A couple of new Mille tracks

Things have been a little quite from Mille since his rash of amazing reMixes and the ‘Crysteena’ single late last year.

But fear not, the Swedish Nu-Disco genius has been hard at work and recently uploaded to new tracks to his SoundCloud.

‘Afterski’ is pure brilliance, the kind of thing you’d expect from Mille. Slick as anything you’ve heard, retro synth inspired, dancefloor ElectroPop. Soaring electronic lead lines and electro toms fly all over the track. It’s uplifting as hell. ‘Warchief’ is a tiny bit darker and a bit more pumping. If ‘Afterski’ is the soundtrack to an 80’s prom, then this is the soundtrack to a gang fight. Not a gang fight you’d get these days, a bandannas, studded gloves and dance moves gang fight!

We can’t wait for news of a new Mille release!

Parallels’ ‘Dry Blood’ video

Toronto’s Parallels are a big favourite round our way. The perfect blend of ElectroPop and 80’s synthesizer Disco who sound every bit as classic as the do fresh.

Anyway, here’s the new video for their forthcoming single ‘Dry Blood’, the storming third track on their début album ‘Visionaries’.

Not the video in my mind when I hear the track, but a video that works strangely well nonetheless.

‘Visionaries’ is put now. go check it out.

Taken from their début long player ‘Illumination’, ‘Holidays’ has been perfectly matched with this summery Californian video directed by the team of Krozm (A.K.A.Chris Hill and Lachlan Dickie).

Get’s kinda’ weird though…

‘Illumination’ is out now.

Penguin Prison: ‘Golden Train’ reMixes

Penguin Prison’s new single ‘Golden Train’ is less than a month from release. I used to call PP Bedroom Pop, I’m not sure if I still can, his sound had defiantly got bigger and the new single is the best example of this so far.

Some awesome reMixes grace the single too. Sam Sparro delivers what i consider to be the best, it’s a Disco Pop workout that got an infectious groove that’s just a suited to the dancefloor as the radio. UK outfit Boxed In turn in a broken Techno/Disco mix with added Jazz piano!

‘Golden Train’ is shaping up to be an excellent single package!

Crystal Castles Featuring Robert Smith

We heard from a few sources earlier in the week that ElectroPunks Crystal Castles were releasing, as a future single, a version of ‘Not In Love’, from their second self-titled album, that would feature the vocals of The Cure frontman Robert Smith.

Well here it is! It’s actually a lot better than I thought it would be, somehow it just works. Robert Smith’s unmistakable voice sits atop Crystal Castles’ noisy electronics surprisingly well. It may have been one of CC’s poppier songs to begin with but I wasn’t expecting the collaboration to sound so ‘right’.

Crystal Castles (Feat. Robert Smith) – Not In Love

Also, Crystal Castes sound odd with legible vocals!

‘Not In Love’ will be Crystal Castles’ next single, after ‘Baptism’, on 6th December.

Daft Punk – Tron music video

Well, part music video, part promo reel, part Tron Legacy trailer set to Daft Punk’s soundtrack piece ‘Derezzed’.

What we’ve heard of the soundtrack so far sounds amazing and this video, not only features loads of new footage from the movie, but also give us our first on-screen glimpse of Guy and Thomas in their roles as ‘mp3 files’ (read DJs) in the movie.

I love the way the soundtrack had lots of contemporary action movie signatures, but weaving in and out of them are phrases of analog synths or distorted drums, seems like a perfect blend of score and electronics.

Tron: Legacy hit cinemas 17th December. Both the movie and Daft Punk’s soundtrack are so highly anticipated here it’s not even funny. December can’t come soon enough!

Violet Tremors

Violet Tremors remind me a LOT of early/mid period Cabaret Voltaire, except that they are two girls and (no offence to Richard or Steve) are infinitely more glamorous!

Musically though, there is a lot of Cabs to be heard in Jessica and Lorene’s Minimal Synth refrains. The likes of The Normal and Portion Control are probably an influence too. This is music for those of us who remember a time before SynthPop went to the disco. Where we are, here, SynthPop isn’t in a happy place.

The Los Angeles duo utilise old drum machines, analog synths and effected vocals to create a sparse and cold, yet strangely full of emotion, soundscape that should defiantly appeal to lovers of either the current Minimal Synth scene or the early Futurist experimentations.

Dark and Dangerous, this is music for the places you don’t want to be, but can’t help going.

Hyboid

Kicking off today we have some hypnotic cosmic Disco from German producer Hyboid.

The track ‘Vogon Poetry’ comes from the EP ‘Chicken Accelerator’, an Astro Chicken label sampler and is six minutes of pure Sci-Fi synthesizer rock-out. Like a soundtrack to an 80’s space opera that was never released this track is all about blue-screened spaceships and silver jumpsuits powered by urgent arpeggios and otherworldly analog lead lines.

As you can probably tell from the title, Hyboid is a HitchHikers’ fan and has spliced up this video for ‘Vogon Poetry’ from the amazing BBC serial. It works really, really, well!

Hyboid – Vogon Poetry

Hyboid is planning to release his début album ‘Aliens Ate My Synthesizer’ on vinyl in December.,
