Nude Disco & Paul Harris reMix Toby Tobias

Toby Tobias’ The Feeling, slow groove Disco club smash for a few years back, has been given a fresh new makeover from Nude Disco and Paul Harris. Both these guys have a long history in dance music so handing them something like Kathy Diamond’s smooth vocal on this tune is bound to produce something sweet.

Fast forwarding the track four years the duo give this tune a shiny Disco-House makeover. Keeping a lot of the Disco groove of the original, Vern & Harris drop a kicking new House beat and layers upon layers of sharp synth work. The soulful vocal takes on a new energy coupled with this new backing, which when added to the intricate synths, makes for a track you could get lost in on the dancefloor. We love these guys reMixes.

Avec Sans’ follow up single

Enigmatic London ElectroPop duo Avec Sans are back with a new tune. We’ve been eager for more since they dropped their first original tune, Heartbreak Hi, we’ve had our fingers crossed for these guys that it wasn’t a one-off, or a fluke. Those fears have just been assuaged.

The Answer is Avec Sans new tune, and with it came a press release that finally gives us in insight into who these two are. Alice Fox and Jack St James. A Trinidadian international man of mystery and a Mancunian ex-badass, both of whom have done the rounds, and paid their dues, in various bands and musical projects, make up Avec Sans and the background in gigging bands shines though in The Answer. If you said to me that this was a track created by a guy who has experimented with many different forms of electronic music and a vocalist who cut her teeth on the Indie band circuit, I would say that’s exactly what it is. Intricately crafted dance music with a passionate, live, vocal. It’s an anthemic slice of ElectroPop with a real rush of energy for the chorus. The single is flipped with a reMix from Bill Posters and Will Power, why more and more electronic artists feel the need to get uninspired lowest-common-denominator dance music reMixes done I’ll never understand. the reMix is good at what it does, I suppose, but what it does is a bit blah and by-the-numbers. Skipping to the end; Heartbreak Hi definitely wasn’t a fluke, and Avec Sans are definitely amazing..

Ogre’s ‘194’

Sometimes, just sometimes, we get an email that takes us completely by surprise. Someone come from out of the blue with a release that makes us wonder why we haven’t been following this artist for years. We’ve just had one of those emails. It came from Exeter based producer Ogre (no relation to Skinny Puppy’s Ogre) and after a little flattery he dropped his latest release, 194, on us. We were pretty blown away.

You may be familiar with some of Robin Ogden’s previous work, specifically his reMix of Robortom and Au Reviour Simone’s Paganini Rocks under the moniker Monster! Monster!. In-case you were wondering, Ogre is nothing like that. What Ogre is, is the soundtrack to the dark middle instalment of a movie trilogy, a soundtrack to the inevitable robot uprising and a pounding electronic accompaniment to your very survival. Ogre’s 194 walks the line between retro, 80s soundtrack influenced, SynthWave or Outrun Electro and distorted Elektro Industrial. The opening salvo, Gongola, exemplifies this and wraps it up in a jackhammer dance beat, before the album finds it’s footing as a collection of atmospheric synthetic moods. 2019 feels like the set up of the album proper with traditional soundtrack elements like string and horn sections, playing against frantic arpeggio and marching drums. Imaginary soundtrack albums such as this need a musical narrative, and 2019 is where this one starts. By the time Cold Protocol, reminiscent of Daft Punk’s Tron soundtrack meeting Tengerine Dream and the dark tones of Street Legal have passed you get the idea that this narrative isn’t an easy one. Our heroes, if there are any, are in for a rough time. Of course, with titles like 2019 and V.K., you know that a fair amount of Ogre’s influence for 194 comes from BladeRunner, and Vangelis’ legendary soundtrack, but whilst there are moments during the album when that is very apparent. The similar sounds and tones to Vangelis’ soundtrack never feel copycat, more homage. If anything, much of 194 sounds like the Blade Runner soundtrack’s evil twin. The soundtrack to a BaldeRunner sequel when LA is invaded by a replicant army maybe? Some of the highlights of the albums whopping 18 tracks include the soaring synths of Sniper One, the futuristic Italo of Stairwell and the film, sorry, album’s End Titles, which actually work as the perfect closer to the whole story. Orge had done, with 194, what many try to achieve, but few actually pull off this well. A self contained audio story, one which feels natural when listened to in it’s entirety, and when it’s finished it does feel like there is a satisfying conclusion to this musical tale. So do yourself a favour, pick up 194 and set aside 40 minutes to experience the whole journey.

Masters Of The Radio’s ‘Wings’

It’s been a while since we heard from Cheshire based SynthPop project Masters Of The Radio. Just over a year ago they released their début EP The Pleasure Age which we featured right here. Now Masters Of The Radio is are back with a brand new single, to be released later this month.

