[MP3] Wolf Saga’s ‘Our Time’

Wolf Saga

Here’s Our Time, Canadian Chilly ElectroPopper Wolf Saga’s self-proclaimed summer anthem, and man is it summery! It;s probably Wolf Sags most upbeat tune to day, and not only is it full of sunshine goodness, but also sees the man picking up the mic alongside the keyboard. Sit back, relax, and enjoy.

Prepare for some blissful, laid back vibes with Our Time, as wolf Saga takes the first half of the track to ease you into some nothing-but-good-times SynthPop. Bouncy and quirky, the synths dance around the tune, playfully trailing their melodies when they do as the man himself gently croons summertime advice. About mid-way in the track the solo kicks in, and it’s such a soaring, epic, slice of synthesizer love that the tune takes on a whole new, cosmic, groove. This one’s for fun in the sun.

[MP3] Queen Of Hearts covers Chris Isaak’s ‘Wicked Game’

Queen Of Hearts

We’ve gotta’ admit, we do have a soft spot for Chris Isaak’s Wicked Game, but then, doesn’t everybody? It;s just one of those songs. So the idea of Isaak’s Californian croon being replaced by Queen Of Hearts’ husky voice is a pretty exciting one, made doubly so by the presence of electronic music legend Mark Reeder on production duties.

It strikes us as probably being quite a hard song to get right electronically, being all hazy acoustic guitar and stuff, but these guys pull it off with style. Reeder takes the best route and goes deep and subtle with the soundtrack, burbling synth bass and atmospheric tones phase in and out over a beat with a machine soul. But it’s Queen Of Hearts vocal here that is the real star, I don’t think there’s many vocalists who could have does this song as much justice as she does. Her smokey, passionate, lament is almost too perfect for this song. Chris who?

[MP3] Aimes’ ‘Keep On Movin’’

Aimes

Here’s the new one from Brooklyn synth head Aimes who, with Keep On Movin’, have taken on a new laid back House vibe to his music. We last heard from Aimes earlier in the year with his Beautiful Decay reMix EP that bounced off of last year’s original release. It looks like the producer wants to set us up for the summer with his new material.

Keep On Movin’ is a perfect slice of lazy electronica, the kind of tune you want soundtracking hazy summer days spent with friends. Sleek and soulful, it gives away Aimes’ Chillwave roots with waves of lush synths and warm tones that wash the track in a comfortable glow. Contrasting this is a solid House beat and a bassline with just a touch of Disco funk and a hint of Tropical dreaminess. We guarantee, this is one slice of sunshine bliss you won’t want to miss.

[MP3] Jordan F remixes Conics

Conics

Here’s the latest reMix from out good buddy Jordan F. Jordan has always been one of the leading lights of the SynthWave scene, adding an added musicality and attention to detail into the genre, but his recent efforts have seen him breaking out of the box, trying new things and folding a diverse range of influenced into his music. It’s exciting to listen to. This new one is a remix for Sydney based  Indie-Electro outfit Conics and the lead track of their new EP, due out this month.

Jordan takes a breezy approach to the tune here, a hazy summertime soundtrack that seems to wash you clean of all your troubles. A swirling mist of spacious synths and snatches of Tropical guitar with a foundation built on a subtle, but driving Italo bassline. This one is purely for poolside relaxing and sunset reflections. Jordan continues to be to one to keep an eye on. Enjoy.

[Audio] Freak You reMixes Dead Astronauts

Dead Astronauts

Kick off your week with the latest from On The Fruit Records head honcho Freak You. This month Franck turns his attention to Seattle based Modern SynthPop outfit Dead Astronauts’ track Weathered Wolves, to be released soon on Nueva Forma. The track comes from Dead Astronauts’ forthcoming album, Constellations, which is due for a summer release.

Having not heard the original of Weathered Wolves we can’t really comment on the differences, but we’re getting a classic SynthPop with Goth overtones from the track. The vocals and lyrical content have a very mid-90s German SynthiePop vibe to them, a vibe wich Freak You plays to, bringing in big, undulating, euphoric, EBM-lite synths and growling bass tones. Of course, a Freak You reMix is going to a a lot funkier than dated 90s FuturePop, and Franck deliver with a stunning, dramatic rhythm section, loaded with flourishes and evolutions. Also, there’s a little drum fill in the first bar of every bridge that make us really happy.

[Audio] ]Adeyhawke’s ‘Kodachrome Sundae’

Adeyhawke

We’re so glad that Irish synthetic Disco don Adeyhawke is back in the game. After his return to our radar in March with Storm Runner we’re pleases to see another new tune unleashed this week. The awesomely titled Kodachrome Sundae is part of his forthcoming EP release on Girlfriend Records alongside the previously heard Storm Runner and Looker.

I think Kodachrome Sundae is our favourite of Adeyhawke’s new track so far. A complex and funky synthesizer workout that is just as compelling for your ears as it is for your feet. Interlocking layers of punchy retro synths all slot in together to make the whole arrangement work, each tiny element having an important place in the whole. This really is a track greater than the sum of it’s parts, a nostalgic sounding, electronic Disco symphony that sees  Adeyhawke skilfully conducting an orchestra of digital goodness. The bassline alone is enough to make you jump out of your seat. Check it out.

[Audio] Icona Pop’s new single

icona-pop

Swedish mega-duo Icona Pop have unleashed their forthcoming new single on the world, or possibly new single. The girls claim it’s a ‘taste of what’s to come’, but it sure sounds like single material. We say that because it’s probably the most accessible thing these two have done to date, not that their previous offerings weren’t accessible, but this is pure summer Pop.

Borrowing the chorus from 2Pac’s Me & My Girlfriend, Girlfriend starts off in a typically Indie-Electro vein, before launching into unadulterated, big and bolshie, power Pop. The unrelentingly energetic vocals, ring out like a call to action over some of the slickest produced chainsaw synths this side of 2009. This is going to be on the radio. A lot. I’d learn to deal with it if I were you.
