Goin’ Old School (with Kid Machine!): Diana Est – Tenax

This week we are tuning over the Goin’ Old School reins to Manchester’s Italo/SynthWave guru Kid Machine:

Diana Est – Tenax from 1982 “This is a recent discovery through Magic Waves radio show. I love the naivety of Italo, the cover designs, labels and illustrations, and the whole sound and lighting. I like the fact she’s singing in Italian. Most of them sing in English with the charming Italian pronounced vocals…but this is special. The early 80’s; a prolific, inspirational era. Now, where’s my time machine?

Ursa Minor (Little Bear)’s ‘Only You’ cover

ursa-minor-little-bear

Here’s another new tune from London DancePop collective Ursa Minor (Little Bear).

This time it’s a cover, of an absolute Vince Clarke classic, Yazoo’s ‘Only You’, and frankly, it’s beautiful. With an undercurrent of experimentalism with icy sounds, industrial percussion and pronounced vocal effects the track veers into dreamlike electronic soundscape territory but it’s help in place by Little Bear flawless vocal rendition.

Now the Portuguese producer is back with an original track, ‘Get A grip’ and it shows that, unlike many of his peers, he doesn’t need stems to fall back on, this guy has the chops. Perfect summer night vibes emanate from every inch of this tune from the slick running bass, snatched samples and big retro chords. Waek reMix Fancy

fancy

French Touch producer Waek has turned in an awesome, synth sliding, reMix of Fellow french Rock act Fancy’s ‘All Night Long’.

If you recognise Fancy’s singer Jessie Chaton’s voice, but can quite place it, imagine it singing “The way you move is a mystery” then Google “Fancy – D.A.N.C.E. (Do The F.A.N.C.Y.)”. Waek version of ‘All Night Long’ underpins that voice, which is burned into every Electro fans brain, with a nice combination smooth retro synths and twisted Electro Funk bass, There’s some amazing playing in this mix.
