Røyksopp grow old

Røyksopp are gearing up to release the flip side of last years utterly amazing ‘Junior’ album.

‘Junior’ not only made our top 20 albums but also had an inclusion in our top 20 songs of 2009 so if the duo are busting out the synths once more that cam only be good news!

Slated to be more instrumental, more freeform (maybe akin to their earlier works) than ‘Junior’, the new album, titles ‘Senior’ was conceived with each individual track being just one part of the whole.

In Røyksopp’s own words: “The two albums (‘Junior’ and ‘Senior’) have a kinship, in that they represent Røyksopp’s two very different artistic expressions. ‘Junior’ – with emphasis on vocals, accessible melodies and harmonies, has the energy, the inquisitive temper and confident “hey-ho, let’s go!”-attitude of youth, whereas ‘Senior’ is the introverted, dwelling and sometimes graceful counterpart – brimful with dark secrets and distorted memories, insisting “I’m old, I’ve got experience…”.  Senior’ is furthermore an album about age, horses and being subdued – with devils breathing down your neck.”

Check the amusing trailer, there is nothing like a fake beard!

‘Senior’ is expected to drop 13th September

Robots With Rayguns

Robots With Rayguns is Lucas Patrick Smith, a 80’s influenced dancey ElectroPop producer who has gained quite a few blog inches for himself in recent months with his awesome reMixes of Lady GaGa, Chromeo and NightWaves.

His latest output is ‘Sugarbaby’, an storming piece of retro Electro, skilfully straddling the line between ElectroPop and Nu-Disco, it’s like a poppier Grum (if you can imagine that!). TSTR provide a high octane Dreamwave mix that rocks it’s way through numerous 80’s musical references.

Murder Mystery

You may remember Murder Mystery from last years blog-around ‘Love Astronaut’, they are a New York based Indie Pop act who make heavy use of synthesisers in their decidedly summery tunes.

Rubbing shoulders with their lush, reverb washed, electronics are bright, sparkling guitars and danceable drums to create an intimate, almost Lo-Fi sound.

The band are giving away these two track to let the world know what they’ve been up to sing releasing their critically acclaimed début album last year. ‘I Am (If You Are)’ in particular, being more electronic, brings to mind a more Indie Freezepop or Venus Hum. This is music that doesn’t charge up to you and get in your face, it simply saunters up and introduces itself with a handshake, maybe offers you a drink, and on a hot day like this it’s just the ticket.

Housse De Racket; it’s that ‘Oh Yeah!’ time again!

Parisian Electro-House/Indie-Electro act Housse De Racket are releasing yet another reMix package for their much hammered, much reMixed party anthem ‘Oh Yeah!’.

The package is seriously top quality, here are just three examples of what to expect. Hidden Cat turn in a brilliant space Disco mix that keeps the killer riff but layers it will analog noodling. Jensen Sportag brings us quite an eclectic summer chiller but the highlight so far has to be Walter Sobcek’s slick retro Pop mix which is, one one word, epic!

VeemanJanssen

You may remember a while back we featured the solo efforts of Le Le’s Rimeroni Vumani as Rimer London, well now the guy’s back and about to drop and EP for Instant Reply with his new project, VeemanJanssen.

With his recording partner, designer Janssen A.K.A. Parra, their deep love for all things Disco and Italo shine through in this smooth as silk summer jam. I’m just sitting here at the keyboard, sun shining through the window, loving the deep analog bassline in this track, I have a feeling this is gonna’ be on repeat most of the afternoon!

VeemanJanssen – Put The Freeze On

The EP is released 16th July, keep an eye on Instant Replay for news.

Monarchy news, in video form

Last Saturday London’s awesome stargazing SynthPop act Monarchy, usually men shrouded in mystery, made a rare, and their début, live appearance.

And where was this gig? You might ask. Well, fittingly for the band it pretty much took place in space. Performed at the NASA Planetarium at Cape Canaveral, Florida in from of 20 witnesses the show gained the band the honour of being the first band to broadcast live into space!

Check the trailer below, it looks like it would have been quite an experience to attend. Monarchy are promising more video soon.

At least if there is life out there we’ve got our musical ambassadorship covered.

Also just premiered is the video for their forthcoming new single ‘Love Get Out Of My Way’ spanning a cosmic Disco fantasyland. Lots of space-ballet, a space-unicorn, a space-pillar and possibly a space-love story, can’t quite tell. Looks nice though!

‘Love Get Out Of My Way’ drops very soon with reMixes from Holy Ghost!, Sinden, and Treasure Fingers amongst others.

Painted Face

Painted Face is the superhero identity of DC based singer/songwriter Allie Alvarado.

Veteran of the Brooklyn Art-Rock scene, having been part of Telepathe and Blood Lines, her current output comes of a collaboration with producer Alvin Risk and is a captivating combination of intricate electronic music and soulful vocals. The music seems to effortlessly capture that elusive sweet spot that mixes the nuanced and emotive with the danceable without loosing any of either.

The moment the beat kicks-in on ‘Undreamt’ it has already hooked you to the groove, but beyond that it’s the layers upon layers of sound and Allie’s voice (with something fresh and raw about it) that seem to reach into every part of you. It’s gonna’ get more exposure, I guarantee it, and it’s one of those tracks that’s going to give you goosebumps when the DJ drops it.

Check out Painted Face’s SoundCloud for more music and show Allie much MySpace love!:

Overthrill

Overthrill probably isn’t a new name to many readers of electronic rumors. Having dropped some awesome EPs (and killer Mixtapes) in the last couple of years, German producer Sebastian Bentler joins the dots between the Valerie crew’s melodic, smooth Dreamwave sound and the Ed Banger posse’s Noisy French Electro.

And the point in the middle of those dots is pretty epic!

One a duo, now solo, Sebastian is pretty prolific when it comes to releases, with four EPs and a handful of singles under his belt in the last few years (Sebastian handles all the artwork too) and more in the pipeline Overthrill have somehow managed to consistently knock out banger after banger. Pleasing both the blogs and the clubs.

Overthrill’s most recent EP, ‘The Upper Worlds’ is a prime example of their head on collision between Disco and Distorted Electro, funky and in-your-face at the same time.

Overthrill (Feat. Miss Wonder) – The Upper Worlds

His recent track takes the same road with hard Electro beats and sweet Disco vocal snatches

Overthrill – Rockson

This is how bangers should be made!