Wings is business as usual for this emotional synth outfit, with a memorable chorus. They’ve still got the Japan-esque vocals and the moody electronics in their corner resulting in an authentically British 80s Pop tune with a majestic chorus. Loaded with lush strings and chilly synth burbles Wings is a pretty irresistible lice of SynthPop.

French Horn Rebellion Vs. Database reMixed by MNDR’s Pete Wade

Well, this is a nice mid-week surprise. One of our favourite tracks of the moment French Horn Rebellion Vs. Database’s Poster Girl as reMixed by one half of one of our favourite bands full-stop, MNDR. MNDR’s Pete Wade gives the track a little House sheen and a deep dancefloor vibe.

Wade’s reMix of Poster Girl is a nice mix between the original’s Disco flare and MNDR’s more ecclectic, and electronic, SynthPop sounds. An array of orchestral stabs, Disco samples and a deep square bassline dominate the track and it;s solid as hell. This track should pretty much be a staple in peoples record crates, a timeless dance track that guaranteed to do the job.Wade turned out to be funkier than his MNDR productions were letting on.

IYES

So, let us introduce you to IYES. IYES are a Brighton based Indie-Electro outfit who have a line up of songs prepare that we expect you will be hearing a lot more from in the coming months. These guys have a sound that is sure to see them generating a load of hype from here on in.

Today, though, we can exclusively revel one track from their forthcoming EP. It’s called Daddy and it’s the one instrumental track in the collection but perfectly captures IYES mood. Their sound is kinda’ post-Chillwave with a slightly more British take on the electronics. Daddy is a hypnotic, undulating track that balances Dubby electronics with a dance beat and reverb washed Chillwave guitar. A hazy track that comes across like the musical equivalent of a daydream. Warm and summery but with an air of mystery. We’ve also included the demo version of their track Lighthouse here, it’s probably the most guitary track on the EP but gives you a good idea of where IYES are, vocal wise, there’s a real passion to the dual male/female vocal performance. For now, you’ll have to take our word for it that there is some stunning vocal ElectroPop on the EP, hopefully we’ll be able to share some with you soon.

Freak You reMixes Tatana

Here’s the latest output from On The Fruit main man Freak You. Premièring yesterday on Discobelle this is the Freak’s take in Swiss Trance artist Tatana’s, Ingrid Lukas featuring, No Lie. It sounds like it gave Franck a chance to really get his teeth into some classic dance sounds.

This one is all about the hypnotic bassline. That big of euphoric business is probably the reason the likes of Grum, MiGHty mOUse, Pat Lok, and Cosmonauts are already spinning the tune, it’s a dancefloor rocker. No one to stick to one genre or other, Franck mixing is a little Tropical flavour and some classic 90s House grooves to deliver a pretty timeless Dance track. Quite moody, quite ethereal, but quite optimistic and majestic too, this is another Freak You success.

Embryonik reMixes Evanton

Time to roll out the lino and turn the boombox up to 11. Electro wizard Embryonik is back with a brand new reMix. This time he’s tackling the title track of the new EP from Evanton. Evanton is a Greek Italo duo featuring Binalog head honcho Evangelos Zacharopoulos who are creating some awesome retro Electro sounds.

The original version of the track is like a musical Terminator, A relentless machine march of vintage beats and Moroder Disco basslines. Embryonik mixes things up a little, bringing to robot drive of the track into fresh melodic places. Equal parts Kraftwerk and Afrika Bambaataa, the track has got that combination of B-Boy beats and chilly European soundscapes that first formed the Electro sound. It’s got a killer riff too. Whether with the juggernaut Electro beats or the breezy synth melodies, Embryonik hit just the right note here. Another quality tune from the man.

MiGHty mOUse reMixes Madonna

We’ve been waiting for this one ever since MiGHty mOUse hinted about it on Twitter last week. The man has turned his not inconsiderable talent to reworking Madonna’s 1984 classic Like A Virgin. Remix Madonna’s 80s output tends to be a bit hit or miss, but we’ve had high hopes for MM’s take on the track, and we haven’t been disappointed.

What we are treated to is an upbeat slice of cosmic House. MiGHty mOUse works this staccato electric piano riff throughout the track that really is the tunes core. Playing off the bassline, this hook brings a total party vibe, with a hint of 90s nostalgia, and seems to work perfectly with Madge’s vocals. the track itself follows MiGHty mOUse’s evolution from spacey Disco into something a bit more Housey and complex, there’s a blissed out synth bridge about two thirds along that you could get lost in. Drop this on unexciting revellers and watch it tear up the dancefloor. I think I’ve found a replacement for MiGHty mOUse’s Kate Bush reMix!
