as danceable, catchy and filled with passion as Attracting Flies who knows how big they could become?

[Audio] Viceroy reMixes Two Door Cinema Club

Two Door Cinema Club

Sun is the second single to be taken from Two Door Cinema Club’s new album Becon. Amongst those pulling reMix duties on the release is San Francisco Nu-Disco producer Viceroy. Fresh from the success of his Dream Of Bombay single with Chela, Viceroy is in the zone right now and this mix is no exception.

Delivering a more ElectroPop track than we’re used to from Viceroy, he still manages to inject the upbeat synthy tune with his trademark beach-party Disco. Bringing bright retro stabs to the mix, Viceroy give his reMix a slightly 80s vibe that mixes well with his feel-good Tropical groove. There’s nothing about this one that doesn’t make you feel good.

French ElectroPop outfit The Aikiu’s sweeping new single, Fools, was released this week. An involving SynthPop number with a Post-Punk twist.

Here’s the video, directed by Lisa Paclet. Don’t worry, it’s not nearly as spooky as the strobed owl at the beginning suggests.
